Tracee is the woman I want to become...I learn and gain so much wisdom from watching her. I look up to her so much! She is kind, funny, beautiful, successful, talented, humble and intelligent!
I use to work for a very expensive dry cleaners called MW Cleaners. I for one can tell you all its a scam. We would charge ppl $20 for one garment and it would come back with stains. And don't fall for the whole "it got lost" when you go to retrieve your missing garment. Odds are it was stolen from somebody that works in the factory. So from somebody that has worked for a dry cleaners, all I can say is you are better off doing it yourself. It saves you money and odds are you are doing a better job.
Am I the only one who has a HUGE crush on tracy ellis ross ? I love her eyes & hair and think she's absolutely GORGEOUS! I watch EVERYTHING that she puts out because that's just how much I love her... TrueStory!
travpoet you have nothing to worry about she would never, ever be checking for you anyways bruh..no pic poo ass! Think about it she has alot more then you Lol...Your comment says waaay more about you then her! You a new kinda nut! Smdh..you may think she's not beautiful and others to but she's fine to me...and what you think of her trust alot ppl thinking about you man. Still funny..🤐
Started hand washing and scrubbing my undies a while ago. I’m 23 and don’t have like open motherly figures that tell me this stuff so I use UA-cam. I turn my shirts inside out and scrub the underarms, turn my undies inside out too! I love it!
I've been hand washing while traveling for years and I found this most educational.Thank you, now I know now how to get that yummy smelling smell in my garments!
I love the salad spinner! I've been hand washing for years and I've always rolled in a towel and pressed it like you said. Great advice. Love your channel!
Great tips. I started doing handwashing because of power outage from Hurricane Irma in South Florida. I found it so relaxing. I used a empty Gain detergent bottle to agitate in the kitchen sink. No fabric softener because it can limit detergent cleaning power. I drop tea tree oil to battle the underarm funk. It works great. Thanks...loved you in that Hoodies Awards clip - "Blackfish". Do that washing clothes agitate dance again...you funny.
Hand washing is great to take care of expensive clothes but also great for cheap clothes! Things from Forever 21 and H&M will last so much longer if you hand wash. I hand wash alot of things and people think I am crazy! Glad there are others out there. I do my tights in the winter to "get the funk out." I love the salad spinner idea! I use the towel method and a drying rack. geeking out on handwashing. thank you.
Years thank you! So many people don't know about hand washing clothes. Especially items that say dry clean only. Uh no way those items had to be cleaned some way before dry cleaners were invented. Seriously some of my friends don't even know what a wash board is lol! One of the things I'm glad my grandmother taught me.
Do this when I'm in last minute need of fresh underwear the next day(I put in a week's worth to save water and cut the laundry load I was too lazy to do ..that week). I use dishwasher/laundry soap (never body!!) with 2 drops lavender in a large plastic basin of water and stomp around with clean feet. I rinse two times to get rid od any residue. If you don't have clothes pins...use plastic hangers and place on shower rod! Also I lay clothes on the coffee table/chairs.(place towel first) If I have a few hours(don't have a dryer and it's midnight/too scary to visit laundry mart), I use the microwave for 1 min...then hang. Don't use for bras(wire) and don't leave too long...burned two nice panties this way(diy crotchless/keyhole panties?) *lol*
Love this video... my mother taught me how to handwash my sweaters and silk blouses like this when I went away to college (in the 70s). I also used a lettuce spinner, but it was the kind with the crank on top (time change). I love how fun, yet practical your videos are. Your are like a little sister in my head... love your spirit, character, countenance, apparent values---just love YOU!!! Thanks for sharing. Please keep posting and I, for one, will keep watching.
First: I love you! Second: I've been traveling through Asia for the last 6 months where washing machines are scarce and dryers non-existent. I had to adapt and wash everything (including bedsheets) by hand! I was pissed at first. All that crouching in the shower with a plastic bucket having to rinse again and again. Now I'm hooked! My clothes have never been fresher! The salad spinner idea is brilliant though, bc I was walking around with all those silly wrinkles. Thanks Tracee!!
The salad spinner is genius! I hand wash my sweaters, camis, and tops. I just use my reg detergent with is any free and clear. I knew about the vinegar (also gets sweat stains out of silk)...but the salad spinner?!? This is going to save me some serious time, especially with my sweaters. Thanks for the video!
I'm sorry Tracee but the gentle cycle on my washing machine works just as well but I totally get it. My mother have been hand washing her delicate clothing before I was born and I'm 48. I so enjoy your videos and your sunny personality.
4:27 LOLZZZZ!!! great tips. I have a dress that no dry cleaner wants to touch due to the sequins...been sitting for like 3 years waiting (enter shamed face here)...I'm going to test a section and try this this weekend!!! DUH- why didn't I think of this before I've seen my mom handwash a million times as a kid!!!
You are a heckin GODDESS! I’m so excited to have found your UA-cam channel... My family is about to PCS from San Diego, CA to Panama City Beach, FL in a travel trailer, and laundry has been a huge concern. Yet again, you’ve come in clutch. Keep slaying life, you magnificent soul. 💕
Oh my freaking goodnesss!!! I love you Tracee!!! Lmao.. Not only is this all true but your so hilarious with it, naturally. I usually hand wash my dry clean only clothes too because dry cleaning over and over again is ridicullously expensive. That sald bowl trick though...freaking genius! Wow. I gotta add that technique to my hand wash regimen now. Lol thank you so much Tracee!
hi! I love you! thank you so much! I am not a smart person, don't have lots of money and laundry is so costly. I was looking for a low cost way to clean those items i hate paying to turn over. I only have the use of one hand so the vinegar and salad spinner are life changers for me. Thank you for sharing !! You are amazing
Thank you, Tracee! I have gotten in the habit of hand-washing some delicate items, although there was one awesome thrift find I snagged - vintage gorgeously bejeweled heavy knit sweater, so big that it made the perfect sweater dress. The lady said, "You know you'll have to dry clean it" ...Several cycles later with my washer (with the appropriate detergent and color preservers) and air drying, it still looks like new. Sometimes those tags just *lie*. -__-
I remember the younger years of hand washing...haven't done that in so long. I'm so lazy I only buy blouses that don't wrinkle, needless to say. Great video!
You are hilarious! I love your personality and your helpful tips...you had me laughing at the salad spinner, but I remember what those did to lettuce, why not clothing--genius. This is the first video of yours I've watched and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm going to have to see if you've got videos on hair. I've been exploring my curls for a few years. But, it's always great to get more tips.Fantastic! Thank you.
First time here. Was cracking up watching this video. I was agreeing with everything you said though. Esp the pre-test part! E.g. I once made the mistake of putting the cleanser Directly. On. the underarms of a blouse and it took the dye out. So instead of sweat/odor, I had strange bleach marks. Fail! What you taught me thats new to me is the essential oils for fragrance. Gonna try that next time. Love it.
Loved! I can hardly believe that I watched an 8 minute video about hand washing! I loved every minute. I actually learned some things, but Mostly I just cracked up! You are so frickin' funny!!! Loved!
keiwandamac Yep me too and I was doing some homework for Health class and we just were talking about using restroom and germs. LOL she talking bout washing clothes ... LOL
so look the struggle is absolutely real in my life and so I hustled my cute self to the tub and scrubbed and washed my clothes - handwash style, so to see one of my role models, do THIS too. pretty dope.
I put things in an old pillowcase and spin it around outside or in the kitchen where, hey, I need to mop anyway. You can spin a lot more than one thing at a time like that too.
I used to hand wash when I was much younger but stopped and now do it again...(in my 30's). I don't enjoy hand washing as much as you :-) but I do find that certain items are just better off that way. I could never spend so much money on dry cleaning. :-)
my jacket is more like a hoodie that's handwash only and it's tye died i'm soaking it because it has smoke smell i quit smoking will vinegar or apple cider vinegar help it still smells and the color's won't stop coming into the soaking bucket ? :( :)
This is the closest attempt I've seen to the handwashing technique we use in Jamaica. We will rub a section of the clothing together like that for a total of 10-14 times before we move to the other section. After we soap it up, we rub it and then dip in the water. We divide each clothing item into 5 sections. If it's a large item, like a sheet, bedspread, or curtain, we divide it into 14 sections. We use all kind of things for washing. Some of us So-Sof for the wash water, and regular fabric softener for the rinse water. We use soap powder, blue and/or white soap (some people use Dettol soap), dishwashing liquid or shampoo mixed with hydrogen peroxide to get rid of the grease around the collars, the neck, and the sleeves of a long sleeve shirt, and, of course, bleach for whites. We lather the whites with blue and/or white soap and soak it in some water with bleach for an hour and more before washing. You have better stuff to take care of heavy duty stains, like Florence de Dampierre soap cube and/or powder for motor oil, Whip-It multi-purpose stain remover, Goo Gone, and Carbona stain devil for gum, Whip-It multi-purpose stain remover for bar-b-que sauce, ketchup, mustard and spice stains, like curry, turmeric, and cumin and Lestoil, Krud Kutter, and Greased Lightning for light oil stains. If you want to get rid of yellowing, you can use Nellie laundry washing soda or Restoration. Some of us use washing blue. We place 3 solid washing blue in a piece of white cloth and tie it with a piece of string or we use an elastic band to secure it, and put it in the rinse water. You place it in there until it's very blue, and before moving each clothing item around in a circle for 4 times then taking it out. You do that for 7 pieces of clothing before placing the bag with the solid blue in the water and making it very blue again. You continue doing this until you're finished rinsing. You wring out the dirty water out of the clothes very properly before you hang them up to dry. You can use liquid blue over there. You can use two brands of liquid blue and an eighth of a teaspoon of each. If it's not very, very blue, use more. You can get a powdered optical whitener, too, that you can also put in the rinse water. You can get the 2 brands of liquid blue (Mrs. Stewart's liquid laundry bluing and Bluette liquid laundry bluing) and the optical whitener (Rit whitewash stain remover and whitener powder) from Amazon. Okay. Cleaning is more important than people think. I was taught that the first law of the universe is order, but later on, the Lord told me the first law of order is cleaning and cleanliness. If you want things to align itself well with you, and fight disorder and chaos, you have to learn how to clean and clean well. When you can master the first law of laws, cleanliness and cleaning, it will be easier to move on to other things. Also, the first law of cleaning and cleanliness is washing. And most places over there don't have properly treated or recycled water, so you're going to need the atmospheric water generator (or atmospheric water condenser or the air-to-water maker) so that you can wash in clean water only. You have better bleach to use for your whites, like the Clorox lemon-scented bleach. See, what I just said to you isn't deep for a Jamaican. They already know this without even trying. But since you are doing something that most over there (even though they say they're Muslim) won't do and doing something like the Jamaicans, you're in a better standing than most of them over there. You have been invited to and have been matriculated into the ram's horn Bachelor's university degree program of heaven and you can move on to the potter's wheel Master's university degree program of heaven but you're going to be stuck there forever. But you're far more blessed than most people over there because you're attempting to learn more about the first of the first of the first law so that you can do it better. The most some people will do over there is handwash each section 5 times, and wash it 8 or 9 times only occasional. To overtake, overcome, and overpower certain things over there, you need to do MUCH more than that. I'm talking about really whooping their asses, not just barely doing this and that. That's because the enemies over there fighting against humanity aren't barely doing this and that to destroy the rest of us. And see what you qualify to get in the spirit is the most you can expect in that jurisdiction over there. There's too much fucking up going on amongst the people who should know better (and with so many things to help them and the rest of us fight) to expect any better than that. So, you're blessed beyond compare compared to most over there.
Ya know, I never thought that Tracee Ellis Ross would ever teach me how to wash my sweaters. I love it.
Right?!? Me too!
The wash out the funk little dance

Say. That. AGAIN!
I can't believe an incredibly talented actress takes her time to help people like me with laundry tips... I love you even more now!!

She said “you freakin spin wash that bitchhhh” 😂😂😂😂😂❤️😏 okay I officially know Tracy is the REALEST!
Only Tracee Ellis Ross could make a video about hand washing so interesting and funny. I actually giggled. Loved this!
I love that she's wearing the same blouse in the Brown University video. She's one of us!
Great tips. My grandmother was the queen of hand washing. She taught me that not everything that says dry clean only really needs to be dry cleaned.
Salad spinner who would have thought. You are freaking brilliant!

Love it.
I’ve always loved her and now I love her that much more 🥰
I feel poor and basic for not even knowing that lettuce dryers existed before this video. I've been eating wet lettuce my whole life!
That's hysterical!! I know how you feel! Hopefully Amazon has a really bad ass one..
I didn't know until I worked at a restaurant lol
First time seeing a lettuce dryer-how neat!
Gurrrrllll...you are to real for HD-TV!! Great video and (memorably informing!)!

Awesome, one of the best yet! Ty Tracee, ordering my laundress products now.
So many helpful tips!

Tracee I LOVE these tips!!! I'm for sure gonna use them. I have hand washed before, but I think I've been abusing my clothing in the process.
Tracee makes the simple things in life seem deeply philosophical and charming :)

That salad spinner trick deserves the Nobel peace prize
I 💖 lavender and I 💖 this video 😍 thank you!
I used to hand wash when I was much younger but stopped and now do it again...(in my 30's). I don't enjoy hand washing as much as you :-) but I do find that certain items are just better off that way. I could never spend so much money on dry cleaning. :-)
I love it, Tracee! Thank you, dear.😇
Do you suggest that I hand wash my silk sheets or take them to the mat?
Thanks for this, very useful.
Great tips! Thanks for sharing...

"...cuz it was pullin' all up in my tush..." :-)
