I’ve listened to this song about five times tonight and I’m feeling all sorts of things. So many memories of those times. I don’t remember ever seeing the video so I’m blown away by that too now. The actor was just beautiful, lonely and in agony and perfectly reflected the song. The whole thing gives me the shivers in a good way. A perfect song, just stunning.
Around the same time marilyn Manson came known on the uk. I remember MTV changed his name to marilyn mansun because of Charles Manson. I cant remember if these guys were called Manson and had similar issues
No Way ... A Beast of its own ... There was nothing out there to compare ... Each Album had a concept ... Start with Track 1 and play tru ... loved them ...
this song still flows me, wherever i go, feels new to me as usual, even though it has been 25 years when i was only 11. this song really resonated me in many ways, mostly about life, thank you much sir draper for this brilliantly genius song.
This song reminds me of Something that make me cry. This song is very special. I feel like as if this song is somehow going to disappear. Anyway, this is Beautiful. Its beautiful thing that this incredible band did exist in this dirty world...
Best 90s song ! Good memories on this song/album. A period in which I was lost and then met my future wife and now again my ex wife .. I'm lost again so I return to this song :)
First time I saw this video i' ve fallen in love with the song...it gave me the thrills...i thought nothing else was like them, Mansun...a beautiful song like a precious gem...and still they are unique
It's a unique, haunting song. Wonder if consideration has ever been given to using it on a movie soundtrack? It conjures up images for me of a lonely desolate prairie with storm clouds above, stretching endlessly towards the horizon...
This song makes me think of my late Mum. She had Agoraphobia and a Doctor told her it was “a fear of wide open spaces”. That was the 1970’s and this song came out twenty years later. Strangely, this band passed me by in the 1990’s and now I can appreciate what they produced back then.
I dont care this song has always been badass , especially in the winter when you're alone on the roof smoking a number with the headphones on. Quite the experience.
Just heard this on the radio. Made me want to come and watch the video. Glad I came. Still one of my favourite 90s videos and one of the last great songs with a video that tells a proper story.
Well, woke up this morning, took the dog for a walk, had this in my head so put it into UA-cam on a Perfecto remix. Thought back to the days gone by. Had a great day Lay down in bed this evening, wife playing with the dog in the living room, me now in bed. Put the original on. Damn. Too frickin awesome. Great job guys. It has to be at least 5 years since this song has been with me. Cryin. ✌️
First time I heard this was Oakenfold's remix in like... 1999? maybe 2000. LOVE the remix and never really pursued the original. Glad I did though. This song is fire.
This was one of those mp3s I had in the late 90s/early 00s. Don't know how I found it, but it's forever etched in my mind as a cathartic experience which immensely helped me survive some tough late teenage years.
This song reminds me of the first time I moved out of home at 18 and the place I moved to. Even the apartment I lived in. It was on a compilation CD and I listened to this song on repeat. Just rediscovered it and it's on repeat again ❤️ Also, anyone else think the singer is beautiful and has the most amazing voice? Can't be just me. Anyway, really love this song ❤️❤️❤️
I was absolutely obsessed with this cd in 7th grade (97). Just randomly thought of it last night when I woke up out of nowhere at 3am and now I’m re-discovering it all over again. So, so underrated- especially here in the States. This video is incredible.
I heard this song back on BBC Radio 1 on Sirius XM Radio back in 2007, when I was 12. For some odd reason, the title of the song nor the artist name popped up. I had it recorded on DVR in case I can make out the lyrics someday, but the data got erased. For 12 years, I had this song stuck in my mind. I had some of the lyrics but apparently they weren't completely correct, so google search didn't help. I was about to give up on this song, until I decided to listen to the Brit pop playlist on Spotify last year. Not liking none of the music there, I was about to exit, but I decided to do one last skip... That's when the 12 year search was over! I finally calmed down the musical tapeworm I've had since I was 12 years old.

Even their logo resembles some old Marilyn Manson logos, yet their music is nothing like his. I would be willing to bet that is why they never became a success in the US. I remember seeing their cd in the BMG Music Service catalog and/or Columbia House, and I remember hearing this song on the radio, but I have not heard the album, and did not remember which song I had heard by them on the radio, or what it sounded like, until I just looked this up tonite to remember. I like the song, but if anyone came up to me, or anyone else I know, and asked them "Do you like Mansun?" NO ONE would think you meant this band. EVERYONE would think you meant Marilyn Manson, and I'm willing to bet that none of them would have ever heard of this band. I'm not saying they're not good and shouldn't be heard of, but how can you hope to have any identity as a band and have people know who the f*** you are, when you have a band name that sounds exactly like the last name of another artist, whom people refer to by just his last name? Honestly, if I didn't know better and I saw the album cover to Attack of the Grey Lantern, I'd think it was some 3rd rate Marilyn Manson bootleg cd that was so poorly done that they spelled Manson wrong and just left the Marilyn out altogether. The flowers look gothic enough. Nothing about it would make it look out of place if it were mixed in with Marilyn Manson's albums, other than the spelling of the name. Even if you go back to when this band was FORMED, that was 1995, and Marilyn Manson was already around and well known enough. This album didn't come out until 1997, and Marilyn Manson was a household name by that time! I just have to say, I'm sorry, but WTF were they thinking? UPDATE: Wow this is even dumber than I thought. From Wikipedia: "The band were initially called Grey Lantern, after Draper's DC Comics influenced alter ego which he created to help overcome his nervousness on stage,[13] but soon changed their name to "Manson", after the cult leader Charles Manson. They were forced to change the spelling due to threatened legal action from the Charles Manson Estate.[16] The band gave several false accounts of this at the time, one being that they were named after The Verve B-side "A Man Called Sun",[17] and that "Manson" was simply a spelling mistake which accidentally went through to production. It was later reported that Charles Manson had started spelling his name with a "u", to which Draper joked that they should sue him in return.[18]" That is incredibly brazen and stupid. "Oh, I think I'll name my band Manson, even though there's already a band called Marilyn Manson, and even though his fans refer to him as 'Manson.'" I'm surprised Marilyn Manson didn't also sue him. I'm also very surprised that the record label would let them go with that name. Very bad decision, in terms of marketing. I am certain this is the reason no one knows of this band today. I can't feel too sorry for them now that I know that they literally chose the same name, only without the Marilyn.
Conheci esta musica ainda nao existia UA-cam hoje passados quase 20 anos me lembrei de pesquisar nem queria acreditar encontrei e me faz recuar esse tempo, essa guitarra quase me mata, lindo demais
Just discovered this wonderful song! I’m 63 and never heard it before! Love the key changes 😃
Cool listen to legacy by mansun, in fact listen to the album 👌 , you won't be disappointed, enjoy
Good taste 👍
The song doesn't change key.
Thanks!
Welcome to the sphere
When you hear this amazing record all over again whilst on lockdown.
Yup.
♥️❤️
and again
Just discovered this song. I was going through old papers and found a note from myself written on a 2002 newspaper that said to look for this mp3.
Still a criminally underrated band. Attack of the Grey Lantern was a fuckin grade A classic.
Oooh, il have to have a listen!
My fav Mansun album by a long way
Agreed, mate. I still listen to it regularly, a fantastic album.
When times were good before internet and the elites .
Glad i grew up to music like this 😁👌

Great song. Deserves so many more viewings.
So glad I was around in the late 90s to catch this band!
I'm back! This video and song makes me so incredibly happy. x
The guy in this video was in grange hill in the early 90’s wasn’t he?🤔
what a tune 🤩
I love it when memories attach themselves to a certain song. This song instantly takes me back to when I was 16.

I can’t believe I forgot about this. It’s amazing
I discovered and I really like this song!....
Heard this today on the radio, man those were the days! I love Mansun, think I need to dust off my CDs!
I loved Paul Draper's voice. Attack of the grey lantern was in constant repeat! Such an underrated band!
Duran Duran meets Nirvana, this was a great album👍🏽
Thanks
How can you compare Duran Duran to nirvana, Duran Duran was better
No Way ... A Beast of its own ... There was nothing out there to compare ... Each Album had a concept ... Start with Track 1 and play tru ... loved them ...
@@Mooreytheblade no comparison, just an amalgamation of the two, that's all.
@@Somac-xl6tu it had the grunge of Nirvana and the musical fluidity and skill of Duran Duran.
I only was a child in the 90s but this song has been part of my life
2022, absolutely flawless perfection. I'm thankful to know it back then and now.
Found the album finally at a record store and been binging on mansun
A great song, brilliantly sung, fantastic beat and outstanding arrangement.
