    Warm up the engine first then soak the plugs in WD40 for 10 mins then remove them, tighten to correct torque (they are over tightened on this video) replace all four at same time even if only one is faulty.

      Thanks glad you enjoyed the video. From what I know it's a bit harder to know exactly which one is at fault unless your engine is misfiring then it would be easier to identify which one is causing you problems.
      Most of the time all of them go bad roughly around the same time, so if you have any symptoms of your glow plugs being bad you should replace all of them at the same time not just 1 of them.
      You could also take them out of the car and physically check them to see what one is in very bad condition maybe 1 of them would look a lot worse than the others then you'd know to keep an eye on that one.
      It was a while back but I think I only paid £15 for all 4 of my glow plugs, I bought them on Ebay brand new, from what I saw they were not very expensive.

    Do you think worth changing if no glow plug light has popped up?

    • @RCS_716

      I would say if you haven't changed them in a very, very long time or if you drive alot of miles each year and haven't changed them in a long time then it would be good to do so.
      If you notice any of these symptoms its also I good idea to change them.
      Hard starting. A hard starting engine is the most common indicator of damaged glow plugs. ...
      Engine misfiring. ...
      Rough idling. ...
      Decreased fuel efficiency. ...
      White smoke. ...
      Black smoke.
      At the end of the day if you do change them you at least have that piece of mind that everything should be ok for a while. Hope this helped 👍

    Just a question.. i have a polo tdi 1.2. Few months ago it used to rough idle. I poured fuel system cleaner and the rough idle/misfire was fixed.. But then After few weeks it came back. I us3d the cleaner again it got fixed again but now it just came back again. Do you think its the glow plug, the fuel filter or fuel injector?

    • @RCS_716
      @RCS_716  Рік тому

      I'm not too sure which it could be as it could be any of them, mine has a rough idle aswell but when I turn the A/C on it stops then when i turn it off it starts the rough idle again. It's weird lol ( I'll have to look more into it )
      As I'm not too sure the best advice i can give would be to go the trial and error route and try all the options until it works, or you could bring it to a mechanic and see if they can diagnose the problem. The only downside is that both methods might be a bit pricey though.

      I'm not too familiar with golf's as I dont have one but I tried to do a little research into it and from what I found I believe on some golfs there is 1 or 2 cylinders that the glow plug is different because they have pressure sensors on them ( this makes them cost considerably more than your normal glow plug )

    • @RCS_716
      @RCS_716  3 роки тому

      I've looked online and found a few reasons why your glow plugs could have failed, I'll share them below.
      You have the wrong glow plugs for your engine
      Your engine excessively overheats
      Your engine operates at voltages that are too high
      Your power supply is too long (often due to a stuck relay)
      Your pistons are damaged
      Your valves are broken
      You have a seized piston ring
      The injectors have dripped onto the glow plugs and eroded them.
      Another common cause of damaged glow plugs is high-amperage battery chargers, which are used to improve engine starting. These chargers can provide a voltage high enough to explode the glow plug tips.
      Also I'll link this website that I was also on that provides pictures of different glow plugs and there conditions and the causes for the different glow plugs. www.roughtrax4x4.com/blog/common-glow-plug-failure-causes/
      Not sure if this is what you were asking for but I hope it helps 👍

    does the warning light go off on its own after changing the glow plugs or would you have turn it off yourself? thanks

    • @RCS_716
      @RCS_716  3 роки тому +1

      I haven't got a straight forward answer for you sorry.
      When I changed my glow plugs I thought they were the problem because the glow plug light was on, on my dash. ( I replaced them and the light was still on )
      I then used a scanning tool to scan for the problem and turned out the reason why the glow plug light was on was because of my dpf filter.
      I then did some more research and it turns out that there are many problems that can cause your glow plug light to illuminate on your dash ( and the glow plugs wont even be what's wrong )
      But if your glow plugs are the problem ( I can only make a guess here, so don't take my word for it ) then the light will probably go away once you change them, it it stays on then it might disappear after 5 or 10 mins.
      If you do change the glow plugs and the light is still on your dash then you've got something else wrong with your car.
      If you've got a scanning tool or anything like that I would use that first just to see what code it gives you so that you know exactly what the problem is.
      Sorry that this probably isn't the answer you were looking for but I hope it at least helps a bit 👍

To fix the problem I had to take it to halfords and get them to clean the dpf filter for me, cost £85 which was much cheaper than everywhere else I looked. The car has been perfect ever since.

    • @RCS_716
      @RCS_716  3 роки тому +1

      It isn't mandatory but it is highly recommended. Chances are if one is bad the rest are probably also bad or very close to being bad.
      ( its unlikely but ) Sometimes with things like these the car can act a bit weird if they are not all the same, so if your going to change them I'd recommend that you change them all at the same time.

    Hello brother, myself from India , mine is a diesel vw polo 1.2 tdi driven for 1lac18k kilometres From December 2011 to Aug 2021 till date , should I also change my car's glow plugs ? As there is no warning light till date ⚠️, but my car starts after very long cranking , especially when outside temperature 🌡️ is below 30degree celsius , when outside temperature is 34 to 35 it starts off easily , I was thinking maybe my battery (60ah) was bad as it was fitted 5 year ago since October 2016. So confused wat the symptoms are ? As the battery guy checked the acid gravity and voltage output both the values were fine , but he didn't have equipment and know how , to check (CCA) cold cranking amps , can't really make out when I turns the key to start and crank several times all the dash meter lights go off and then we have to push the car with someone's help and then crank to start

      @johndavison5989 You are mixing up Glow Plugs with Injectors. Glow plugs do not have copper washers and the torque is 14nm. They do not build up anything like as much dirt around them as an injector does but it is always a good idea to give them a blast around with compressed air to remove any dust or particles they may be present prior to removing the glow plugs.
