  • What we eat in a day. You'll probably be surprised. Yes it's raw vegan. But how much, when and what?
    You can eat less, have more energy, and your body, and mind, will perform more effectively…if you eat the right foods and apply the correct strategy. In the mornings, allow your body to get its energy from your stored fat. You can do this by exercising before eating, and drinking water or tea with no sugar. Periodic fasting is great for you.
    “You want your body to run off the fat”
    publications.nigms.nih.gov/in...
    The main type of fat we consume, triglycerides are especially suited for energy storage because they pack more than twice as much energy as carbohydrates or proteins.
    “When you wake up in the morning you just have your fat to work off of”.
    medicalxpress.com/news/2010-06...
    "When you exercise, after fasting, your adrenalin is high and your insulin is low," said Peter Hespel, a professor of exercise physiology at the University of Leuven in Belgium. "That ratio is favorable for your muscles to oxidize, break down, more fatty acids." Hespel said that people who exercise without having eaten burn more fat than they would if they had grabbed a bite beforehand.
    Cara on fasting: “It’s really important to give your body a break so that the cells in our bodies can repair themselves”.
    www.nhs.uk/Livewell/Healthyram...
    After a few days of the fast, higher levels of endorphins appear in the blood, making you more alert and giving an overall feeling of general mental wellbeing.
    Numerous studies have shown that eating less, fasting, can expand lifespan 30% when eating good nutritional food.
    www.medicinenet.com/fasting_di...
    Research on intermittent fasting demonstrates fasting can increase life span, improve how the brain works, and protect against disease; but most of those claims are based on research conducted in animals like rats and mice. Among high-quality human studies, intermittent fasting appears to improve stress resilience at a cellular level, resulting in fewer spikes and troughs in blood sugar, cortisol, and other markers of oxidative stress.

    thanks for my daily inspiration Markus and Cara!!! I was feeling so healthy by making a green drink every morning - but then put on approx 6 lbs!!! so now if I make one - I do not eat it til later and take it with me through the day...and when I come home I too make a big salad and that is what I eat - I have noticed that I eat way less than I used to - sometimes get cravings..but I have to just distract myself and of course they go away..old habits...I love you both!!! thank you for all you do xx

      You know? There is no separation from how we see others and how we experience ourselves. This is proved repeatedly by science and by great spiritual teachers. If I am tempted to be harsh, I cannot separate myself from my views of myself as such. I see her innocence and I am grateful for that. For in her innocence, which is BEYOND what the body's eyes see...is my OWN. xxoo

    Good advice if you live in a hot climate. However, if you lived in Northern Michigan or Northern Minnesota in the middle of winter, where it gets to be 10 degrees and freezing, the needs are a bit different. That's where I draw the line on raw food. Eating a cold salad after being out all day in freezing weather just does not cut it, and is unsatisfying. The salads turn into hot soups (tomato juice with coconut milk and sea salt served hot is awesome!) Adding some protein like pea protein powder mixed with almond milk 2-3 times a day, and cooking the apples with some prunes served hot with some cinnamon, the iced tea would turn into coffee with some almond milk and stevia. Come hot weather it's back to cold raw foods again. That works for us people in the cold, brutal North.

    • @MarkusRothkranz
      @MarkusRothkranz  7 років тому +17

      1. Who said raw food has to be cold? Half the recipes in our Uncookbook are warmed in a dehydrator. They only have a few ingredients and are super easy to make. www.HealthyCookbook.com 2. The biggest raw food community in the world is in Germany which has cold miserable weather. So many misconceptions and people looking for excuses to eat the comfort foods they are used to and addicted to. But thats exactly why we created the cookbook- so they can keep eating pizza, pasta, cake, chocolate mousse, garlic naan, creme brûlée, chicken soup etc etc etc. As long as the food is not heated above 118F 45C. And guess what temperature "normal" warmed food is when you eat it? 118F 45C! That's right. When it comes at a restaurant super hot, you have to wait a minute for it to cool down to a comfortable temp. Guess what that temp is? There are no excuses.

    • @gwenshin
      @gwenshin 7 років тому +1

      If it's warm, it would be assumed it's cooked. But you're saying it can be warm/hot and still maintain it's "rawness"? I can only do cold salads for so long when the temps dip below 20 degrees.

    Great video! You two have such a lovely vibe and it's refreshing to see such a natural and intuitive take on the vegan diet (especially with what's been promoted with the whole "smashing in the carbs" and eating beyond fullness, etc).
    Just to get a better idea of how you both do things, would you say your diet errs more on the low carb side? Also, you mentioned you eat half as much as you used to, so I was wondering approximately how many calories and what approximate macronutrient ratios you gravitate towards? I understand you don't track things, but if you could provide a rough estimate, that would be super helpful! I agree with what you said in your video and would love to see more videos on nutrition, recipes, and "what I eat in a day vlogs"! ♥

    I'm just excited by how much money im going to save on food. Question. I live in Pennsylvania! What do you suggest for getting through the winters? I loveeee greens and salads and avocados and oranges but what do you do when you want something warm? Is steamed squash a bad idea for transitioning? Love your videos !

    Exactly the simple information that I was looking for. Funny, because I am a huge fan of movies from the 1930s because of the people's amazing energy, but I never made the connection about the effects of eating less during the depression.... I call this time period an Era of Optimism

    Loved the ending, so cute! Markus and Cara, any tips on what to substitute for the morning coffee and also what's best to eat on night shifts (and when to eat?) to start off with? And Cara I lost my dad at 63, it's too young :'(. So sorry for your loss...xx

    I didn't hear you guys talk much about water. What's your take? What's the best in your opinion? Spring water? And how much do you try and drink in a day.
