Im a huge Hendrix listener, I enjoy his music and not many players can give me chills like he does, but this cover is simply brilliant. I enjoyed it so much. Amazing!
One of the best versions of hey joe I've listened to. I think it may be just me, but that swing beat, takes it out of the park. This guy is the proof that mind control over what you wanna attract is possible. I'm grateful that this guy is alive and doing what he does best :). For the people who thumbed down, lots of love and listen again.
@usmc1875 there are a lot of great things I could say about workmanship, craft, art, and talent here, but there is no "mind control over what you want to attract". Honestly it's practice, practice practice! "Look here brother Who you jivin' with that Cosmik Debris?"

Seeing a pentatonic lick show up in a Joscho performance is like seeing the math they taught you in elementary show up on some astrophysicist's chalkboard as part of an equation outlining the meaning of the universe. "They always TOLD me it would be practical when I grew up!"
Mason Stanford there's plenty of pentatonic licks here. People act like it's some freaking faux pas to play within a pentatonic scale from time to time. What was it Chet Atkins said about pentatonic scales?
It's hard to describe just how happy this music leaves me - such deep gratitude, such beautiful virtuosity...if we humans are capable of this, not all is lost!

Even if I chose to play this style, that doesn't mean I would have been successful. But I certainly find Stephans' playing to be amazing and entertaining.
A departure for sure but what a departure it was! I first heard the original in December 1966 and that song stills gives me chills. Hendrix's solo was an utter revelation that still inspires to this day. Thanks for keeping Jimi's music alive as it deserves to still be heard by a new younger generation.
I first saw Hendrix on TV on Top of the Pops in the UK with a group of friends - and we all went "Jesus! What the F*CK was that!" and were completely blown away. I saw him live in late 1967. By the way, the song was supposedly written by Billy Roberts in 1965, and the first recorded version was by the Leaves in 1965. ua-cam.com/video/PCZNFPaz1iw/v-deo.html&ab_channel=JeanPierre However there is a lot of controversy about the song's origins - see wikipedia.
There are more than a handful of guitarists around who are unique in their guitar play. It is OK if you assess this group as your personal favourite. But as many people have a different taste they will not agree with you!
2:00 nothing in the world is cooler as a bassist who looks as if he were sleep-playing… Fantastic cover. I like it better than the original and Hendrix means a lot to me.
L'adaptation la plus inventive que je connaisse de la célèbre chanson. Et qui reste en même temps fidèle à l'esprit de l'original. Reprise exceptionnelle.
What a fascinating take on Hey Joe done in the old Hot Jazz style. I was waiting for Stephan Grapelli to come on with his fiddle at any moment. Wonderful!
Say what you will, He's brilliant! Not only his voicing of the what should be known as the most famous bass/guitar line in rock and roll history, but his whole attitude, everything about his relationship with his guitar. Wow!
Incroyable dynamisme du jeu. Je suis un guitariste qui à force sait pas mal de trucs, mais comment les aligner avec autant d'inventivité, de naturel, que les grands guitaristes, c'est la question.
I'm not sure if this is an accurate statement, but is gypsy jazz the only "traditional" jazz style that has the guitarist bends their strings? By "traditional" I mean anything as old as the 20's but still before the fusion era of the 60's. I might be completely wrong though. I just find it interesting how some jazz purists don't believe in string bending, but I personally see no reason to avoid that style of technique.
