On this day in 2001 {May 12th} Perry Como, aka Pierino Ronald Como, passed away at the age of 88...
Between 1943 and 1974 he charted 145 times; his first hit was "Goodbye, Sue", it reached #20 on the charts in 1943...
His last charted record was "Christmas Dream" in 1974, it peaked at #92...
He had seven #1 records; his biggest hit was in 1945, "Till The End of Time", and on September 15th, 1945 it reached #1 for a nine week stay...
    May he R.I.P.

This is how a great singer delivers a song. Even though he may have performed this song hundreds of times previously, he looks like he is thinking of the words to say to his love as he sings it here.

What a voice, i'm a guy born in mid 90's but music and songs like this and more from the past makes me and gets me emotional. That voice of Perry Como himself makes me want to fall in love, i feel like i was in a movie theater and watching a classic and vintage love story movies.

    Till the end of time
long as stars are in the blue
long as there's a spring of birds to sing
    i'll go on loving you.
    Till the end of time,
long as roses bloom in May,
my love for you will grow deeper
    with every passing day.
    Till the wells run dry,
    and each mountain disappears,
i'll be there for you to care for you
    through laughter and through tears.
So take my heart in sweet surrender
    and tenderly say that I'm
the one you'll love and live for
    till the end of time.

I actually feel sorry for the younger generations today. Most, if not all of them never heard of Perry Como. They don't know what true talent or music is. They listen to "singers" today that have what I call a prison voice. Behind a few bars and short a key. They depend on theatrics and computers to enhance their voice. What came out of Perry Como's voice is what you heard. True talent. Miss singers like him and so many others from the past.

    • @peterwilliams2822
      @peterwilliams2822 7 років тому +4

Yes what passes for "music" these days & for a while now is the "singers" trying to out yell the instruments and the instruments attempting to drown out the lyrics. Unfortunately for real music lovers...........neither one is successful!

With all due respect, music is relative. I bet older people in the 50s and 60s had the same critique of emerging pop music back then. People who were raised with vaudeville music, hillbilly, or ragtime might not have liked emerging pop, especially since pop helped replace instruments with singing as the focus of music.
AND so the cycle continues as people my generation get older, so shall we critique the coming evolution of music and new genres. I hope that doesn't happen to me as I've learned to appreciate music through time.

This brings tears to my eyes. I was born the year Perry sang this song that made him a major star. Then later he starred on his own TV show that originally was only 15 minutes. Yes, there were a few 15 minute shows in the very early days of tv. Then in no time he was on for a full hour. He was part of my childhood. A true bright shining star with a wealth of character and talent. I still love him and I am 78 now.

I collect vinyl...im 37 years old, but really don't care for today's music...i just find it ignorant and degrading to women...there's no soul or passion in it. My 7 year old daughter loves Perry Como and Louis Armstrong ♡♥. She goes vinyl digging with me at the thrift store, and has a decent sized collection of her own vinyl. It melts my heart. She couldn't tell you who Britney Spears or Taylor Swift is, but she bawled her eyes out, when i told her Aretha Franklin died ♡ Tom Waits is our favorite musician, and i absolutely love sitting with her, in front of the fireplace, with Perry Como spinning on the turntable. U gotta teach them young. Merry Christmas, everyone !!

Perry gave us the smoking gun on Obama during his Chesterfield sponsored show:He used to sing "Fifty,Nifty,United States" on a regular basis after Hawaii was admitted to the Union. If Obama really were from Hawaii,he would have known that the USA still has only 50 states, not 57 as he claimed in 2008.
