Oooo, imagine a show where the entire competition is blind. The judges judge based on the art and eliminate based on the art. Only the winner is unveiled to them in the end!
Yeah i don’t know about you, but in earlier seasons it seemed like they just voted out good artists cuz they didn’t like ‘em. Maybe the producers already have an idea of who is gonna be in top three, so the order in which the others go doesn’t matter much anyway, but I swear some of the decisions for who gets voted out seemed so poorly explained or unjust. Anyway, to your point, blind judging is one way to eliminate the favoritism, or at least the appearance of it.
I like tattoos, but everything on this show is so overblown that it's just ridiculous. I subbed to Paramount+ to watch this, and after two days of figuring out that it was mostly dumb shit and SDE, I unsubbed.
I love it how judges say Jesse's tattoo has anatomy issues. How? It's something what does not even exist! Like, an eagle is an existing animal. But Jesse's tattoo is something straight up out of his mind, just like children's imagination. You can't say: "Hey, it has anatomy issues and that doesn't make sense!" Well, let me tell you, the whole purpose of that tattoo is to make it no sense. It's his own imagination from something what doesn't exist on this planet... And putting such stuff together is art. Jesse knows how art works, if you like it or not. He is special. He is like still a little child from the inside, and those people are mainly the best people to talk with.

To me Jesse's octo-bunny-fish was so much better executed and way more creative than this old eagle I've seen hundreds of times before. I mean, just look at that damn tooth. The shading on this thing is absolutely flawless, his understanding of light and dark is chef's kiss, and so are the details (like the reflection in those eyes. I mean, what?).
Anthony is one of my favorite contestants to ever be on the show, but there's no way that comic book character was the best tattoo of the day. It was underwhelming. The character didn't look great, it looked really dark, the wings looked like he didn't even try, and it just doesn't look like a comic book illustration. I have no idea what the judges see in it. Anyway, I still love Anthony as a tattoo artist and the rest of his tattoos were like 10x better than this one, I just get so confused by the judges sometimes.
I do agree. I liked his a lot because it did remind me of how some Batman/Frank Miller comics were shaded, but Sausage’s was my favorite. It was so undeniably comic book, and it looked a lot like the canvas. Anthony’s was cool, but I wouldn’t automatically think comic book if I saw it in person
I liked the tattoo, but it didn't look very comic-y to me in the style of it. It was still a great drawing, just not *quite* fitting the bill. Sausage should have won that.

Every time I watch one of these I just imagine the producers being like, "Ok, now everyone shake their heads like they're super disgusted at the what the judges just said, and then loudly complain about being given a tough challenge in a reality competition show."
Worse - they grab reactions from different things and mush them all together. But also, Anthony at around 4:16 sort of proves that it's not just a case of "We have to tattoo?!!?!" and it's more so about what their competitors are skilled in. A reasonable reaction imo

Strange how Sausage didnt win comic, His eagle was miles behind Jesse's rabit fish artistry , and clean finale tattoo was clear winner. Antony's didnt look finished. Hes a great tattooist but didnt deserve to make semi final, never mind win it !

The issue with Anthonys superhero is that medics are not supposed to have weapons. Just like anyone with a red cross, they are supposed to be NON-combattants.

I've been a tattoo artist for 15 years. I have never once said " I don't tattoo this crap on people". Even if I hate the subject matter. I specifically hate religious tattoos and script. However I do that shit, and take that money happily.
Jesse drew something that didn’t exist so nothing to compare to. Anthony drew an eagle with almost every detail exact from memory without reference. Did Jesses look better yes but the skill that it took to design the eagle from memory is crazy

If a tattoo artist can't draw, I don't see them as artists. Many of the contests on this show really can't draw (at least, under pressure). It makes me concerned about the majority of people who have tattoo shops. My niece (a talented artist) draws all my tats and I only go to shops that do not bitch about it.

The crystal flower wasn't that pretty . And the "water color" looked like a bloody mess. Better colors would have made all the difference
