  • TIG welding root pass on 42” pipe, and tig techniques, and set up for the x_ray quality. The TIG method of welding produces a clean homogeneous weld which when radiographed is easily interpreted. A good welder who can produce quality X-ray welds is an X-ray welder. X-ray welder is a tradesman who consistently welds at such a high proficiency that he rarely introduces defects into the weld pool, and is able to recognize and correct defects in the weld pool, during the welding process. TIG welding technique used will depend on the thickness of the pipe, gap size, and position. You can either free-hand or walking the cup. If it is a heavy wall pipe you will want a cup size that is small enough to fit between the groves and slide easily. The video gives viewers good insights into placing excellent and solid root passes. You will get to learn about different technical paths that you can explore. With the appropriate training and practice on the operator's part, learning to place the root can become an invaluable skill!

My videos are recorded at working sites in various locations and welding positions.
90% of my welding projects in videos are x-rayed, and if you like to see hands-on projects, welcome!

Congratulations on the very careful and attentive work. Question: why did you use a reverse protection with inert gas on carbon steel? Oxidation?
