  • Today, we are going to check and review the Wyze Cam Outdoor V2 or version 2. This is the second iteration of Wyze's Outdoor Camera and we will check out its new features which a starlight sensor is one of them. What other new features does it have? We will find out in this video. Also, when I reviewed the original Wyze Cam Outdoor more than a year ago, I marked it as a Fail for Wyze, so we will see if the WCO V2 is better or is it another Fail?

I have 4 wyze cameras. About 2 weeks ago, police knocked on my door to ask if they could look at the footage. They were able to see the 2 thieves who had broken in a house down the street. That was pretty neat. However Wyze is getting on my nerves with their constant change in service/subscription. Also I have tons of issues with false alerts and absent notifications.

When we bought our new house that was 3+ hours away from our old house and left it mostly vacant for a month before we fully moved in, Wyze was a great solution to be able to just throw a single camera on the windowsill facing the outside just for "checking in" until we fully got there. Wyze cams are great for beginners who just want simple surveillance/observation. We currently have 2 inside and 1 outside that we use to check in on our doggo/home when we are out of the house and they are great as a cheaper additional set of eyes. For actual security we have Eufy and the combo of the two seems to work well for us overall.
They have their place in the market, but I believe that place has always been overexaggerated: Wyze Cams should be treated as an additional touch to a smart home ecosystem that goes hand in hand with their bulbs and plugs, not as a full-blown legitimate home security system.

We were having issues with the cam's recording up to :12 video's (getting quite a bit of "still shots" instead).....we blamed it on our Wifi, which was 2.4 initially, but we upgraded to 5.0-ish. Didn't solve a thing. We have 3-v1's and 1-v2. None work 100% all the time, (they used to) - but for the price - it's a give & take for us. Great for wild animals, people walking by, passing cars, etc. However, if we did need "real" security...... we suggest looking elsewhere - and bring a bigger wallet..... Very informative vid LH!!

One thing you need. Solar panel. I found that the v1 performs better when the battery is over 95%. I have two cameras in the back yard one v2 pan and one v1 outdoor. I am upgrading to the outdoor v2 specifically for the start light. Also using the infrared on the outdoor uses more battery that is why people should just use the star light and add the wyze solar panel and flood light for improved efficiency.

I have almost all the Wyze products. In the last year, I have had a lot of problems. Most of the problems are with the software. Every time the firmware is updated the programmer forgets something and it will require an additional update. When you have an open service ticket no one follows up. They need to QC after each firmware update.

I have quite a few Wyze products and I feel like a beta tester. I cant complain as they are cheap, I get it. I feel the product team is not made up of actual home owners, but more apartment dwellers. The products lack many features that other competing products have, specifically the home alarm system. The cameras are decent, but not really suitable to be called “security” cameras. The recording limits are ridiculous. Local SSD storage is easy to steal and destroy, the view/resolution at a distance is useless. Again, they are cheap and easy to set up, so I cant complain.

I'm looking for a camera that does not depend on wifi or a sim card... just my android phone. I want to take it camping or use it in place of a spotting scope for target practice. I'd like to see my target 100 yards away using a camera and my phone only. Does such a thing exist ?

why this camera is a fail:
just like the v1, since the camera is designed to be waterproof, there is no way to service or replace the rechargeable battery when it fails. this camera is not designed for high activity usage or constant remote access views by the user - both which drains the battery sooner, causing the battery to fail sooner.
so, when the battery fails you are left with a base station and a useless camera paperweight. if you do replace the battery yourself it is no longer waterproof, or if it is then likely it's a hacked up diy stitched together. this camera is made for light, occasional use.

so why / whats the point of the base station?

  • @n5uge12
    @n5uge12 2 роки тому +2

WYZE needs to improve the link between the camera and the base station. It's very unreliable. The distance that the camera can be placed from the base station needs to be increased.

It’s stupid if there is an sd card on the camera and the hub they should give us the option for 14 seconds of recording locally and even through its screenshot it’s so confusing if it’s screenshot or motion recording and yet it cannot work without the hub

Long time user of their products. 5 different cameras, 1 scale and doorbell getting donated to the trash can. Support is vertically nonexistent! Back to Ring products!

Hey Just a Request ------- you do a lot of advertising and reviewing of Wyze cams... I think it's in your best interest to do a video on the recent vulnerabilities found. These cameras went 3 years without a fix and you still need to MANUALLY update it! it's remote execution!

pass . battery powered cameras are useless , you can add the solar power to not have to take it down and charge it .
star light sensor is nice but not really helpful . i’ve read about issues with the WCO with a lot of users .
just get the v3 , continuous recording and better quality . wyze cameras have low audio and sound but it’s a good camera . that being said a lot of wyze users including me are a bit mad at wyze right now they’ve just been caught lying to their customers about not mentioning that their v1 cameras had a bug that anyone could hack and they swept it under the rug . i’m lucky bc i’ve only used their v3’s but it took them 3 years to release a statement bc a lot of media outlets were letting the cat out of the bag . wyze only responded when they were caught red handed
wyze is slowly losing its identity , it used to be a security company somewhat but now it’s trying to be a smart home company ? with a few cameras ; from scales , gun safe , bulbs , vacuums , etc . they tend to release new products every 6 months and won’t work on them until they need to . they’ve left the floodlight in total bug hell , if you remember LF i mentioned that i experience the bug where when you open the live feed on the floodlight’s v3 the led’s would automatically come on . wyze has known about this and they’re working on an update but won’t be out til next month so 6 months to fix one issue . the gun safe release last month felt like a total slap in the face bc their v3’s are also having issues . their AI is unreliable , getting package , pet , and person , vehicle events are 40% accurate .
wyze’s priorities seems to be somewhere else rn …
