I want an exact number of how many laptops have turned into waste because of directly soldered CPUs. A socket is a bit more bulky, but present ones can be improved to get slimmer, and then you have a reasonable option to get the laptop fixed.
@@davidlguerr And intel as the asshole company it is implemented arbitrary CPU restrictions for chipsets like the HM 70 which could easily handle core I processors but wasn't allowed to ... They implemented a 30 minute timer just to piss off people who wanted to upgrade ...
You won't have enough pressure from the cooler to keep a cpu in an LGA laptop socket unless you use a proper retention arm mechanism which is huge. LGA by design has a 10cm by 10cm ish area around the socket where you are not permitted to place any components. pins like old ryzen and such are too thick and long. This is why you only see socketed CPUs and mxm GPUs in very large laptops from say, Alienware.
I've seen a couple of this exact model and this is all they ever do. Keyboard lights up, no video, nothing. I've spent a lot of time working on these boards and never figured out the problem. Reflashed bios etc. I believe the CPU itself dies.
@@chikeretochukwu1999 I don't believe this isn't an accurate way to diagnose a CPU fault as those lines can often be low impedance when the CPU is off.
I had the some issues after having the thermal paste replaced and not powering on. What I found out is that sometimes you need to reset the battery by inserting a metal rod in the small button that is located in the bottom of the laptop. Although in this case it can be a permanent CPU damage situation
mine had 2060 just like this one and shorted completely. had it for 2 years, went to 2 repair shops both said CPU damage. Lesson learned is buy a cooling pad + better thermal paste application and don't game on high temps. mine bursted at 90+ celcius. GG
I have the same Predator 300 17inch 2070 super model as well for about 3 years now. I have in the past few months began experiencing issues with the CPU. I believe it’s a overheating issue. Haven’t figured out completely why or how to fix. While playing games my laptop blue screens and has to be manually reset. Laptop works if I have a fan on it and it’s elevated off the table. Very unfortunate that CPU failing seems to be a common issue with this model

Same issue here. Its not BIOS either. The trick is try to push Esc key many times while turning it on. The problem is it will boot but it will hang during OS Windows loading you can even go to BIOS setup. Hope it helps in your troubleshooting.
I had this problem with my old laptop, the problem with that whas the GPU whas death. to fix that you need to go to safe mode disable the dedicated GPU and go bak to normal mode. Then it boot normaly but only without a working dedicated GPU.
You may not get a conclusive result. You can get 2ohm and CPU is dead, and you can have 2ohm on a working CPU. Unless it is 0ohm you can't be sure the CPU is dead.

Hi Alex, as i have told you for another type of laptop, but i don't know if the question can apply also in schematics with DR Mos, when a power transistor especially in the cpu supply fails, one can ask himself if it is working in couple or more with other transistors / dr mos, if after a test the short comes back on one of them or more, then one can consider changing all the couple or all the dr mos feeding the CPU... this is resulted to be resolutive in many cases... i have never repaired a dr mos pc, nor i'm a professional, i would like to know your point of view.... bye from Italy... i respect and follow you...
Same here, I've tried numerous "amtech" flux on amazon, None of them clean right, that and they smell awful, its best to get the right stuff from reputable people
Have a question for you Alex....The Asus laptops that you fix with the Mos-fet issues, do they hold up? Are there any returns? I´m not underestimating your work in any way but still wonder if they are coming back. I`m thinking if there is some basic faults in the structure of the motherboards?
Hello, you repaired so many laptops, could you please guide me: what is your opinion about best gaming laptop motherboard? which brand is the most durable components and good design for their motherboards? If you want to mention a gaming laptop brand, which brand and model would be your personal recommendation? All gaming laptops stop working as soon as they receive very little amount of static electricity on the motherboard and short circuits happen almost all the time. which brand you think has the best components and design on the motherboard that can survive shorts?
I’m interested to know when a mosfet dies what the knock-on damage is likely to be ... I’m guessing some manufacturers design in protection and others don’t. I noted the fuse hadn’t blown. Hi After replacing the Acer Predator Helios 300 Laptop LCD Panel, the Charging Light does not come on at all. There is no power to the laptop. At first the blue light came on and then unfortunately it went off. Many people on the Acer Forums experienced this problem after replacing the screen. Most of those who experienced this problem changed the LCD screen without removing the battery. Could this situation have caused a short circuit on the motherboard?
I don't know about acer but I had a familiar problem with the fans on a hp laptop. After I took out the battery and pushed the power button for like 10 seconds, it resetet the bios and after that started normally at least.
hello, i have a question a colleague gave me a laptop acer m52287 the laptop is not working he tried to charge the laptop with a trotinet charger, i think it has a 48 volt charger is there any salvage laptop? thank you
Hi I have a laptop the same and the customer has replaced the screen so they didn't take the battery out after that laptop did not turn on I checked it has no 5 or 3 volts and replaced the charging BQ7480 but it is still the same any I idea please let me know
I just sent a Predator Helios 300 sent to a tech for some upgrades and repaste ... He later message me saying it fried and didn't power back on after reassembly.
There is a 50% chance of repair if a VRM died. The package has 2 mosfets. one to ground and one to 12 V. They switch alternating to get an average of 1.4 or whatever volts. If the mosfet to ground fails first voltage goes to 0 and no harm is done. If the mosfet to 12 V fails then the CPU gets 12 V and dies and the other mosfet in the package will die too. When you get it for repair, both are gone so you can't tell which one died first. Depending on which mosfet died first the laptop is either fixable or a no-fix. The odds are 50%. If you are lucky only a capacitor shorted, then the odds are very good because they connect to ground.
Helios 300 from 2019 i guess ... I have the same and i have dismantle it the same for repasting purpose The customer could clean its fan more often it is dirty ...
In this case I will remove BIOS battery and I will turn the computer ON and OFF. Conect battery again and it will reset BIOS. If the computer is turning on of course.
You should try again a couple times before giving up. Could be BIOS or Windows "re establishing" itself? Sometimes requires several boot attempts, depending upon the last state it was in when it failed.
Nah, things like bios reset or memory training would auto-restart when they're done, and anything to do with windows would still show a post screen first. If it turns off without posting, it's a critical hardware error (CPU, GPU, RAM) because the SMC and power delivery is working (charging light, keyboard light, power on sequence). It's very likely that the drMOS failure fried the CPU, so there's no point to troubleshoot more. I'm sure he tried to power it on a few times with the same result.
This one is very interresting for me because I have the same laptop as the customer, The only difference is that my laptop is a newer version of this one. Why don't the manufacturers have a circuit in place to protect the CPU (and similar for the GPU)?
Even a fuse after the mosfets lol
Because you could then repair your property, and would not be forced to buy another "newer model with more features"
It is not cost effective to add protections everywhere. So manufacturers try to save any cent they can.
