  • There are some new styles and designs of camp chairs now available and here are a selection of three of them. Light, compact, functional and pretty cool in design.
They are ideal for any kind of outdoor activity, not only the social camping and watching fireworks etc, but also cyclists, bushcrafters and campers generally who want a decent sitting position while they take in the view or enjoy a brew.
The Helinox Chair One and the Alite designs the Mayfly and Monarch will soon be seen on a campsite near you!
Produced with Newtek Tricaster, JVC Cameras and Rode Microphones

I have had an elite monarch for several years now and love it. I also have had the Helinox for 2 years. For me the monarch wins out in the comfort stakes. The fact that it has only 2 legs lets you slide down in the seat for a full recline, great if you can elevate your feet. However, I would not recommend it for someone with limited mobility, as its low to the ground. The Helinox is in a fixed position, so although it is far from uncomfortable, this position is your sitting position. It is higher off the floor and stays upright when not sat in. It's too bulky and heavy for me to put in my pack so it gets used when canoe or car camping.

I have both the Helinox and Alite MANTIS, which are quite similar. I prefer the Helinox because it sits higher off the ground and is thus easier to get out of. I like the Mantis because the seat cushion is deeper and it supports your legs when they're stretched out better. If they could raise the legs of the Mantis to bring the seat higher by a few inches, it'd be the clear winner, but I'll be selling it and keeping the Helinox. I wish Helinox would deepen the seat cushion, though.

If only the floor wasn't wet all the time... Helinox for me. Thanks for the review.

I've had 2 Mayfly chairs fail on me, both after very little use. The glue that holds the backrest rod inserts that go into the foot (ball) joints fails and the inserts end up pushed further into the rod. This leaves none going into the foot (ball) joint for stability and then that's that. I want to love this chair in the worst way but what good is something that will fail on you in the back country?

I think they stopped exporting to the UK a good few years back. You’ll have to buy direct from the US

Too bad Alite is no longer in business. Have the Mayfly and also Helinox Chair Zero. I'm a folding chair nut.

Grand Trunk sells them now! They seem more well constructed now, though I still have my original Monarch from 2010 working great even with some ember holes and dust in the frame after years of use and abuse!
They're so on sale right now in many places it appears (old colors at least)
