Don't get caught up with the backpacking arms race.
I know with all the gear channels these days it's hard to not feel like you're missing out. But when it's a marginal difference and you've already paid a lot of money for what is still a great product.. don't bother!

I am still using my Thermarest sling that my sleeping pad goes into. It is probably 25 years old and still doing just fine. I like that I can use it in my tent or outside. These chairs don’t work inside a tent to play cards or read while it is raining. I don’t mind sitting on the ground, plus it has insulation under my bum, these don’t. I’ll keep rocking the old school way.

Funny.. as I have been reading about this "Moonlite Elite" version for months as I've been using the original Moonlite chair for years and absolutely love it!! So just returned from REI (really!) and brought my current Moonlite chair to compare them side by side.... First of all the "Elite" is narrower with a slightly shorter back and the tubing is smaller... leaving my sitting in the "Elite" experience not as confrontable as the regular Moonlite at all!... BTW im 6' 210 Lbs.. Your example of the "Snapped" pole concerns me for longevity vs the regular as the poles are way more robust..... Soooo I'm sticking with what I already have.. to save weight I don't pack the case.. Just my $.02

I tried both at REI myself to see how the elite compared to the original moonlite chair. I have to agree that I prefer the original, but I do like that they made a lighter version for those that prefer something like that. I might have liked the elite better if I was skinnier, but I think for now, I'm willing to stick with a heavier chair since that's more comfortable for me. Plus, I don't feel like it's as likely to break on me.

Have used the Helinox Chair Zero for years. LOVE IT. The downside is when on soft ground (sand, mud, etc) it can sink in. Never used the pad for it. I camped with it many times in Anza Borrego (San Diego). It's super lightweight and comfy. This Nero Moonlite Elite looks good though.

I wanted to love this chair so badly, but I was sadly disappointed in the Elite. My Chair Zero and the regular Moonlite are far more comfortable to me…😢
The thing is, like Dan, I initially felt like the Elite was more comfortable than the Chair Zero, but then I spent hours sitting in them both while working and got uncomfortable far quicker in the Elite, unfortunately.
The Elite seems more well built and looks awesome. It is also more stable. I love the case idea too. The lounge toggle seems cool in theory, but I found that it doesn’t lock very well and slowly leans back over time when in upright mode. This wouldn’t be a big deal if the back of the chair didn’t dig into my shoulder blades so much.
Overall, it’s a cool chair, but I still think the Chair Zero takes the crown 👑

Just like what @randalwilliams stated. The new Moonlite Elite chair is narrower than the original Moonlite chair, both in the back and the seat. I have both chairs and when sitting down in the Elite. The chair squeezes my legs and the two poles will dig into my back. I really wanted to love the new Elite chair and was hoping to save some weight for backcountry hikes. Unfortunately, the new Elite is not comfortable and am thinking about returning it. I'm 5' 10' and about 215lbs. If you're overweight, don't get this chair. It's really made for thinner/petite individuals. If you're not worried about the weight of the chair. I strongly recommend the original Moonlite chair. It's very comfortable for heavy set people and cost less. Time to lose weight. :/

I loved the original REI Flexlite, which was mesh, before they changed it to solid fabric with slits (which like the Helinox's, make your butt stick out, ugh, and your keys fall out) but this looks mighty fine.
And it's not entirely heavier, since you have the option to leave the anti-sink matt behind. It you add Helinox's matt, the total is competitive.
The adjustability is appealing. When i wear out my Flexlite, or want to give a chair as a gift, there's now a mesh option.
    Thanks!

The problem has always been the inherent instability. Not only front to back but even more so side to side. When the base area is smaller than the cargo area it is unstable.

Very cool chair but I’m too pleasantly plump and it digs into my back more than the regular moonlite. I also like the larger rubber feet on the regular without having to make the platform dirty.

There is also Sling Light. Rigid frame so it does not fold up into a water bottle sized package. SL does offer better head support. SL is a lower chair.

I think a company only accesses the bajillion dollars you earlier referenced when they do something novel: either a miraculous way to pack the comfort/features of a 3-5 lb chair into a 1 lb package or, more likely, achieve the ~$100 price point. This Nemo doesn't do that. It's basically a me-too product. It will capture some of the Helinox market, but not a bunch. It would appear that this new Nemo chair is very similar, if not every so slightly more comfortable, than the Helinox.
It's good to have options and people will choose Nemo over Helinox in smaller quantities. But, when all things are about the same, people probably are going to just stick with the tried-and-true Helinox. Most people won't have a great reason to switch. If you want to really grab the market, there has to be something significant ... true differentiation. Me-too features at the same price will never bring you that massive market share. Don't need an MBA to know that.

The reclining on the Nemo models is a HUGE differentiator -- they are not the same at all. I tried the Nemos and the Helinox both and it was no contest for me: I'm getting the Nemo Moonlight Elite.

Also, the fact that it is bolted in on the frame at the bottom, makes it more sturdy, hence why I think it will not break.

As low as these chairs sit, I'm not sold that it's more comfortable than just sitting on a foam pad on the ground. The Nemo chair definitely looks nice though, can see how it would be nice if you spend a lot of time at camp, and it's a lot better designed than the helinox chair

I have the previous generation/version of the Moonlite chair (with the straps not strings) and although a bit heavier, it’s ….soooo much more comfortable than Helinox. Also the NEMO frame won’t crack like your Helinox. & Lifetime Warranty. Sooo….. enjoy!

Mine arrived yesterday (citron as well!), and I immediately tested it, compared to the old moonlite. It is a bit shorter, but for the weight I can deal with it. Seats very similar, and it will be going with me this saturday on the bikepacking test run from Appleton to Green Bay to confirm its proper place in my kit, before the first official trip of the year. The rest of my new gear for this year arrived today, so that is all good timing!

If we look at it like-for-like, the chair zero with mat is 84g heavier than the nemo moonlight with their mat. Factor in the cost savings (approx $5 usd cheaper for the nemo) between the two chairs and having to buy a mat for the chair zero, it would seem to show a clear winner on specs alone. That being said, I camp for comfort and use the helinox zero high back with a comfort penalty of 672g compared with the chair zero at 531g and the nemo moonlight at 617g. These are all packed weights.

A request from the grayhairs - add an "easy to get out of" section to your chair reviews 😂 I dunno, the beefed up suspension on Helinox still has me leaning in that direction. Let's see a follow up review in a year. Also, what's with the soiled Fruit of the Loom briefs color? Eeww.

For an ultralight chair in the 1lb range, I just can't justify paying $180. The REI Flexlite Air regularly gets discounted down to ~$65 and that is a happy medium for me. You could go even cheaper for those no name knockoff ultralight chairs for $20-30, but those are twice as heavy.

Been using a Helonix Zero for several years and it’s still going strong. Great chair but if I was in the market for a new one, I’d give the Nemo a shot. At $180, I can’t afford to get one until my Zero dies.

Helinox does sell a similar ground pad. I always bring it for support in the mud. But it's also good to throw your gloves or other small items on that you use around the fire.

180$😂. I have a very similar chair that is about 4 yrs old. Cost about 35$. Has a nice ground mat and phone/drink pocket on both sides. But it's not adjustable and probably heavier.
Most of my camping is either motorcycle or kayak, so weight isn't as important as size.

One of those items that cost $10-15 to make, profit 15 times, companies love these types of items.
Doesn’t make sense for thru hiking, and for overnighters where weight isn’t much of a concern, you can get chairs that weigh 1kg but 10 times more comfortable, durable & cheaper.
