This is very emotional, each time i listen😢 . I’m from another country but i guess this song is showing the real spirit of real people of the country .
This performance is the most heartbreaking of all those I've seen. The assassinations were still fresh in our minds and hearts when Moms Madley sang this and clearly she was feeling it deeply. It didn't just bring tears to my eyes, it made them roll down my cheeks.
Absolutely, this interpretation is special. Even though Moms singing quality isn't anything to write home about, but it's the emotional quality that hits home. It's genuine and it's sincere. It comes from the heart. I give her my upmost respect. 1968 was a terrible time. And hearing this performance, I too had tears rolling down my face.
Visiting to hear this amazing version that brings me to tears each time I hear it. It's November 13th, 2024 and I'm still numb from the election that will change our course on the world's stage. Bobby would have been horrified had he seen what his son stood for these days. More tears because good did not win out over hate this time around. Peace, y'all. 💔✌
I got something in my eyes now...😿 I lived through those days (except for Lincoln of course) but her face expresses all the sorrow we felt. God bless her soul. 😔🌹
In 2022 I'm 36 years old but I remember our past and this song brought me to tears I've seen so many videos on those assassinated and I feel like I was there even though it's before my time. Moms Mabley truly a legend in her own right.
Ive loved this song from the first time my 4th grade teacher told usc1 day to close our eyes, put our heads down on our desks and told us to just listen to the words. I must've been 9 or 10. Thank you mrs. Desmond! This version for some reason makes me think of all the ppl I've lost.
Kudos to your teacher to let this song wash over you while you listened intently on the words. Everyone should experience such an exercise. We need this vibe more than ever before. (Oh, and RFK, Jr....you no longer represent anything Kennedy. You've been exiled from the family--good riddance, you fool!!)
Moms was a comedian. I saw her sing this live on TV when I was 17. Loving then and now is hard to explain but her performance from head to toe is raw and pure. I remember a common feeling was we have to fight! But what next … as the Vietnam war deepened.
As a black, female and lesbian, she brilliantly celebrates the lives of those who strived to improve the world. Change comes slowly and those who came after Moms Mabley stand to benefit from the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to legalizing gay marriage. Moms was ahead of her time. In 2024 with democracy on the line, we need Moms and perhaps Kamala Harris might carry on the fight that Moms believed in. Freedom isn't free. Abraham, Martin, John and Bobby paid the ultimate price to make America a better place to live in.
That took real chutzpah for her as a performer. She was known exclusively for pretty broad comedy so to step in front of an audience with a completely serious performance out of her comfort zone had to be a challenge.
i have never heard her sing this version!! wonderfully done with so much emotion. 11.21.2021 thanks for posting for us to hear. betty gordon, ames, iowa
I'll never forget the first time I saw this performance. I can't think of a more powerful representation of the lament shared among the black community, civil rights supporters, and just about anyone that has a soul in the wake of the assassinations. If this doesn't move you, you need to check your pulse.
🎼🎶💕 Does anyone remember the Momms Mabley’s 1970s Good Ship Lollipop version??? 🍭🎶 I heard Momms Mabley’s Jazzy&crazy version of the Shirley Temple-Black 1940s classic song on 89.7FM Jazz in Maryland years ago & been surfin' through UA-cam Music lookin’ for Mommozita’s crazy version. 🎼🎶🍭💕,....oh well,..Many Blessings To Ev’rryone!!!!

Remember all from John to Bobby, sobbing when she says my little Bobby.😭
I have heard many versions of this beautiful ballad but Mom's is my favorite. I can't watch this without crying.
This was in the Top 40. She held the record as the oldest person to have a top 40 hit for several years.. 😅❤❤
Dam. Grandma just made me cry. As she should.
me too!
Others have sung this song, but this is the best version because it's the most heartfelt
This is very emotional, each time i listen😢 . I’m from another country but i guess this song is showing the real spirit of real people of the country .
This lady sure knew how to reach and touch people, no matter if it was through comedy or something serious like this.
I just found out about this version. Ive always loved Jackie " Moms" Mabley- she seemed like an auntie or one of my mom's friends from church.😪😪😪
I don't cry easily, but this had me sobbing. Her heart was in every word and note.
Still hurts to this day.
She was awesome!! This song brings me to tears!❤
She sang with the Heart of America. True, Genuine and Sad. Hats Off Mom.
a great song

You're preaching to the choir, sister!
It makes me cry every time. The thing is, besides being heart-rendering, it is so well done. She has a great sense of timing to get effect
I meant heart-rending instead. Whatever, to wrap yourself in the emotion

Awwwwww........I remember Moms Mabley when I was a little kid. I knew that she was a comedienne, but I never knew that she was a singer.
This performance made me sob. She so poignantly expressed the country’s emotion. I love this performance and love Moms Mabley for it.
Without artiface. A pure performance that allows the viewer their own emotion. Perfection.
Just heartbreaking just like all those tragedies .......So beautiful...
Got chills. Thanks Moms.
What would this country and world have been like if those 4 men had lived long lives.
Three men, not four. Abraham Lincoln, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and Martin Luther King. Each was assassinated. The last two when I was a teen.
While not in the title, the song is also about losing Bobby Kennedy as mentioned in a verse.@@conniead5206
@@conniead5206...no 4...the 4th one is Bobby Kennedy...JFK brother was shot in 1968
❤ what a world it would’ve been
Stuck in reverence. What a story. Slainte ❤️
I choked up at little bobby

Si yo también siempre pensé lo mismo, yes I always had the same reaction, even though I was born in 1987
Lived thru John's, Martin & Bobby's assasinations. We were heartbroken!😢
Certainly the most beautiful version of this song.

What do you mean old school movement?
Written by Dion
@@kevindean6600dick Holler wrote the song and Dion was the first to record it.
This totally caught me unaware.. yes, tears are streaming down my face too😢
It takes a comedian to touch the soul!!!
Oh. I am going to cry.
With all due to respect to Dion, thus is just incredible! Bravo, Moms, Bravo!
She was so funny and this song is incredibly moving.
She put her heart soul and everything into that song. It was a n honor to listen to that.

Touching and sad! Beautiful!
Beautiful.
Crying my eyes out remembering.
As beautiful as anything I've ever seen in my 65 years during what I THOUGHT was the worst period of American history.
I’ve never seen this version. So genuine.
So moving. You can't listen to this and not be in tears by the end.
Very moving after all these years. Amen.
A Standing Ovation.👒🌠

Classic.
Thanks 'Moms !!!
That took real chutzpah for her as a performer. She was known exclusively for pretty broad comedy so to step in front of an audience with a completely serious performance out of her comfort zone had to be a challenge.
What made this special was Moms Mabley worked with Martin Luther King in the civil Rights movement and knew Bobby Kennedy
