H. Scout Thank You for the driver video. After 40 years of slicing, watching numerous videos and reading instructions in magazines, your 10 minute video changed my game from frustration to excitement. I gained 30 yards on my drive and I’m hitting many more fairways. Your short game instructions are also very helpful, your teaching method is entertaining and the instructions clearly presented and easy to understand.
I'm a senior golfer dealing with decreased flexibility and club speed so I really appreciate all of your videos directed at improving the game of us older players. When it comes to my driver, I tend to drive my right elbow into my right side/hip during my downswing (which I think you suggest) but I think it causes me to lock up so I have a really hard time getting the club face closed at impact. I've tried the "turning the screw" method you described and recommended about 5 months ago but I jammed my right thumb so severely doing that I couldn't grip anything with it very well for about 4 months. It's now been 5 months and my grip is better but I still can't apply enough pressure to open a new jar of Pickles. Any suggestions about how to stop driving my elbow down and inside OR how to get my hands to turn over and close the club face in spite of it?
I know this is an older video, but whenever my driver starts to get a little out of sorts, I always come back to it and it fixes things up. Thanks so much for posting this and I hope you never take it down!
Great video. Loved the Turn the screw you used in this video. You did mention this action in a prior video but this time it made more sense. I would love to see a video about shafts in the driver and how it affects the shot shape. EX: using a stiff shaft when you should be a regular or the other way around when you are in a regular shaft and need a stiff.
Great lesson. With regards to turning the screw do you use that technique for all clubs? I recall a lesson you did on wedges and you mentioned it then. Does that help square the face at impact? Keep up the good work and thanks.
As a Phys Ed teacher I like this video a lot! But, I wish instructors would stop telling people "what NOT to do" in their videos. Focus on the DO's. And make the videos 5 minutes or less. Again, great tips, especially the hand width from the body.
What a superb tutorial on the driver. I must have watched a thousand driver videos and never got it. You’ve narrowed the hundred elements i have seen that are supposed to magically come together in your head into just a couple of things to do. I cannot wait to try this out. Thank you so much!
After 20 years of playing, some private lessons and a lots of practice buckets, your left wrist "turning the screw" was what was missing in my swing. A BIG thank you!
That take away tip very helpful. Still think your single best when it comes to full swing/driver is "release at target and not at the ball" in another vid. Heard it many times, of course, but not seen demonstrated in quite that way! Well done.
Amazing tutorial, this all is so easy to follow and broken down to simplify it! So many videos complicate it to a degree you cannot follow. I’m consistently over 300 yards now because of this video, awesome!!👍
The fanning takeaway fix is perhaps the most effective for accuracy. My swing is kind of short, so take away matters more to me than most other golfers
I loved this video, but when I tried to "turn the screw", I found it difficult to hit the ball well. I could use more help on this.EDIT: A week later, I'm much more able to do this successfully, and it's feeling much better and more natural. Now, I'm noticing on my videos of myself that I'm hardly rotating my waist on the backswing, and I'm also getting very suddenly upright at the end of my swing. I'm trying to add in a lowering of the club angle on the downswing, which you didn't cover in this lesson, and maybe it's just too many swing thoughts making me awkward. I would love to hear about this lowering of the angle in combination with the other main ideas in this video. I definitely think taking videos of yourself is a great training aid.
Great video. Your insight on how to describe something is very refreshing. Hands to ear is something everyone can relate to and visualize. Some of the instructors get too technical instead of explaining it in a way regular folks can understand. The way you explain it lets people use their natural athleticism and not get too bogged down with swing mechanics/thoughts. As others said many times before KISS, keep it simple stupid. LOL
Great video. It makes sense and you show and explain everything. I am a leftie and in my seventies and can do everything but TURN THE SCREW as I use the Moe Norman, single plane method. By not turning my wrists I find I hit the ball straighter but am definitely going to try your steps. Thanks again
Hopefully this helps to fix my wicked 30 yard slice!! Big fan of the videos, you make everything sound so simple and doable, will be putting this to practice at the range
Tnank you!!! I love the turn the screw cue. I was feeling that there was something missing at the transition into the downswing yesterday. This is it. I'm going to work in this tomorrow.
Wow! Killed it today, Narrowed my stance, set the driver a little closer and only missed 2 fairways and they were just off the fairway by a foot or two. Excellent tips. Thanks
Thank you for this video, seriously. Two days ago I saw comments of people saying they hit more fairways than ever before after these tips and thought they may have been bots promoting the video. Fast forward to today, I played a round over the weekend and got more fairways like others have said. Turning the screw was like a lightbulb in my head and my downswing felt much more natural. My single-digit handicap buddy was only hitting it 10-20 yards farther than me from the fairway, whereas I would usually be hitting from some deep rough on the right. MrShortGame has the goods for the whole course!
Glad I found you. The left wrist turn the screw is crucial. Started to apply it about a week before watching this video. Didn't have a visual grasp of turn the screw but same exact concept. Man it works great! It's like Hogans secret. Thanks.
I have an interior heart pacemaker, Dr says I may golf, but must keep no higher than shoulder high. What should my 3/4 swing look like, and how to accelerate?
Very helpful video and a great explanation of the technique. One thing I would like to ask .... What is your aim at? A spot behind the ball? The ball itself? In front of the ball? etc...
Awesome thanks 😊but question I'm having trouble with striking my iorns of grass purely any tips 😆 lol off the mat perfectly but got to play and I chunk most of me irons SMH
An excellent video, only bettered by the one where you are chipping over your pool; which is the single best teaching vid ever. However, your garden is a disaster, how about some Zen Japanese raked gravel if the grass wont grow? Or fake grass?...or carpet as a last resort, anything :) .keep up the great work
It is maddening trying to hit a driver far. I am 64 and in great shape, but my maximum drives are 200 yards . I watch guys older and way out of shape on the driving range hitting it 300 yards. I do everything Mr short says-No dice.
It’s not easy to suggest that a conscientious golfer take notes but it’s necessary. Writing like the golf swing is a meditative art form. The best way to associate life’s experiences is to quiet one’s mind to excite the imagination! It produces leadership. It internalizes a wealth of information to a personal perspective. Today’s immensely talented young people are being overwhelmed by too much information. Right now the young are just trying to stay on the bull! Thanks
Watched half of this video and subscribed.... holy sh** you make it so much easier to understand these techniques. True teacher... Bell has been rung! Can't wait for the next video!
Mr short game, this is a fantastic video, I'm going to take it out on the range, and use it procedure, I'll let u know how it works, I'm a natural fader of the golf ball, and if my swing plane is off I slice to the right. I will let u know how ur instructions worked for me. Thank you, Andy
I know my posture sucks but I don't know how to fix it. Down the line it looks like my shoulders drop too far in front of me. Eventually my back hurts after 18 holes.
I tend to pop the ball higher than I want to. I have minimal flexibility on my left wrist due to injury so what else can I do if I can turn the screw. Im 5' 10" and don't know if I'm teeing up the ball too high or my club degree is off. Right now I have it 9.5.
Very very good, i just have one question, weight transfer in downsving, i hit very low drives so probably transfer my weight to much and to early etc etc.
Need video on turning the screw by itself. This causes a draw / hook in every club in the bag. Nice if you want it. How the hell can you hook / draw a 64 degree lob wedge? Turning the screw will! What are we doing wrong?!
Been waiting for this one Mr. SG - THANKS. I hope someday I get the chance to meet you...green fees on me...heck at this point, I'll get the beer and hot dog as well. Thanks. Keep up the great work. Your chipping video has turned my game into fun. Gotta go...driving range is waiting.
Great videos because they are targeted at us normal humans. So many are trying to turn us into tour pros. And that ain’t gonna happen. On that tho, I find any conscientious thinking about hand rotation just too much. Will enough practice burn it into muscle memory?
Turning the screw is at the top of the backswing. Which drops the club into a lower swing plane on the downswing. My stance was too wide. It will upset my weight being centered just behind the ball.
Maybe im wrong, but the turn to the right with your wrists would be tightening the screw not loosening it. Righty tighty.....lefty loosey is the way to remember it. I have had a couple of drinks but im sure im right.
Narrower stance is a taller stance and a different rotation. The stance will change a lot in a persons swing. Stand how it’s comfortable for you. It really depends on what the golfer expects out of the golf shot.
Thanks this turning the screw has helped me a ton with my other clubs, but not my Driver. I still use all of the other tips to help me hit my driver. I am hitting driver better with the other tips.
Hi there blu at last, I fell that it is coming together, and that is only after two round's. Thank you Mr am going to keep at it, not got to the screw yet one step at a time.
My problem with driver is I never hit the centre of the face on on my driver it’s always towards the toe my average driver carries 215 And roles out to 255 total is that a setup issue or a swing issue
Tried these tips yesterday at the range and hit my driver longer and straighter than I have all year. Now I just need to practice and make these changes permanent. Thanks Matt!!!
Been having lessons at a High tech facility. you're absolutely spot on. I need to work on my "screw" action and fire my hips round so i don't end up pushing the ball to the right. Great instruction sir.
H. Scout

At what age should I just admit I'll never be long of the tee again? I'm 62 and lost 30-40 yards since I was 50. If I hit it good, I can get 250yds. 😢
As a Phys Ed teacher I like this video a lot! But, I wish instructors would stop telling people "what NOT to do" in their videos. Focus on the DO's. And make the videos 5 minutes or less. Again, great tips, especially the hand width from the body.
"shoulder to toe, hand to ear", this is really helpful to make a correct swing plane.
What a superb tutorial on the driver. I must have watched a thousand driver videos and never got it. You’ve narrowed the hundred elements i have seen that are supposed to magically come together in your head into just a couple of things to do. I cannot wait to try this out. Thank you so much!
Bro!!!!!! Today i went out and killed it with my driver. Hit all but two fairways and I crushed my drives. Thanks bro keep up the good work.
Great Video! Can you go into this "turn the screw" thing more in detail next time?
When we hear a tips we practice, tips, practice, tips, practice....suddenly we getting better because we practice. #swinglikemoe
This is by far, the BEST driver tutorial.
After 20 years of playing, some private lessons and a lots of practice buckets, your left wrist "turning the screw" was what was missing in my swing. A BIG thank you!
Which way are you turning the screw? Towards the ball or away?
That take away tip very helpful. Still think your single best when it comes to full swing/driver is "release at target and not at the ball" in another vid. Heard it many times, of course, but not seen demonstrated in quite that way! Well done.
Love the "turn the screw" motion.
Love ur videos bro! John 3:16
Anybody else notice he’s wearing a Bushwood CC hat?

Hi
“Turn the screw” it’s like “sand the floor” or “paint the fence” from karate kid. Very good tutorial. Helpful keep up the good work
Hopefully this helps to fix my wicked 30 yard slice!!
Big fan of the videos, you make everything sound so simple and doable, will be putting this to practice at the range
dude, thats a great help,i have been struggling with the 1 driver but that vid helped me out no end,thx
Hi great lesson. Q. When you turn the screw DO YOU HOLD IT IN POSITION THROUGH THE SWING OR RELEASE IT
THANKS GENE
Well done! I am one of those low back swings and...my big driver fault is over the top. I will work off of this video to see how I do. Thanks!
Tnank you!!! I love the turn the screw cue. I was feeling that there was something missing at the transition into the downswing yesterday. This is it. I'm going to work in this tomorrow.
Thank you, I loved this information. I know there are several changes I am going to make. Your instruction is very concise and easy to understand.

That lesson was the best lesson I ever had! Bravo! Love the Ben Hogan Golf video lessons also! You’re awesome! ! Thank you! 😍👏👏👏👏
Best tutorial driver i've seen!!! keep doing such good tutorials, love you my hero! haha!!🔥🔥🔥🔥

Nice, Thanks, where are you located, maybe you could check out my golf swing in person? Thanks I really appreciate all of your Videos
Turning the screw as you start the downswing ... extremely unnatural - mentally difficult to do.
An excellent video, only bettered by the one where you are chipping over your pool; which is the single best teaching vid ever. However, your garden is a disaster, how about some Zen Japanese raked gravel if the grass wont grow? Or fake grass?...or carpet as a last resort, anything :) .keep up the great work
Another gem of a video. One thing, how far should my feet be apart when shooting a basketball lol! Just kidding. Great tips.
Just awful

I know my posture sucks but I don't know how to fix it. Down the line it looks like my shoulders drop too far in front of me. Eventually my back hurts after 18 holes.
"distance is one head away from.... 👀 your body.. okay your body" the look he gave the camera i fucking love this guy lmfaooo

I recently fixed my horrific slice, however now it is a horrific hook. Hopefully I can apply stuff in this video and straighten the dang thing out

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir, besides, I NEVER slice.
Great videos because they are targeted at us normal humans. So many are trying to turn us into tour pros. And that ain’t gonna happen. On that tho, I find any conscientious thinking about hand rotation just too much. Will enough practice burn it into muscle memory?

I’m trying this, this week gotta work on my driver you fixed my wedge play
wait a minute... who the hell gets driver advice from MrShortGame ??
Narrower stance is a taller stance and a different rotation. The stance will change a lot in a persons swing. Stand how it’s comfortable for you. It really depends on what the golfer expects out of the golf shot.
best ever driver lesson. thank you so much
30 years of slice… turning the screw. So simple, thank you
I've been standing too wide. Narrowing the stance helps me turn better back and through
I would 100% be flying my ball over that fence with that setup.
So does this technique apply to all clubs?? Or is it just the driver thought process?
Thanks this turning the screw has helped me a ton with my other clubs, but not my Driver. I still use all of the other tips to help me hit my driver. I am hitting driver better with the other tips.
Matt, natural swing is a baby draw. If I turn my wrist will it cause the club face to close to much and cause a snap hook?
When I try to “ turn the screw”, it forces me to increase my grip pressure on the club. Is that what should happen?
Why not just start the swing with wrist in the turn the screw position. Seems you are requiring some difficult timing this way??
Great vid...enjoyed that and picked up afew tips 👍👍
You are one head away... from..... uuhm... from.. your.. uhm.. :D :D
Just found your channel.... hooked already. Keeping it simple 👍
Watched your video. Narrow stance and hands to the ear! Awesomeness!!!
Golfing on Thursday will let you know if I can bring it all together thank you
Hi there blu at last, I fell that it is coming together, and that is only after two round's. Thank you Mr am going to keep at it, not got to the screw yet one step at a time.
Is there a way that you can show your driver swing in slow motion...each phase?
great video.. Mr Short Game. So on the way down is when you screw the left hand?
My problem with driver is I never hit the centre of the face on on my driver it’s always towards the toe my average driver carries 215 And roles out to 255 total is that a setup issue or a swing issue
One man's ceiling is another man's floor. I'm 67 years old and I would love for the average carry of my driver to be 215 with 255 total roll. 🐸
I honestly forgot his snake was mr short game lol I thought it was mr fix my damn good game
Hands up by ear causes me to come over the top. I prefer hands back to my shoulder.
Tried these tips yesterday at the range and hit my driver longer and straighter than I have all year. Now I just need to practice and make these changes permanent. Thanks Matt!!!
Great tutorial- I’ve now been practicing this and it’s made such an improvement. It’s so much more simpler to use.
Been having lessons at a High tech facility. you're absolutely spot on. I need to work on my "screw" action and fire my hips round so i don't end up pushing the ball to the right. Great instruction sir.
Can you do some short game videos with the driver? Thx
🤣
MrshortGame what kind of grip do you use
Would you use the same swing thought with all your full swing shots??
When I do the screw motion on my driver I keep slicing it. It keeps going to the right.
Awesome 👏🏾I struggle off the tee!
Just getting into golf. Your channel is the best to learn from.
Hate watching his videos at night because I gotta wait till the next day to try it out! Haha.
Great Instruction easy to follow best on UA-cam
Hey mate went out today and used ya advise on this clip and didn't drive a bad ball 🤯
In order to have a short game you have to have a long game first.
This is the best driver video I have seen. Thank you much.
What if you cannot rotate that far in the back swing to get your hands by your ear?
