Hey Ceave! So glad you made a video on this! Here's my best level ID: 29386. It's called Snowball Fight, where the player can only deflect enemy bullets. I won't spoil any more, and I'd be really glad if you checked it out!
This doesn't have to do with mega maker but I have an idea for a timer in super Mario maker and I think it will show you a mechanic you have never heard of. here it is. It is a chain chomp timer. in the super mario bros 3 game theme if a chain chomp lunges at you I think 36 time it will suddenly break from its post. This timer only works in the super mario bros 3 game theme. It is a very long timer. Place a mega chain chomp between two p-switches and after about 36 lunges he will get to the exit door. Here is an idea with this timer. Oh it looks like mario found himself trapped on a platform on a track in a small room that keeps going left to right. This would have been a very fun time for mario if it wasn't for the two piranha plants on tracks as small as you can make them with one on the left and one on the right but thankfully after a while this mega chain chomp decides he doesn't want to be held captive on a post anymore allowing mario to escape this nightmare.
After 1.1, Mega Maker was renamed to Mega Man Maker to avoid confusion with others that were named same as the game. And as of 1.7.5 which is the current stable version, there were a lot of features and updates had been added ever since this video came out.
Honest opinion: This game blows Mario Maker at the water. I mean, Look at 1.8. This has more than 20 bosses, 40 weapons, and 40 gimmicks/enemies! It is insane.
There actually exists a Zelda Maker (more or less). Its still in development but it still looks amazing! For anyone wondering the name of it is Runiya and is developed by Dream Mix(also their youtube channel name). I highly suggest taking a look into it if you're interested. Also a great day!
A gigantic Metroidvania Mega Man map was made, and it's called Protovania. The issue, though, is whatever engine MMM is using is not designed to handle such enormous stages, and so the framerate absolutely chugs.

I don't regret having installed the game. I first knew about it in your videos and I decided to install it. I made an incredible level using a lot of weapon capsules. the level is called "Puzzle Castle - Easy map". if you want to play it, I'll upload it soon!
A bit unrelated, but for the end segment, to be honest I'd prefer a Wario _Land_ maker more than a Wario _Ware_ maker since WarioWare DIY already exists. That and Wario Land Maker would kinda work better as a maker since it is a platformer instead of a minigame collection. It would also be cool for fans of the Wario Land series since there hasn't been a game in that series for years. But still, overall, nice video.
Just yesterday I remembered this game existed, and I had a lot of fun replaying my old favorite levels. Then I remembered this video was where I first found out about Megaman Maker. I gotta make more levels if it's still relatively alive!
What's next? Sonic maker? Donkey Kong maker? More makers isn't a bad thing though. I bet we've all played a game and thought, 'I wish I could design a level for this game.' Maker games give us this possibility. Plus they are really creative and imaginative. And being creative and imaginative is fun.
Okay, here are my views on each point 1. I do like the weapons in general, and some are really cool, but I also feel that all of the options actually bar creativity in a way. In Mario maker, there are fewer options, meaning that makers have to get creative and use elements in completely unintended and original ways. This originality that I so love is far less common and less amazing when options are just there. This may just be my puzzle-oriented brain talking, but I really prefer having to come up with original ideas with the things that are available. 2. There really is nothing to criticize about more freedom, and Mario maker could certainly benefit from this as well. 3. More freedom of theme would certainly be used well by Mario maker, and a good designer could likely sculpt a masterpiece with these tools. This would make level design a tad trickier, as certain elements just don't go together, but with a competent creator, freedom would only be a good thing. 4. The health bar is a tricky one, as Mario and mega man are two very different things, but health works well in mega man's world of bullets and fast enemies, just as power ups work in Mario's more platforming-centric universe. Mario maker and Mega maker are two very different games, and to compare them would be grossly inaccurate. Mega maker is a brilliant game, especially for free, and these are just my opinions so don't get caught up over it. Feel free to discuss further and I hope that I've given you something interesting to consider.
I only wish Mario Maker gave us more items and elements to work with, like Mega Maker. There are so many classic power-ups and enemies that could've been used. I'm tired of the same 'castle-theme SMW Bowser fight' Imagine if we got some new bosses, like the Koopalings, Boom Boom, or Kamek. And new world types, including Jungle, Ice, Beach etc.

I'm totally going to make a sprawling Metroidvania map when weapon containers get added. Thank you for covering this wonderful fan project on your channel. Mega Maker is a great example of a more free level creator and I would love to see some of your Mario Maker following check it out.
It's called unitale/create your frisk. if you still care. though a quick warning. the people on the reddit/discord for it basically expect people who use it to have good coding experience with Lua so I don't recommend it.
1. I agree with you . 2. Usually Mega Man Stages have different lengths . Some are 20 squares , some are 25 squares . While Almost all 2D Mario stages are of same length . 3. Mario's physics changes in different styles and different themes, however mega man's physics are same in different games and themes . 4. This is because every Mega Man maker stage is virtually the same while in Mario maker every stage has a unique taste to it . Also , on average Mega Man games are harder than Mario games .
best part is it's still being updated un like the Mario maker games game has so much more stuff now AND it's willy challenge works great unlike Mario makers endless mode or 100 life mode.....like truth be told capcom really should be proud of the fanbase.
Super Mario Bros. X is the greatest Mario Maker game that has ever been released. I think there may quite literally be 0 restrictions. You can make worlds, full games, levels with gosh-darn anything, edit the physics, edit the sprites, edit the music, etc. and Mario X Lua pushes it into godhood if it ever needs to for your creation. There's just one fatal flaw with it as far as mass appeal goes. It's not baby-proof.
TheGamingMasterGuys wasn't super Mario Bros X made by the creator of Terraria? I'm pretty sure he made SMBX before Terraria, but Nintendo told him to take it down. (I'm also pretty sure he used the Mario series, including SMBX as inspiration for Terraria)

I wonder if you saw what the newest versions have to offer. The content that came with the initial release is a joke compared to what there is now (in terms of the amount of content I mean). Oh and by the way, it is now possible to remove and give the player new weapon in the middle of a stage, and you can also change the character they are playing as.
I honestly believe that now, with all of the updates, that mega maker is much better than both mario maker 1&2. Especially the UI god why is the mario maker UI in both 1 and 2 so complicated?
Yay for clever boss rooms! I like your Bomb Man fight with the drop platforms. :D I really want to use this to make an open world-ish game, but it needs things like the weapon pickups your mentioned, save points, teleports, etc. Also, I'd love to see some player-accessible Joe vehicles added, like in Minus Infinity.

I agree with you that Mario Maker should have bigger maps and have vertical stages. I will caution you about having too big of an area though. Players will abuse that shit and create so many shitty levels that have you weaving back and forth. Even if they're trying to make a good stage, often working with limited space stimulates creativity and forces the level to not be empty. I think a median between Mario Maker and Mega Maker can be reached. Edit: The same applies to enemy variety/movement/power up options. My favorite theme in Mario Maker is classic Super Mario Bros because it's so simple. It forces every challenge and enemy to be used correctly and allows for great stages, even without conventional Kaizo tricks. On the other hand, I HATE New Super Mario Bros theme with a passion. Letting Mario in the SMB them use powerups like the propeller hat and the spin jump would ruin that theme IMO.

You would essentially just design top-down 2D Zelda dungeons. Set link's health and inventory and you're off. Honestly, I think if you have anything more than that you're going to sacrifice accessibility and quality. It's fun and easy to just make one dungeon. But to make a whole Zelda game? That's a bit more daunting, and most people will get burned out on trying.
the megamaker devs said on the official discord that every time someone asks for weapon capsules, weapon capsules get delayed by 1 update. as of posting this comment we are waiting 38.5 updates
I'm pretty sure it's real because they get a request for weapon capsules about 2 times a month. even though 1.1.0 is said to be the biggest update yet so who knows if it's in there.
i know, it's a 1 year old video. But if someone (like me) found this video, let me share something about the actual situation of megaman maker, pointing all thats show here: 1 - By the time now, Megaman Maker now have Weapon Containers! And more, there is what i call "Weapon Eraser", that remove the weapon designed too! 2 - Altrought its possible to make giants maps, its quite hard to make a "metroid experience" for megaman maker because, if such level is started, you need to beat it in one swoop. There are some levels that emulate this experience, but they are not gigantic, just quite more big than normal. But i got your point, and i would love to see something more complex like this. 3 - The mix of themes is really amazing, but can be quite annoying to, when the maker just put things for no reason, or just want to confuse the player. But i got the point of this too, and i too believe its awesome. 4 - Never thought about it, haha! ;P Current version is 1.4, and it added some ton of good things, you can play as Bass or Protoman (just grab their capsules, or start a level as one of them!). More weapons, more assets... but 1 thing i really, REALLY want, is the possibility to add the Dr. Willy's fortress bosses to the game, or even the possibility to make a boss rush in the levels (you can find level with more than 1 boss at same room, but as soon 1 of them is defeated, the level is completed). Those things would be nice additions too!
Honestly, what i'd really like in mario maker would be the ability to set areas where certain abilities are disabled or enabled. I don't like the graphics of new super mario, but I like the walljumping. But unfortunately, I find that I only want walljumping in a certain area, or I want midair twirling disabled to make jumps that require more than just mario, without making it so far that it's a blind jump. Plus, that allows for some interesting concepts. Like a 'no moving left' area in the upper half of a room, and a 'no moving right' zone on the bottom half, with a conveyor and obstacles to jump over. Just don't go too far, or you won't be able to go back. Or player, structure, or enemy specific portals, to make things like moving blocks made of bullet bill cannons on a conveyor. Or conditional placement, like 'spawn a goomba if mario has a powerup, otherwise spawn a spike block'. Or setting global modifiers, such as slowing time by 15%, or allowing double jumps, or causing, instead of invulnerability when hit, mario would repel nearby enemies, which allows for powerups in levels that would completely effortless with invulnerability. Or having mario always die in one hit, to allow the effects of powerups, without the added health. Or just have the added health, without the effects. Reduce gravity for floaty moon levels. Increase gravity for puzzles, or captain toad levels. Hey, just make all of those available for zones too, to allow for added complexity. Just think of the possibilities! Flying enemies that swoop down to attack, then fly back up and repeat with high and negative gravity zones. Windy airships with sideways gravity zones. Flying boss battles with negative gravity zones at the bottom of the screen, then a decreased gravity zone for the rest of the screen. Sliding thwomps with more sideways gravity. Maybe even make underwater zones, for floating water like in super mario galaxy. Speed up or slow down time on a corkscrew for more precise timers. Dark areas for underground levels.
i can't wait for mario maker maker. make your own mario maker engine for other users to download and use, then upload your created levels to a separate server where users can play (possibly insane) courses.
There's several the maker games you mention easily available. Warioware DIY is Warioware Maker. There's also Zelda Classic and several other Zelda Makers online that work pretty well. The "Castlevania Maker" cred basically describes the fanscene that hacks into CV1. I actually would love a decent Castlevania Maker and perhaps why not a Metroid Maker. Having huge sizes could make the size of downloads huge (which is the reason Nintendo opted out of it), but if it was programed as something like LUA or something more "protocol" like instead of asset-fest programming it could work. Love the content.
i totally agree with the obtainable weapons, i wanted to make something like a zelda dungeon but couldnt because i forgot it wasnt possible. good thing its still a very early version, smbx didnt stop getting updated after it came out, neither did mario maker.
Hey Ceave, even though UA-cam comments aren't the best way of communicating; how are the controls on mega maker? Is it as good as Mega Man Unlimited Controls where they are spot on or a bit clunky? I'm very curious because controls are the most important to me.
The things i want in mega maker are keys or doors that open after a defeated boss or enemy. And multiple bosses, i dont really like how after you defeat the boss you just win. Also, nice video ceive! Ive been obsessed with mega maker.
Nice video. Megaman Maker is just gorgeous. Perfectable, yes, but so gorgeous. Megaman youth stays in the soul of us who could play these NES/SNES jewelry. There is only one thing that I have to criticise on this video: the background music, seemed very commercial and not even proper for the topic spoken. But I liked the rest of the video.
An indirect weapon container could be designing the sections in a certain way so that you can't use a certain weapon. For example, if you don't want them to use the c. kick, make the platforming difficult enough that they go flying into some spikes. That way, they are forced to use the other weapon or use none at all

After 1.1, Mega Maker was renamed to Mega Man Maker to avoid confusion with others that were named same as the game. And as of 1.7.5 which is the current stable version, there were a lot of features and updates had been added ever since this video came out.
Honest opinion: This game blows Mario Maker at the water. I mean, Look at 1.8. This has more than 20 bosses, 40 weapons, and 40 gimmicks/enemies! It is insane.
There actually exists a Zelda Maker (more or less). Its still in development but it still looks amazing! For anyone wondering the name of it is Runiya and is developed by Dream Mix(also their youtube channel name). I highly suggest taking a look into it if you're interested. Also a great day!

I don't regret having installed the game. I first knew about it in your videos and I decided to install it. I made an incredible level using a lot of weapon capsules. the level is called "Puzzle Castle - Easy map". if you want to play it, I'll upload it soon!
Mega Maker was pretty good from the get-go, which is why it's especially impressive that updates keep coming out every once in a while.

A bit unrelated, but for the end segment, to be honest I'd prefer a Wario _Land_ maker more than a Wario _Ware_ maker since WarioWare DIY already exists. That and Wario Land Maker would kinda work better as a maker since it is a platformer instead of a minigame collection. It would also be cool for fans of the Wario Land series since there hasn't been a game in that series for years. But still, overall, nice video.
The Wario Land inspired game Pizza Tower has a level maker. It might me a mod, but I'm not sure.

Okay, here are my views on each point
1. I do like the weapons in general, and some are really cool, but I also feel that all of the options actually bar creativity in a way. In Mario maker, there are fewer options, meaning that makers have to get creative and use elements in completely unintended and original ways. This originality that I so love is far less common and less amazing when options are just there. This may just be my puzzle-oriented brain talking, but I really prefer having to come up with original ideas with the things that are available.
2. There really is nothing to criticize about more freedom, and Mario maker could certainly benefit from this as well.
3. More freedom of theme would certainly be used well by Mario maker, and a good designer could likely sculpt a masterpiece with these tools. This would make level design a tad trickier, as certain elements just don't go together, but with a competent creator, freedom would only be a good thing.
4. The health bar is a tricky one, as Mario and mega man are two very different things, but health works well in mega man's world of bullets and fast enemies, just as power ups work in Mario's more platforming-centric universe.
Mario maker and Mega maker are two very different games, and to compare them would be grossly inaccurate. Mega maker is a brilliant game, especially for free, and these are just my opinions so don't get caught up over it. Feel free to discuss further and I hope that I've given you something interesting to consider.

2. Usually Mega Man Stages have different lengths . Some are 20 squares , some are 25 squares . While Almost all 2D Mario stages are of same length .
3. Mario's physics changes in different styles and different themes, however mega man's physics are same in different games and themes .
4. This is because every Mega Man maker stage is virtually the same while in Mario maker every stage has a unique taste to it . Also , on average Mega Man games are harder than Mario games .
best part is it's still being updated un like the Mario maker games game has so much more stuff now AND it's willy challenge works great unlike Mario makers endless mode or 100 life mode.....like truth be told capcom really should be proud of the fanbase.

Super Mario Bros. X is the greatest Mario Maker game that has ever been released. I think there may quite literally be 0 restrictions. You can make worlds, full games, levels with gosh-darn anything, edit the physics, edit the sprites, edit the music, etc. and Mario X Lua pushes it into godhood if it ever needs to for your creation. There's just one fatal flaw with it as far as mass appeal goes. It's not baby-proof.

I wonder if you saw what the newest versions have to offer. The content that came with the initial release is a joke compared to what there is now (in terms of the amount of content I mean). Oh and by the way, it is now possible to remove and give the player new weapon in the middle of a stage, and you can also change the character they are playing as.
I honestly believe that now, with all of the updates, that mega maker is much better than both mario maker 1&2. Especially the UI god why is the mario maker UI in both 1 and 2 so complicated?

I agree with you that Mario Maker should have bigger maps and have vertical stages. I will caution you about having too big of an area though. Players will abuse that shit and create so many shitty levels that have you weaving back and forth. Even if they're trying to make a good stage, often working with limited space stimulates creativity and forces the level to not be empty. I think a median between Mario Maker and Mega Maker can be reached.
Edit: The same applies to enemy variety/movement/power up options. My favorite theme in Mario Maker is classic Super Mario Bros because it's so simple. It forces every challenge and enemy to be used correctly and allows for great stages, even without conventional Kaizo tricks. On the other hand, I HATE New Super Mario Bros theme with a passion. Letting Mario in the SMB them use powerups like the propeller hat and the spin jump would ruin that theme IMO.

You would essentially just design top-down 2D Zelda dungeons. Set link's health and inventory and you're off. Honestly, I think if you have anything more than that you're going to sacrifice accessibility and quality. It's fun and easy to just make one dungeon. But to make a whole Zelda game? That's a bit more daunting, and most people will get burned out on trying.
What about a great world like the ocean in wind waker and each user-made dungeon/island is used to fill the world ?

i know, it's a 1 year old video. But if someone (like me) found this video, let me share something about the actual situation of megaman maker, pointing all thats show here:
1 - By the time now, Megaman Maker now have Weapon Containers! And more, there is what i call "Weapon Eraser", that remove the weapon designed too!
2 - Altrought its possible to make giants maps, its quite hard to make a "metroid experience" for megaman maker because, if such level is started, you need to beat it in one swoop. There are some levels that emulate this experience, but they are not gigantic, just quite more big than normal. But i got your point, and i would love to see something more complex like this.
3 - The mix of themes is really amazing, but can be quite annoying to, when the maker just put things for no reason, or just want to confuse the player. But i got the point of this too, and i too believe its awesome.
4 - Never thought about it, haha! ;P
Current version is 1.4, and it added some ton of good things, you can play as Bass or Protoman (just grab their capsules, or start a level as one of them!). More weapons, more assets... but 1 thing i really, REALLY want, is the possibility to add the Dr. Willy's fortress bosses to the game, or even the possibility to make a boss rush in the levels (you can find level with more than 1 boss at same room, but as soon 1 of them is defeated, the level is completed). Those things would be nice additions too!

Honestly, what i'd really like in mario maker would be the ability to set areas where certain abilities are disabled or enabled. I don't like the graphics of new super mario, but I like the walljumping. But unfortunately, I find that I only want walljumping in a certain area, or I want midair twirling disabled to make jumps that require more than just mario, without making it so far that it's a blind jump. Plus, that allows for some interesting concepts. Like a 'no moving left' area in the upper half of a room, and a 'no moving right' zone on the bottom half, with a conveyor and obstacles to jump over. Just don't go too far, or you won't be able to go back. Or player, structure, or enemy specific portals, to make things like moving blocks made of bullet bill cannons on a conveyor. Or conditional placement, like 'spawn a goomba if mario has a powerup, otherwise spawn a spike block'. Or setting global modifiers, such as slowing time by 15%, or allowing double jumps, or causing, instead of invulnerability when hit, mario would repel nearby enemies, which allows for powerups in levels that would completely effortless with invulnerability. Or having mario always die in one hit, to allow the effects of powerups, without the added health. Or just have the added health, without the effects. Reduce gravity for floaty moon levels. Increase gravity for puzzles, or captain toad levels. Hey, just make all of those available for zones too, to allow for added complexity. Just think of the possibilities! Flying enemies that swoop down to attack, then fly back up and repeat with high and negative gravity zones. Windy airships with sideways gravity zones. Flying boss battles with negative gravity zones at the bottom of the screen, then a decreased gravity zone for the rest of the screen. Sliding thwomps with more sideways gravity. Maybe even make underwater zones, for floating water like in super mario galaxy. Speed up or slow down time on a corkscrew for more precise timers. Dark areas for underground levels.

There's several the maker games you mention easily available. Warioware DIY is Warioware Maker. There's also Zelda Classic and several other Zelda Makers online that work pretty well. The "Castlevania Maker" cred basically describes the fanscene that hacks into CV1. I actually would love a decent Castlevania Maker and perhaps why not a Metroid Maker. Having huge sizes could make the size of downloads huge (which is the reason Nintendo opted out of it), but if it was programed as something like LUA or something more "protocol" like instead of asset-fest programming it could work. Love the content.

Nice video. Megaman Maker is just gorgeous. Perfectable, yes, but so gorgeous. Megaman youth stays in the soul of us who could play these NES/SNES jewelry. There is only one thing that I have to criticise on this video: the background music, seemed very commercial and not even proper for the topic spoken. But I liked the rest of the video.

An indirect weapon container could be designing the sections in a certain way so that you can't use a certain weapon. For example, if you don't want them to use the c. kick, make the platforming difficult enough that they go flying into some spikes. That way, they are forced to use the other weapon or use none at all
