Nick's "feel" for the drums is completely pro - this is why he sounds better than other Dimmu drummers. Barker was the best drummer for Dimmu in my opinion.
Absolutely, and he played a part in arranging the songs iirc, which makes sense. His way of stitching in those little unforgettable fills and touches, building the tension up and down, while maintaining the punishing onslaught AND groove?… truly next level shit compared to pure “athletic drumming”. Which… he’s ALSO doing, haha. But he nails the actual *musical* part of drumming and being the rhythm heart of a band. A rare accomplishment in this style of music.
word there. his creative style of using effect cymbals in a melodic way and intese, yet unique way of fills/rolls have made him a favorite drummer of mine.
Nick slams it here. Im really impressed with how dynamic he is. Its pretty hard to get dynamics rocking when your playing that fast. Also, Awesome song!
@xIcarus227 agreed! but the drumming he did with old man's child is unreal too. he is hands down my favorite metal drummer. The drumming on COF's Cruelty and the Beast is intricate and so precise.
@matbell FUCKING AGREED MAN, his creativity for fills and the incorporation of teh cymbals into the fill, in his odd way, made the few albums he was with dimmu, some of the best ones. Blessings upon the throne of tyranny anyone?
I don't think it's even close Nick Barker is the best metal drummer out there. Hellhammer can't hold a candle to that fill speed and creativity. There may be more talented drummers, but Mr Barker's combo of speed and creativity is unmatched and I've listened to it all.
They just used him to get to the level they are at in my opinion he was after all during the cruelty record by cradle the most talked about drummer I the scene at that time anyone else as good was not willing or could be bothered to join dimmu and after old man's child in defiance and death cult by dimmu he got too popular and the dimmu guys got jealous the spotlight wasn't on them anymore it was all about vortex barker and mustis in the media
The Pur Euph Mis album has excellent drumwork. Nick really knows how to balance basic (boring) songsupport with interesting drumwork. Say all the FUCK you want about Nick, but not many drummers can balance these two things. A GOOD drummer makes a song better. Nick does that. He did it with Old Man's Child (In Defiance of Existence album) as well. That's what makes Nick stands above many.
Bear in mind how fast youre brain has to work to be so clinical and precise at this speed ' some natural cpu that he got Amazing talent ' should get alot more recognition
Nicholas Barker? Who dares to criticize him is either a big fanboy or a complete idiot. He was dimmu's and especially cradle's best drummer. Listen to the first album from cradle. Back then he wasn't so fast as he is now, but his creativity... His creativity never ceases to amaze me. Imo one of the best drummers that ever existed. What I hate is that wtf.. He doesn't want to catch attention? Never seen a drum solo from him, I'd fucking KILL to see one.
Tjodalv, on Spiritual Black Dimensions, was the best Dimmu has ever had... and it's also their best album, period, IMO. But that aside, Nick is really never the wrong choice for any band. I bet you, on some long lonely nights in the tour bus, Danni is still crying into a pillow over losing Nick. As he should.
I absolutely love drumming by drummers who are not educated drummers(in this case nick is the professor)....theirs something about being in the moment....raw... in your face punishment without overdoing the arrangement, bombarding the music out of the music so to speak ...its technical but still musical, on record nicks playing is stand alone.Been a fan of his style since dusk
That drum set was admitted to the ER after the show for the beating it took. Dimmu has not been the same since Nick. They limped on and then more members were let go and now they aren’t even the same band. They are ok but haven’t touch the Barker era
the serpentine offering is not done by Nick Barker, that's Hellhammer (Jan Axel Blomberg). Hellhammer is the current drummer for Dimmu Borgir, and Mayhem
why do you have to discredit George's stuff with your stupidity? He's an amazing drummer just as Nick. I'm not a fanboi of either of them but comparison in arts is for the retarded
I love watching him stop!!! choke the crash sit their about mid song during the break with the bell hit re intro its like he's making a sandwich or checking his emails then he comes back in tapping the ride then proceeds to beat the shit out of everything=probably picturing Danis face
it wouldve been cool if nick stayed with COF he was a awesome drummer for them and made COF music more insane like what he did in dusk and her embrace!!!!
Dude Marco Pitruzzella is playing blast beat with fingers,Kollias and Derek are using their wrists also Marco is playing on a e-kit if he go on a normal kit im sure you wont listen what he is playing

@@jvince001 wonderfully said!
Still my favourite drummer - his creativity is a huge inspiration!
Haha, he has influenced you alright! Your playing style is rather similar.
Wanja [Nechtan] Gröger me too. his hits sound so special because of the speed and the very consistent dynamics imo
My favorite also
Nick and Gene Rules!!!
perfect use of toms and cymbals
Impeccable timing.. He never rushes through the slow parts, or slows during the faster licks... Awesome talent!
Yes very true
his fills are so perfect..
the album he did with Old Man's Child has some of my favorite playing from him...
Yes, he was the best drummer for Dimmu, Hellhammer had nothing on him
his work he did on dimmu borgirs album puritanical euphoric misanthropia was fucking amazing O.O
Legendary precision and fills. Love the cymbal work too.
Best Drummer of Universe !
He was the best drummer in dimmu borgir's history...
Nick's fills were albums so fresh and creative, I miss him in a big top band!!!
Fills at 00:39, 00:48, 1:43, 1:51, and most especially 01:58 . So perfect.
personal favorite metal drummer. he's amazing with dimmu, cradle, and old mans child!
RIP Dimmu Borgir that contained real ENERGY
Ain't that the damn truth - throw out your best members and what are you left with?
This song reminds me of the spooky race track in Mario Kart 64, with the ghosts.
My favorite drummer for Dimmu
One of the most musical metal drummers i've seen. He has very unique style that fucking rocks! \m/
The ONE and only Mr.Nick Barker
In each band that he collaborated the sound gets awesome.
word there. his creative style of using effect cymbals in a melodic way and intese, yet unique way of fills/rolls have made him a favorite drummer of mine.
2:45 DAT FILL !!!!
Nick slams it here. Im really impressed with how dynamic he is. Its pretty hard to get dynamics rocking when your playing that fast.
Also, Awesome song!
I love when he uses chinas, splashes and the ride, you usually know when if he is playing or not.
Barker one the best drummers ever without doubt.
Imagine seeing this live... Thanks youtube. and the guy that recorded it.
so fast and perfect.
wish he was still with them.
he's giving me so much energy....i want to brake something when i'm listening to him...
Unearthly...the best. Incredible drumming, excellent fillers, precise timing. What else do u want?
one of the best song,.. and best drummer
i feel that nick was at his best...in his prime during this time just a fkn monster

this is great, thanks for putting this up.
My favorite drummer.
He's the best. Hands down the best!
Nick is awesome. Sometimes I hear the Gene Hoglan hnfluence in his playing.
Nick and Gene are my favorite metal drummers.
Is Nic playing with Ancient now?? Thats what I hurd.. I love his work in old Cradle!!
out of this world
so fucking perfect at his job.
One word to describe Nick... EFFORTLESS.
@xIcarus227 agreed! but the drumming he did with old man's child is unreal too. he is hands down my favorite metal drummer. The drumming on COF's Cruelty and the Beast is intricate and so precise.

Love that song..all in Putitanical album

hes fuckin flawless and makes it look so easy and effortless... epic and love the song my favorite album

Master 🤘🏼☄️🖤
wow great drumming !
Simply the best.
@skekord he's not American, he's from Britain...
I have to say it : i miss him in Cradle Of Filth. Nick Barker is an amazing drummer. He's the Cozy Powell of black metal !!
Unbelievably bad ass legend \m/
Mrbigdong99 - TOTALLY agreed - Barker is fantastic and unique!
Best drummer ever, best line up ever, still love this fucking drummer for life.
it doesnt matter what trigger you use. the sound that comes out depends on what module your using.

Nicholas Barker and Danny Carey are my top 2 drummers.... Theyre both bad ass!!
they should really get him back, dimmu has never been as good in the albums he was in.
Good job for so big drummer:-)
GRACIAS GORDO BARKER POR REGALARNOS ESTA PIEZA MAJESTUOSA
Barker is the effin Man. Even the shit on Cruelty is fuckin sick - all those fills and creative progression - he gives it his fucking all, always.
no doubt the best metal drummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cof, dimmu, brujeria, olds man child.
The Pur Euph Mis album has excellent drumwork. Nick really knows how to balance basic (boring) songsupport with interesting drumwork.

He makes it look so easy.
Best drummer in the world.
Best drummer for Dimmu Borgir !!!

thx for uploading! 5*
the serpentine offering is not done by Nick Barker, that's Hellhammer (Jan Axel Blomberg). Hellhammer is the current drummer for Dimmu Borgir, and Mayhem
@avatargir It wasn't just the ride... he was snare blasting.
for his size, he is a fucking speed demon. even for a small lean guy what barker plays is insane.
he played the drums like a piano:)very creative
Seems like 30 fps is not enough to get a clear view of Nick Barker playing the drums ;-)
@matbell same, puritanical > in sorte, even though their new album is sick, I still love the durmming from nick compared to hell hammer.
You are right..Nick full with creativity
Actually i think he wrote the drum parts for this one ;)
still some jokers want to mention the Kollias name??
jjajajajaja
George is fast and boring nick has taste and a man that big doing what he does makes me think phenom
why do you have to discredit George's stuff with your stupidity? He's an amazing drummer just as Nick. I'm not a fanboi of either of them but comparison in arts is for the retarded
@@hazardeur just get lost if you like that boring drummer. Nick is king, Kollias is merely good.
@@ofmetalphilosophy4837 man 4 years time you had and you still didn't mature up? it's about time dude
you're right, i see it on wikipedia. Hellhammer's on hiatus with them, because he's recovering from neck injury. Tony Laureano's filling up for him.
I love watching him stop!!! choke the crash sit their about mid song during the break with the bell hit re intro its like he's making a sandwich or checking his emails then he comes back in tapping the ride then proceeds to beat the shit out of everything=probably picturing Danis face

People you have to hear Allegiance of Dimmu Borgir, he's really fast on it.
