  • The crazy thing about the landscaping timbers is that they are usually less than 2 bucks each. But at the time of this video, during the pandemic and lumber shortage, they are stupid expensive at over 5 bucks each.
Only ended up using 8 of them for this raised garden bed. We went with the full length of the boards (8 feet) and cut the shorter pieces on the ends to 16 inches.

I prefer a taller bed. if you put a brick under the corners, it will keep your lumber from making direct contat with the ground and increase the life of the project.

One piece of advice, if I may. I would use cardboard instead of pladtic under all the soil. Why? Because plants have tap roots that need to grow into the soil and the plastic blocks that process. Also you are keeping the earthworms and microbes from doing their job. Plain brown cardboard will still suffocate the weeds/grass and will eventually feed the earthworms and help fertilize your roots.

Are you concerned about the toxins from the timbers leeching into the soil and into the plants you eat?

In the long run, it saves the morticians money cuz they don't have to use as much formaldehyde to embalm ya! Always an upside if ya look for it. LOL
