Nice video!! That chip is 3v3_ALW and 5v_ALW that always go to chipset. I got a Dell Precision 2 days ago with almost the same problem. Client said that laptop stopped working and now has some coil whine - that was true, and the coil whine was from 3v3 line that was almost shorted, like 20-25 ohms because of that small chip, which provide 3v3_ALW to chipset! Anyway, the chipset was wire inside :))))
For that model here in North America: Motherboard: LA-F991P Chipset: N17E-G1-A1 If I were the owner, I would think like when I go to a Las Vegas casino; Here you have all the “round corks” that I have left (my rest). Another way to say it: my last bet of the night: it would be the chipset. PS: Of course I want Sorin to do that delicate work ... All the best.
Hello Sorin! Perhaps it is time to get a BGA soldering station with pre-heater and start with CPU/ Chipset replacements?! Not many repairmen actually want to deal with these repairs, but there is always a way to acquire new skills. Soldering station costs around 500 euro, and you already have expensive tools like Thermal camera, battery analizer etc. This would be a nice addition to your workplace!
He has done chipsets before but soldering wasn't the problem. It was to "gamble" on the part not working. Apparently replacement cpus and chipsets all come from donor boards.
@@mikeh6286 HI, Yep, I have seen Sorin's attempts to replace chipset and the CPU. CPU was bent in one case and chipset was faulty in another case. My point is, if there is a problem with getting a working CPU or chipset, get a complete donor motherboard and de-solder/solder CPU or chipset yourself. To do this job correctly infrared soldering station is required as well as the reballing. I can hardly believe one can correctly replace such a big component with just the hot air and without reballing. Even if components (CPU or chipset) are 100% working, there is still a huge chance to fail the replacement anyway, if soldering station/ reballing is not used. This is why most technicians will not even attempt to do this job. its risky and time consuming.
I believe there was a short on the main line you kept the the probes for long time that was a long beep i don't think the capacitor was getting charged when you first tested it

I always tell my customers; if you have the choice between a gaming desktop and a laptop, NEVER choose the laptop unless you absolutely must have the portability. If you want something to do work on the train, coffee shop etc, get a cheap laptop and leave the gaming desktop at home.
But the thing that I dont understand is why professional laptop doesnt have good configuration like gaming laptop? In my case, I didnt have choice because it was difficult to find pro laptop who can do video editing. Only gaming laptop can do correctly the job with correct budget.
Hi Sorin needs your valuable help. After replacing the Acer Predator Helios 300 Laptop LCD Panel, the Charging Light does not come on at all. There is no power to the laptop. At first the blue light came on and then unfortunately it went off. Many people on the Acer Forums experienced this problem after replacing the screen. Most of those who experienced this problem changed the LCD screen without removing the battery. Could this situation have caused a short circuit on the motherboard?
they do but in the split mili or so seconds that it takes the circuit to react, some of the power might go to the cpu, gpu or pch and thats enough to kill them
Hello, I have Acer predator Helios 300 it is 7 months old , it has problem where when I turn on the PC the keyboard light is turning on but the screen is not turning on, what is problem?
shorted chipset are pretty much dead so reflow is pointless. The better solution is to replace with working chipset but goodluck finding one with working condition
Also replacing it is a big gamble, with so much heat the board can even bend one way or another which will make it uneven surface and won't make contact on the balls

Please do something about the beeper in the meter. Your microphone seems to focus on it and it's about 3x louder than your voice at times and I can't make out what you're saying. Love your videos otherwise! :)
I absolutely HATE my predator helios 300. I live abroad and bought my predator from amazon. So warranty is seemingly impossible for me. The greatest issue i have with this laptop is the battery. Plugged in and within minutes battery stops charging and its only been 9-10 months since i bought this. Scouring through the internet for solution and its the same thing for most forums. Battery issue. Not gonna buy acer again.

9 out of 10 of these acer gaming laptop i cant fix due to shorted cpu, gpu and southbridge. Almost always the same with them
thats the reason why they are the cheapest gaming laptops - they use the cheapest components and obviously get damaged the most

On gaming laptops usually CPU or GPU got dameged, so very likely that you can find a spare working chipset.
Prime candidate for a motherboard swap!
Not for the prices of a used board, like $600 usd
