When I shop for spinners and spoons, all the colors seem to work on me. The fish, not so much but me, I bite every time haha.

I used a orange one when i was a kid, so thats my go-to choice, fond memories fishing with my dad
My go to for trout is always a black or brown rooster tail. That being said, I also have had good success with two spoons, a Cleo and a Kastmaster. Most of my biggest trout have been on the Kastmaster!

Blue and silver kastmaster is my all time favorite lure. That lure has caught me everything from trout, bass, steelhead and salmon to surf perch and ling cod from the surf/rocks.

Yellow five of diamonds whether it’s streams, rivers or ponds or lakes. I found they catch all species; bass, pike, trout. If fish are there, they usually go for it!

Exactly what I was going to say. Thomas buoyant spoons can be fished in shallow water and fish level. Heavy spoons hang ass down

Italian Troutaholic I agree. Need to be more in depth about technique and reading water, not a gear run down every time. A lot of people want to know a lot more about many subjects that are not talked about.

In my opinion if you get out there and fish in rivers for trout you will observe what needs to be done. Of course I see tons of people at trout streams fishing wrong all the time. Standing on a rock over a deep pool just fishing the flat water.

Tried fishing a cast master the first time the other week. Hooked a blue gil in the vent... was going for steelhead with a size 2 hook.
I've been using a Buoyant red/gold spoon from Thomas lures, for a lot of years, with tremendous results. It's always the first lure I use when hitting a fresh hole

For spoons I like the cast masters (the micro bluegill pattern) is a favorite. I also like the Thomas Lures. Recently I have taken interest to the Luhr Jensen brand and that has me replacing all the trebles out with single hooks in all of my spoons.
I just got my Celilo yesterday and am looking forward to tomorrow, to go test it out! I put the Okuma Ceymar C-10 ultralight on it.

Im in the process right now. I'm from south texas and I've been in Colorado for a few weeks, I still haven't landed a trout but I had a couple hookups for the first time yesterday so im on the right track lol.
The only thing I can get them to hit on so far is spoons
Blue and silver is my go to, use it for salmon and steelhead.
I caught my very first Steelhead on a blue and silver Little Cleo 3/4 oz spoon. So it just might be my favorite.

Love your videos. Been thinking about getting back into trout fishing, which I haven't done since I was a kid. You mention a mono-filament bumper on that 10lb braided line. How long should that be? It looks like you might tie on about 3ft or so? How much do you need in order to make sure the braided stuff doesn't spook the trout? I have yet to catch a fish on anything other than a nightcrawler or powerbait. Hopefully this year I can try some of these techniques out and land one. Question though, when it comes to sunglasses will any polarized do? Or do certain sunglasses perform better than others?

Take that same setup with the kastmaster spoon on it to a saltwater dock late august early sept when the snappers (baby bluefish) are runnin. They smash em and the light rod makes it tons of fun
My go to spoon for small stream trout here in PA is a 1/10 ounce Thomas Colorado spoon in gold and silver and copper and gold. 💰
Gold kastmaster, I have caught a lot of big trout in rivers, then Thomas gold spoon.
I love red and white Daredevils because when I was like 4 fishing with my gramma I insisted on using 1 and caught like a 4 pound rainbow in a stream, he talked about that for decades later.

*but I did stop at the store to grab a few 1/4 oz Kastmasters, and those made all the difference for these faster moving waters.
fishing with spoon is quite fun actually haha i usually use spoons on lakes where i need to cast a long way out. favourite weight is 10g -15g. can cast a long way haha

Black has been my best catches. White/Silver would be the next, Bright colors after that.
Plain Silver with a white bucktail works everywhere for everything up here in NJ. The bigger, the better, I've found.
What has always worked for me is casting down stream and using a very slow retrieve, just letting the spoon bounce off the bottom. Even letting it sit on the bottom for a couple of seconds. When not fly fishing my set up is a one price 4.5 foot ultralight Ugly Stik, Daiwa BG10, 10-15 lb Braid, and 1/2 oz Stee-Lee in a red and white daredevil pattern.
I love your videos. I watch them and listen to your pod casts more than the radio. Since you mentioned walleye, would you guys ever make walleye vids? I grew up catching them almost exclusively on rapalas. How do you catch them?
My favorite spoons are silver or gold castmasters and the chartreuse tiger striped Luhr-Jenson crocodile spoon.

My favourite spoons are: silver and florescent orange Deadly Dick (aka Canadian kastmaster) and the Luhr-Jensen Super Duper - rainbow trout pattern.

I've caught tons of trout and kokanees on the bright orange Kastmaster. Hardly ever fails! The silver Kastmaster is nice as well.

How would you feel about a barrel swivel between the braid and monofilament? I’m over monofilament memory on small trout reels. Especially with rooster tails. So I’m going to try braid next

I usually use either a gold or silver (silver being my favorite) williams wobbler spoon on all the rivers and streams I fish in Nova Scotia and I never fish lakes unless it's the mouth of the river lol
This will be the year I teach my 11 year old to use one. Hes been using a spinner for the last three years for both trout and mackerel lol. My oldest (Girl- 21) mostly uses worms and a drop shot, no bobber of course. My other children aren't at all into the sport. I think we need more chicks into fishing

Greens, oranges, and pinks are the colors i get a lot of strikes on with my spoons, so i tend to aim for combos of colors in that... mixed with some half color/half metal color, depends on sun amount.

hi, how do you manage if fishing in a huge river like 7 feet deep and around 100 feet large, with huge stream ? they gifted me some eppinger 1 oz spoon but i would like to use them.
Silver and Gold spoons Brother. I believe most seasoned fishermen would select these more often than other color. I will say though that I do prefer the silver and blue Castmasters over most other spoons. My personal fav is a blue BlueFox with either a gold or silver spinner. Sometimes I'll use a yellow jacket color RoosterTail.

Spoons can be fished effectively in spill ways, allowing the current to take the lure and slowly jigging it back. Will also mimic wounded or weakend prey
It would be great if you would use high-visibility line when you're giving tutorials on how to fish the river. It's impossible to see your line. Even if you don't aim to Cath fish, a quick 5 minutes with a large high vis line would make it 10x easier to see what you're doing.
I found that the inverse of blue and silver, is that red and gold Kastmaster. If the fish aren't biting those a bright green or yellow spoon in murky water helps with a little bit of sent applied to the back as it attracts by smell as well as bright colors. Watched another video on the eye of a trout, as it has limited view because of the shape the fish iris. If you know there are some bigger fish get out that red and white as red helps add some aggression to the fishes natural behavior.

Thats why i use it in big bodies of water or moving water...slow water like he was fishing i usually drop shot first.
I usually tie my barrel swivel onto the braid then use a 1 to 2 foot lead of flourocarbon and tie my spoon to the leader using a non slip loop knot.
I like to change out the dull large hooks , with smaller stinger hooks on my trout lures , I definitely catch a lot more fish those hits turn into Fish hooked
Silver on sunny days gold or chartreuse on cloudy or rainy days also gold an chartreuse in stained water.

Sometimes a fish will hit a spoon or lure coming up. I was using a swim jig with a creyfish trailer used creyfish proline and a bass crushed it. The bass crushed it as it came up because the bass thought its food was getter away.

so sometimes you can see the fish come up and almost hit the spoon or kastmaster, then they dart away... would you suggest a slightly smaller hook than comes stock on them?
Ive has good luck with the stock hooks. I also switch to siwash sometimes.
