Wow 125k views thanks everyone! I didn't even realise this was popular till now haha. I must say I really miss having a drum kit to record for my backing tracks, it lends a sense of authenticity that is almost impossible to capture with sequenced drums. Unfortunately had to leave that house and now I have no room for it. Thanks for the kind words everyone, and for keeping the spirit alive. More tracks coming soon!
Many guitar players feel the feeling of "ascending" as I call it. Entering a new level of playing, when soloing, and everything aligns, it all clicks and the guitar is screaming the emotions you are feeling. My younger brother (15 years old) passed away 2 years ago and certain songs like this one connect me to him. I got this feeling of "ascension" while playing over this backing track, only this time it was like he was playing for me. I don't cry often but tears formed and fell as I closed my eyes and played. Amazing backing track, thank you for allowing me to feel.
He came dancing across the water With his galleons and guns Looking for the new world In that palace in the sun. On the shore lay Montezuma With his coca leaves and pearls In his halls he often wondered With the secrets of the worlds. And his subjects Gathered 'round him Like the leaves around a tree In their clothes of many colors For the angry gods to see. And the women all were beautiful And the men stood Straight and strong They offered life in sacrifice So that others could go on. Hate was just a legend And war was never known The people worked together And they lifted many stones. And they carried them To the flatlands But they died along the way And they built up With their bare hands What we still can't do today. And I know she's living there And she loves me to this day I still can't remember when Or how I lost my way. He came dancing across the water Cortez, Cortez What a killer.
One of my all time favorites and part of my inspiration for taking up the electric was Warren Haynes' blistering solos on his covers - thank you for this!

Paul, would you do me the honour of allowing me to use this as backing music in a motorcycle trip video I'm putting together (with full credit/citation in the description of course). Thanks
Hey Paul. I currently have a UA-cam channel where I'm playing my way through Guitar World magazine's top 100 solos of all time. Cortez is coming up next week on my list. Just reaching out to you for permission to use your backing track. It's fantastic.

I try to play the solo more like the way J Mascis plays it. It’s more explosive
Wow, I love Neil and Jay, I can’t believe I’ve never heard it
@@dinglegonzo just type a in Cortez the killer J Mascis. It’s live and amazing
Warren Haynes absolutely crushes soloing this song with Dave Matthews band. Strongly suggest giving that a listen too.
