  • Part two of Brushy goes flying in an 18 metre DG1000 at Balaklava Gliding Club. This second flight was so much fun! I got to take the controls of a Glider & even thermal it for the first time in 22 years. That's an insane amount of time since I've flown a glider.
It seems obvious to say I didn't film while I was in control, I don't have a go-pro. Only my phone. what an amazing experience & I'm glad to know that I can still fly & Thermal in a glider I've never flown before! For those that don't know, It's vastly different from flying an all metal glider like the Blanik or IS-28 (my favourite when growing up)
The aerobatics were fun & reminded me why I love aviation so much. There is nothing else in this world like it. Enjoy the video. Sorry about the wind noise (it was hot today) & for those of you who bother to read all this, go flying!
A huge thank you to Balaklava Gliding Club & Ian, my flight instructor for the day, I will be back.

@02:43 with my Instructor flying, I stopped the video just before he gave me control, my fist time flying a Glider in 22 years.. We were at 2, 200 Feet AGL. @02:45 (After I flew for 10 minutes or thereabouts) we were at 3,400 Feet AGL. The fun happened after that. Gliding is amazing! It is the absolute basic & best knlowledge one will ever learn in Aviation, hands down.

Practising the various manoeuvres is exactly what we all need to do more. You made it look easy and it appeared to be relaxed and most importantly fun. Flying the DG also helps

Yes, it is the basics of Avitation for sure. I have often questioned this to many GA folk. Gliding will teach you everything about energy management no matter the Aircraft. I was not PIC during the manouvers as I was filming, but I did do all my areobatic trining when I was flying regularly out of Bond Springs, NT That was in All metal Gliders being the IS-28 & the trusty old Blanik. Been too damn long, I need more! The only other Glass Glider I flew was the Concrete Swan ha ha.

Things I don't say in this video, my gliding experience mostly came from flying Blanik's & IS-28's Out of Bond Springs, NT. Altitude minimum's for Aerobatic's were much higher due to the landscape there, hence some of my comments during the flight. I had the pleasure to fly this Glider, first time in 22 years, none of it on film. I hope they are flying tomorrow because I have the time to do this again. Only two days left to this year that is 2023.

Thanks mate, First time I got my Butt in a Glider in 22 years, the second flight I flew for about 15 mins myself & caught a good thermal over the salt flat up to 4,500' Damn I miss that Thrill! The Old boy looked lke he had fun in CT too

For all of you Aviation & Car lovers out there how much fun is getting sideways? A Side-Slip in a Glider is essentially the same principal as Drifting in a Car. Adverse-yaw, Reverse-Mosses, call it what you want, it's fun to experience. I love Aviation, I want more of this, always. What do you want? For me, there is nothing else that can top the feelings & emotion of Flight.

He did fly well! Only my second flight in a "Glass Glider" I got to fly & Thermal etc for 10 mins or so, not recorded as I was flying ha ha. He said to me this was the highest he'd been in a long time (I climbed us up to 4,500') or so before we had some fun ha ha.

First time I've flown in one, I found the seating position a bit odd but not uncomfortable although I did feel like my sight (Outlook) was a bit compromised. For my first flight in 22 years one does not complain! It was Fanbloody tastic!

Great little video! I am familiar with the HASSLE check ( we add another S) but what is the big check? In the UK we use CBSIFTBEC. Great height on the launch!

Cheers! CHAOTIC is a Pre takeoff checklist. Controls, Harness, Airbrakes, Outside, Trim, Instruments & Canopy. FUST is Pre Landing. Flaps, Undercarrige, Speed & Trim.

@@brushitoff503 ah I see, we use Controls, Ballast ( ie weight of pilots and a check for lead to we are sure we are within limits) Straps, Instruments, Flaps (set for take off or “none”) Trim ( to make sure the aircraft is trimmed in case of a cable break) Breaks, Eventuality ( remind ourselves what we are going to do should the launch fail!) and Canopy.
Quite a different set of checks.
      Stay safe and fly high!

What are the instruments on the dashboard?

    • @brushitoff503
      @brushitoff503  Рік тому

Left side is the "Speedo" in a sense, measured in Knots (about double Kilometers per hour) On the right is the Altitude (Tells you height above the ground) Below & Centre is a fancy Variometer that does many things & Below & to the left of that is an Analoge version of the Vario, but's that all it does. (A Vario tells you when you're in sinking or rising air) Gliders use the rising air currents (Thermals) To gain Altitude & fly. If you've never flown in one I suggest you do. Nothing else compares. It's freaking awesome!

Ha ha, I wasn't flying that portion, when I did take over I flew straight to the Salt Flats & thermalled up to 4,500' Once again first time flying in 22 years, I still got it, took a while to get used to the site picture & the DG but not long at all. Gliding is freaking awesome! Best thing I've ever expierenced hands down!
