You deserve that coffee! When our girls were home, we always had Friday night pizza, and we all loved it. Pizza, movie, and the only time they were allowed a small amount of soda. Now we do it for the grands when they're here. My wasteful splurge is Swiffers! I made my own, reusable, but I still buy/prefer Swiffers.

My baby got horrible diaper rash when we changed from cloth to disposable so I had to make a choice. Since I was traveling a lot to my Mom’s farm to help out I decided to stick to disposable and to save her skin.

It's good to be "real" with the balance of making everything yourself. I waste money on so many things, but I am also proud of what I am doing... so each person needs to find the balance that works good for them!

I buy a 5 gallon container of dish soap from azure that lasts a year or more but we keep a bottle of dawn foaming soap on the counter for the extra dirty dishes or hands.

I love a fancy coffee myself! I had one yesterday with my book club friends! Delicious and SO worth the splurge!! I do have a "condition" that I must be sharing coffee time with friends or family though, it makes me sit still and focus on someone else while I sip my cup of indulgence!

I think your “compromises” make a lot of sense! Especially cloth vs disposable diapers. I had a cloth diaper service, back in the day, until I went back to work. The babysitter just didn’t understand the need for more frequent chances and I’d end up healing a diaper rash over the weekend only to have the same problem the next week. Just caved and went to disposable, and problem solved.

I don't think buying the assortment of chips is a waste of money. I know that's expensive, but being able to get meals for traveling and being away from home is much less expensive than having to stop somewhere and buy meals or snacks every time. My biggest "waste" of money would be buying books. Even at the thrift store or rummage sales. I get told "go to the library " or "they'll just take up space" Driving to the library to check the books out, then driving back to return the books is a waste of gas for me. I don't drive much. I also splurge on coffee when I do get out. 😊 Another favorite waste is the fabric softeners that smell so good. I agree with the disposable diapers, too. Dry at night means less laundry to wash. ❤❤❤❤❤

Laura…while I never buy coffee out because I love my own coffee I don’t think a “Calgon” moment for Mom is ever a waste. I often buy individual bagged chips and it’s just Jack and me in the house. Jack likes variety and I am not much on most chips. Jack has to have baked snacks so he gets the variety boxes of baked chips. I commend you on cloth diapering but my son was constantly broke out in diaper rash so I always used disposables and never looked back. Dawn dish soap is a must in this house too because I also have no dishwasher and greasy pots and pans need Dawn…period. Besides I never know when I might need to bathe a duck🤭. I do make all my own meals including pizza only because Jack has so many health issues requiring Nash and Dash diet guidelines and on the rare occasion we do veer off the “reservation” it’s never worth it so I pack our eats when we are going to be gone during meal time. I don’t use “shop for me” services, shop in stores I have to have a card for and don’t do grocery pick ups or deliveries so my big splurge is thrifting at Habitat for Humanity restores. Sometimes weekly if I have to drive Hunny to dialysis but we are retired, it’s just the two of us and it’s something I truly enjoy. I also am a cross-stitcher and it’s a pricy hobby but it’s a good pastime while sitting in waiting rooms for all Hunny’s appts. And I have 3 adorable kitty’s that I dearly love and I’m constantly buying them toys. I just can’t help myself but the boys bring me great joy on my darkest days when Jack has long difficult medical episodes. Yes, we can justify everything but life is difficult enough without denying ourselves a few pleasantries. So I find that saving money is a good thing but my mental health tops frugality in some instances. Thanks for sharing, good luck during this hectic time juggling your schedules but I truly enjoyed this visit!!!:):):)

It’s important to do something for yourself. Once or two cups of coffee out is not a bad thing . Can’t spend our whole life not spending any extra money.
There is just the two of us now. But back in the day when I had one son and did foster care and respite care full time having lots of kids to drag all over ( I felt like a full time mom) I bought disposable diapers for the foster baby and I bought snacks in small bags. Why? The mess off kids eating them too fast gone! Leaving empty bags. Gripping because they can’t have a certain thing.
I’ve always bought dawn because it works great. I’ve tried other dish soap and always come back to dawn.
Now days with a busy schedule disposable diapers are ok sometimes. Especially at night so mom and dad can sleep. Mom and Dad need their rest as much as anyone else.
With fibromyalgia and not sleeping good and the horrible back pain from bone spurs and narrowing spin I wind up very tired by 1pm. Plus I’m up at 3 am every day helping Bruce get off to work. He has a blown knee and bad hips horrible and needs help. Can’t bend all the way down like he used to. Needs hip and knee replacement. But he has no insurance. He’s and owner operator for a company at Kleen harbors. Buying health insurance is outrageous he said. Bruce is still looking into finding health insurance that does not cost a fortune. ( good luck with that)!
So he deals with bad hips and blown knee.
Stinks for some people to get older.
On Saturday when he works the extra day we get Chinese take out. Don’t have to cook! Yea.! ❤
Like you were out in the sticks.
Bruce drives 50 miles one way to work. He drive a truck hauling nasty waste for a company called Kleen harbors. They Disposes of nasty waste ( chemicals).
He owns a truck and uses their trailer.
Then I get the fun part paper work once a month . The paperwork is what I hate. But has to be done.
    Great video.

I always buy dawn and always will too. I buy myself a hot chocolate on the way to church on Sunday. My little treat.🙂 Grocery day I get a small cheeseburger through the drive thru. Shopping, loading and unloading wears me out so im over it by the time its done and dont want to fix lunch. I think we need things like this on a regular basis to look forward to and for our mental health.

I have been making your Laundry soap for years. Recently I had a bottle of gain…I remember you said your husband like a goid smell… I mixed a small amount of gain into my homemade laundry soap abs it worked great to give a nice scent and also boosts the “detergent” factor as I only wash in cold water.

There needs to be a whole series of videos on our relationship with money and how our faith plays into it. My husband and I worked for years and are now retired and we can pay our bills and have savings so we are in better shape than a lot of people, but we both came from big families and know what it is like to do without. We also know that Christians should have enough to be able to help another in need if necessary. I literally stood for a few minutes in the dish detergent aisle a couple shopping trips ago deciding whether or not to buy the dawn ultra deluxe blue detergent because it is supposed to be the BEST grease cutter and supplement to so many homemade cleaners, aware that there is a store that sells regular detergent for two dollars a bottle. STILL, the thought of being wasteful, extravagant etc. was real. St. Paul was nudging me (he knew how to live with nothing and with a lot and still live for God), and I decided to rejoice in the ability to be able to afford it and move on, but really, this is a thing for a lot of us. Tried homemade detergent and may still make some, but could never get the whiteness that store bought gives so went back to buying, but buy pods to be more environmentally friendly. Love an occasional breakfast out. Also bought good winter coats over the last couple years and they have been such a blessing in cold weather. I did buy them at half price though, but still expensive, more than I would normally spend on a coat.

It’s an interesting discussion! Just because we can doesn’t mean we should…but you also shouldn’t feel guilty and agonize over every purchase…I don’t think God wants that either. It’s a balance!

This reminds me of the book; The Tightwad Gazette by Amy Dyz____. Her overall view is that by living frugally in most things, it's possible to have something of your choice... I'm glad you can choose a couple little ways to reduce some of the work of a large family.

We do takeout pizza once a month for my sanity break. I did cloth diapers when my kids were little I had 3 in cloth all at the same time but like you I bought disposables for night and for baby sitters. I buy all free and clear laundry soap because I am allergic to everything and have extremely sensitive skin. I buy myself walmart clearly american peach flavored water its my favorite carbonated drink and I figured I gave up soda and I don't drink coffee so I buy a few 1 ltr. bottles a week as a treat for myself and I buy cascade complete for my dishwasher I have a bosch dishwasher and some dishwasher tabs don't work well and I never have problems with cascade complete and its worth it for me since I do dishes everyday. I like to make my life a little easier when I can because my husband is in late stage dementia and I am his caregiver and I also have a autic son thats nonverbal that keeps me busy along wirh 2 other teenagers. I still think it is strange how you eat chips with a meal. Here in the Nederlands we eat chips as a snack, and I think most young childeren in the Netherlands get maybe twice a week a little chips while watching a movie or so. ( my experience is, as they earn there own money they buy a bag and eat it all in once ......multiple times a week...... unfortunately....)
