What's the secret to getting loud? Make pressure, because sound is pressure, then keep the pressure in.
Going a little further: Pressure is force per unit area, so you need force to make pressure. Your force comes from the motor assembly. You can either use huge drivers with more massive motors, or use multiple smaller drivers (10", 12") so that motors of practical size can give you lots of force. Use the largest voice coil you can get away with, without taking away too much from the amount of magnetic material that can be crammed into the motor, and make sure that the steel in the motor assembly is approaching magnetic saturation near the gap but not fully saturated elsewhere. Don't bother with shorting rings of the conventional type, because shorting rings decrease sensitivity just a bit in exchange for lower distortion. Instead, use T-shaped pole pieces with an undercut and symmetrical extensions above and below the gap. Couple that force to the piston area using the lightest moving structure possible, which means paper cones reinforced with synthetic fibers, or carbon fiber, and lightweight voice coils using heat-resistant materials like aluminum windings and aluminum coil formers. Use foam surrounds instead of rubber, because foam is lighter per unit volume and is also more stable under high excursion, and longevity is not the key concern. Keep the suspension stiff enough to avoid coil rocking and keep the Fs up where you want it; lower Fs leads to lower sensitivity, all else equal. Use the smallest foam roll that will support the necessary cone excursion, since less than 1/2 of the area of the roll is usable as Sd (piston area), so it takes away from the piston area. This is all simple engineering.

How do you get loud. Build your box double what the manufacturer says, tune to the peak frequency of the vehicle, get as much cone area possible fired towards the mic, deaden everything and seal every thing that lets air through. Then get a meter and check everything that affects db’s. I learned I gained a .1 dB with my vents closed, gained another .1 by having my glove box full of box stuffing. It’s just little stuff that gets that last .2-.3 dB.

Sometimes knowledge does more then money... When i got into competing ... I had a guy that was mentoring me.. he made me buy a 10 dolllar mdf board.. cut it placed it in front of my woofers and i went up a db... Then he told me to get a certain alternator went up 2 dbs... he was showing me how to get loud with what you have..

I don't think you understand just how loud 181dB is. Most of the SPL constraints are due to the vehicle itself. Too much flex means too much SPL loss.
Not to mention the fact that he was testing his meter, not running comp.

I don't understand how you get 157 db with a wall of speakers and giant amps when back in the late 90s my buddy hit 150 with 2 solo baric round 15s and a kicker zr 1000?...I obviously haven't been in the audio game in over 20 years 😂🤣just figured they'd be hitting 200 by now😂
It is easy to reach 150db, going from that figure things are multiplied mainly the power. One guy got 161db with a single 15 inch woofer sundown audio using 16kwatts of power.

2002ZRX1200R I know I’m late to the party on this reply… But you have no idea how loud 168 dB is! I have seen vehicles that had to use concrete in the doors and bulletproof glass to get that kind of score. I have personally sat in several 160 DB plus vehicles and it is physically painful and if you stayed in there too long it would probably cause physical damage to your body. Tell you what… Have a friend stand next to you With a double barrel shotgun about a foot away from your ear and pull the trigger and then you might get an idea on how loud that van really is
