    They're from a different language though? It's not supposed to adhere to english spelling rules, they make perfect sense in Irish

    • @jaredhazen5864
      @jaredhazen5864 7 років тому +9

      Exactly, the phonetics are different. Even then, some of them, like I mentioned in my comment really aren't that different using "enough" and "Sean" as examples. H as a phonetic modifier exists in English too.

    Ya do realize that Irish is a separate language and they use Irish grammar rules. The Irish only use 18 letters from the alphabet These letters do not exist in Irish j, k, q, v, w, x, y, z, Letter combinations bh or an mh create the V sound.
    There is no K in the Irish language so whenever you see a word like Celtic it’s pronounced with a hard K
    So I hope that helps you out when you’re looking at a foreign language.
    Being BRITs you should be a little careful when you deal with Irish culture considering the history

    The majority or not all of people I know (I’m Irish) don’t find American or English names hard or pronounce. We’re fluent in English and we learn Irish in school from the age of five but a lot of Irish people are better at English than Irish and leave school without knowing how to have a conversation in Irish. Gaeltacht regions (mostly Irish speaking parts of the country) are a different story though, the majority of people born into these regions are fluent in both languages.

    a b c d e f g h i l m n o p r s t u. There is no j, k, q, v, w, x, y, z.
    You have to stop thinking in English its Irish a difference language, most of the names should have had an accent on the vowel - it’s called a fada which elongates or broadens the vowel The vowels AO together are pronounced like an E. The Irish way to spell Maeve is Meabh - Sive which is another name is Sadhbh. As there is no V in the Irish language mh or bh gie s a V sound.

      what I meant was Britain is in control of that part of Ireland and I found it funny that British people didn’t realise they had a picture of a United ireland - unless it was intentional which would be funny too

    I don't get why people are always saying "why isn't it spelled like it sounds" about Irish names? This is the case with so many languages around the world but people who speak English for some reason don't get why there spelled the way they are

    Some of the letters in the names have a completely different sound/pronunciation, so, no wonder they are spoken wrong. And yes, I'm English. I have a few Irish friends, one is called Darragh (Dara) and one called Deaglan (Declan), there is Phelan (Falen) and also Tadhg (tige or Tyg).

    Because in the Irish language mh makes a v sound. As well as bh. Gh makes a y sound. And no we don't think your names are weird. We think their just normal names. Also Ciarán is mainly pronounced Ciar-awn. Á makes an aw sound.

    I'm Irish and like we might find it hard to pronance other foreign names ,, I find it insulting that people think our names our "FUNNY" like wtf !!!!!!! IRISH is a completely different language ,,if you saw a sentence in IRISH it is almost completely backwards to English. It is horrible the way people +not just you's) made fun of our native language If it was up to me I would make every IRISH person learn the IRISH language and speak it fluently ,,I am disgusted in the way some people make fun of other languages (not just IRISH)
