Chad Reed bids farewell to Supercross: 'We took on the world' | Motorsports on NBC
/ nbcsports
With that the last of the generation I grew up watching is retired. Reed, Villopoto, Stewart, Dungey, and Carmicheal. Sad day
Add Jeremy McGrath and Jeff Ward and its the same for me. A generation and a half down. And I only like a couple of the new guys.....
I feel your pain man
@@youcanbesmartaskhow3857 I saw McGrath and Emig race in Charlotte as a teen... Knack Knack and all! Was incredible.
I so agree its just not the same
@@wb3191 that would have been a great one!! Emig was so fast. McGrath was a natural, those were great races.
Just wish he was going to get the standing ovation he deserves at the final race. The teams need to do something special for Reed
Maybe you could send him some money? Appears he needs a paycheck and not sure how well he can ride that lapperDog status to the bank.
I’m 27 now and this is my child hood in a video. I’m not crying you are.....
No Chad Reed? Somethin in my eye.....
Thanks for making me not feel like the only one that teared up a little, felt like a real puss until I read this comment
Kinda am
Hats off to the man, he is like Kevin windham to me as far as longevity goes.
@@250txc ?
@@250txc is a waste of space oxygen theft chad did alot for the sport soo much entertainment with James, Ricky, dungey, villopoto have some respect that the era of these legendary riders have come to the end you know chad might have been a lapper but atleast he still made it to the main and did his best everytime your just upset you will never match the greatness of someone like chad
I have tears in my eyes watching this. Big respect for Chad
You'll never be forgotten champ. Thanks for all the years of giving it your all!
Legend. One of the greats.
Awesome career! Congrats we love you Chad! #22
Such a great Australian. So proud of what he has done. Legend for all times 🇦🇺👌😎✌️
Thought he was a kiwi haha oops
Gotta love the Ausies...
Some of the greatest athletes that kids should be looking up to participate in sports that don't get much recognition. Great people with good values and doing the things they love should be something kids look up to while growing up.
I'll miss you Chad, thanks for inspiring me. You will always be a Legend in the sport.
I love Chad Reed and always have. I believe he'll be back next year to race in front of the fans
A true rider.
Thanks for all of the great times, great racing, and most importantly great sportsmanship.
I'll always remember Chad coming out in 2003 on that Yamaha with the spiky hair and curved barbell in his ear. For some reason 12 year old me thought that was super cool.
Oh god those were the days though McGrath and the metal mulisha taking over ugh I want to go back
Because he definitely was 👍🏻
He was and still is cool. One of my favorites hate to see him go. But all good things must end.
@@250txc that would be you.
It’s enough to make a grown man cry 😢
@@250txc well, easy to see that you are nowhere near a grown man!
Salute to you legend. Ur always be my idol in track field 😍
Well, I enjoyed watching all the good hard fought racing by Chad Reed. He always kept things interesting and the dude has a world of fight in him.
mann I looked up to this guy! used to watch him when I was a kid on my fathers computer, he basically introduced me to motocross. I wanna be like him! chad 22 is the best supercross rider for me!
Hats off to his Missus too she looks like one of his biggest fans
god, please!
She always had his back. The love between them is so evident.
Dude, I've been watching Chad Reed since I was seven, gonna miss watching him race. What a career.
Straight up savage.. love that man ozzy ozzy ozzy
The saddest part is he was one of the last people in motocross/supercross of his generation.
Chad, you are the reason I bought my 2003 yz250 that i still own!! You are the man!
One of the best
What a story! What a career! Whatever the Reed's do it's 💯 all the time. I get tears in my eyes watching this. Great years and times glad I got to witness CR22 career.
Me to brother loved watching this guy grow up to be what he is today. Always loved watching him race
Is this you #22?
True legend right here. We will miss you Chad
A Great Champion!!
Think about all the great riders that this dudes battled. Literally generations of riders
Chad has been my favorite rider forever I hate seeing him go but cant race forever 😩 your a inspiration to everybody!
Chad is a legend and the GOAT in my eyes! True love for the sport and a great role model! Thanks Chad!
Keith Peterson I don’t think it’s all about wins, or championships. Obviously Carmichael and McGrath have more wins and championships, but, I think the impact he has had on the sport can’t be touched. And really he has raced through so many eras, on so many changes and equipment. I don’t think the rest could’ve hung with chad. Just my opinion!
I still remember watching Bar to Bar 2009 as a kid before each of my races and watching him and Stewart go at it. Chad has my respect 👑
Makaveli fr he would sit next to me too before we headed out to the track.
Makaveli he is man
Learning to eat a steady diet of blueflags is respectable? Sure but not for any other xchampion. He needs a paycheck?
It was a great ride Chad. You're definitely one of the greatest in the history of Motocross last supercross
Legend
Thanx for the exciting moments.congrats on your great accomplishments ......good luck to you and your family!!!
I'll always remember Chad Reed on a big red Honda with gold wheels. It's the reason I have mine today!!
Except he was on a Yamaha first
@@akane742 yes I have been seeing highlights of those years as well. And I guess he was team green [Kawasaki] for a while too?
@@youcanbesmartaskhow3857 Pretty sure Chad has ridden almost every manufacturer...
@@leekrause569 yeah now that he was on a KTM the last few races I think that officially makes all makes for him!
@@youcanbesmartaskhow3857 I thought he started on Suzuki's.
Has he "officially" announced that Sunday is his last Supercross? I'm hoping he at least races A1 next season so we can give him the standing ovation he deserves
Yes. He did his official farewell during AUS-X Supercross, months before A1 in 2020. Saying 2020 is his final year. Just go watch the video of him doing it there.
I agree, he needs to go out in front of cheering fans. He deserves it.
He said after he won the LCQ at round 16 this probably won’t be his last race Sunday because he doesn’t want that to be bit. And it doesn’t feel like a real farewell
He said after the LCQ win that it might not be his last, because he wanted his last race to be with the fans and it doesn’t feel the same without us there
He stated that he WILL race some events in 2021 because we all got screwed thanks to China!!! He wants to say goodbye and finish racing in front of actual people in the stands.
After 28 years of watching, Chad is maybe my favorite rider.
W.E.A.K. Unless you like lapp-dogs?
@@250txc you must be a youngin
@@dherpin4874 Don't bother to look at my channel. You'll get a real clue.

With all the BOTS and children out on the web who are so important, showing any type of ignorance is important to understand who commenting.
Congratulations chad!
Man I will forever remember seeing him in 2003/2004/2005
Great dude!
Will miss you chad reed 22 for all the years of racing!
Having raced over a DECADE LONGER than other professional riders, Chad has the LONGEVITY AWARD hands down!! - 👍😉
Mike Larocco was an ironman too. Not quite the Supercross success as Chad but a tough rider.
Yep and has the record for 'lapped most in a career'. He was a good lapdog and got out of the champs way in most races and did not affect the racing results.
@@250txc what a fn looser you are hate in your veins.
Thank you Chad for all the memories, have watched you for years,a true chapmen much respect you will be missed,22🥰
We know he’s not going out with no fans. This is not the proper sendoff. He’ll be back.
He announced this a few months ago at Anaheim 1.
It was a pleasure watching Reed rip! 👍🏼👍🏼
“James hands down” was my favorite part
As a rider, James hands down. Makes sense because Ricky was the best at being a champion. He was consistent, tenacious and intelligent. James is the best to ever throw a leg over the bike but to be at that high level you sacrifice consistency and safety.
James the fastest for a lap. Ricky the fastest for a moto.
Andrew Rank for life
how about the guy in the back watching the screen
Andrew Rank well put
Nooooooo Chad Reed is and always a legend!❤
He had bad sportsmanship.
@@EarthWasHere No, he raced REAL motocross the way the sport started and was intended to be raced. Learn some history!
I'm in my 50s and have been watching Motocross and Supercross for, well a long time. It will be weird not seeing Chad on the track. Thanks for the memories!!! A true iron man in racing and all sports!
I'm 52 born 1968 I remember Johnny O'Mara, David Bailey, Jeff Ward, Ron Lechien, Guy Cooper, Rick Johnson, those were the days. I rode with Johnny O'Mara a few times back in 1983- 84 when we both lived in Simi Valley California, Kyle Lewis too👍
Unbelievable, he won with basically every generation of riders he rode against, what a legend
The Cal Ripken Jr. of Supercross. Not even the Chadapult could stop him. One of the scariest crashes of all time (thank God for a steep bank and soft dirt). A cross between McGrath in style and Dowd in determination.
legend!!
Not the end, just the beginning of a new phase of life for the 22...💪✊🙌
I'm a *McGrath* fan & *Tomac* fan, but *Reed* raced the best Era. Against *Carmichael, Stewart & the Ryan's* Along with others like *Pastrana & K-dub* Etc.
The sports wealthiest well deserving rider ever.
@@250txc he dont need pay check not like you.
Chad was a good guy when I got to talk to him in the Washougal pits when he was a 125 rising star.
Might be my fav rider, if not top 3 for sure.
My childhood is Chad Reed on blue and Ricky Carmichael on red racing against each other.
I'll never forget watching you swap right before that kicker and you flew 30+ feet in the air without your bike. You hit hard and then got right back up and kicked that bike back over and went off. I have nothing but respect for you and I wish you the best life with your family.
This may sound stupid but I ride Kawasaki and to see reed bent over crying and smacking that fucking beautiful KXF450 made me so happy, loved this guy whatever brand he was on though. Always brought a new and exciting feeling to the tracks, take care Speedy Reedy. The Moto community will always know your name🤟🏽🍻
Just wanted to add that Reedy was a lot faster than a lot of people remember. Looking back on the 2012 and 2014 seasons, he was riding at one of the highest levels of his career, battling consistently with guys like RV and Roczen at an age where most riders would’ve already been retired. Unfortunately, both those seasons were cut short with injuries. Also, some people don’t realize how competitive he was against RC when he first came up to the 250 two stroke class. He may have had a few seasons where JS7 had the edge in speed, but there were other times were Reed could keep up with (and beat) the best of them. Much respect to a guy I’ve been rooting for since I was a little kid.
He was my first favorite racer when I first got into supercross as a kid! Thank you chad!!!
Amazing career, not to many people can do what the did... cheers champ!!!!
You will be missed Chad! The most awesome moments for me was when you were the only one giving RV a run for his money! RV even stated that he was running out of his limits and was going to let you pass right before your, OHHHH Crap moment! Always a competitor and anyone that loves racing has to appreciate that! Thank You! God bless you in your next chapter.
This guys a fucking legend in the sport. He’s still out there getting holeshots and qualifying ahead of the young factory riders. People don’t really understand how incredible that is. Nothing but respect for this guy. Been watching his whole career and he’s battled some of the absolute best. He’s the last of a foregone era in racing you will never see again.
What a Class Act...Him and His Wife and family....wishing them the very best!!!
Dungey is back with KTM this summer, let’s see if anyone else jumps back on board!
One of the best who ever did it right there
Thanks for all the amazing battles throughout the years, now we get to watch you and your kids do it all over again fun fun fun
I never was a big fan, Carmichael and Stewart both had more "CLASS" as Champions .
#22 always cried like a baby. He cried most about lappers. Ironic that he was a lapDog for yrs and got to be a good lapper and kept out of the fast guys way.
Incredible career 22. Wishing you happiness and success in all your future endeavors.
To keep racing cause you love it made you even more of a fave
I respect Chad Reed, but I was not a fan until watching him get up and race after one of the biggest get-offs ever! Cheers to you mate!
You must be referring to the Chadapault!😂
Ya that was wild!!!
chad gets the press but ellie made it possible. Cant be easy to be supercross wife. Best future to you all.
Yo bro I really enjoyed watching you race over the years and hope all the best for you and your family in retirement a true legend of the sport 👍🏻👍🏻
This makes me so sad 😭
One of the greatest it will not be the same without the 22 out their love ya reed brappppppppp for life brotha
Yeah man!
He was the 1st rider I saw when my dad took me to supercross in Qualcomm Stadium. After 17 years of watching him idk if I'd be able to go without knowing he was the last generation rider I grew up idling and enjoying him race win or no win, it's a very sad year for me now.
They should I ld go easy out there Sunday and let Reed have a chance and not finish 10th
He is a way better guy than I knew when I watched him in the past / good man
You're a class act Chad. You made the glory days so much sweeter. My whole gang rooted for different riders. I was the RC guy, having ridden with him in Florida, My cousin was always backing you, and the battles you fought and your perseverance will never be forgotten. Mad respect for you and great respect for your Mrs for always being in your corner. Wish I could buy you a beer for what you've done for the sport. As an old guy, loved that you kept at it in a young man's game. I'll catch up to you someday, and I'll apologize now for the big hug that I'll give you. You made racing special.
About time
All the best..you left it all on the track!! I enjoyed watching you!!
I think I have watched this several times and it always makes me smile
What a legend. Battled and won races against all the greats. Much respect and good luck in your next journey.
That was real glad head his dreams come true. Definition of a warrior
Never been a fan and always considered Reed as having the best seat in the house for the Ricky and James show. But you have to respect his commitment, dedication, and desire to keep racing. I love the fact that he mentioned Ricky and James. That makes me feel like he has grown as a person. Thanks for being in the mix and making all those races that much more exciting. AUSSIE! AUSSIE! AUSSIE!
Remember seeing him ride in England at Foxhills in the mid 90s and thinking that boy is super quick but little did I know he would go on to be that good. What a rider 👌🏼
Your a inspiration Chad - thank you for riding!
I saw him race in Dallas back in 03
I’ll also note when I saw him in a race this year me and my brother couldn’t believe he was still in it, our interest started slowly fading after they got rid of 2 strokes
Certainly one of the greatest riders I’ve watched every weekend since McGrath. Tons of memories, fantastic races, wrecks and champions of all time. Love Chad Reed! Awesome career!
Man is iconic!. Saw his Dreams, conquered his Fears, all with Honesty, Grit, and a determination we all wish we had. Twist it for Fun now Chad, enjoy the Family. God Bless.
Chad is mentally strong. His wife knew him well and kept pushing him.
Make a grown man cry...the upmost respect for Chad forever in every way possible. This was a great video
All the best to a true legend. You made our sport that much more awesome Chad. You will certainly be missed 22!
Chad is my favorite the 1st time I met him was at Loretta Lynn's was parked right next to him and he had the big Yamaha rig and we were park on a down hill us on top him on bottom we had a old hotdog truck and and towed it with a old 70s camper and our Sewage house broke and it ran down the hill into his area my dad stopped it long before it got anywhere near the rig rip Dad and I will forever love CR and everything he's given to this sport it's really sad to see him go but we all know u can't do this forever and I respect his decision I just wish it wasn't during this whole covid thing much love to u and your fam 😢
Well that’s sad. Last legend left that I looked up to is out
we will miss you man! much love!
The goal of this video was emotion. They got it. Ive looked up to Chad my entire life since I was 10, its sad to see him go, but hes such a badass.
Chad you are a class act! You did it with style. You are a true champion. God bless you!!!
