It was never much of anything to begin with. It was just a sugarcane farming area. Lake Okeechobee overflowed its banks a few times and deep sixed hundreds of people around that area back in like the 1920s through the 1960s. That's one of the things that has reduced its population and kept it small.
Thanks for showing us what an abandoned building looks like in detail seemingly forever. What is the point of the ominous music? Is this a haunted hospital? Seriously friend, get a life.
I don't understand why they spent so much time at the abandoned hosp. What was there to see? Only room after room of debris and graffiti. As for going to the second floor; did they think it was going to look any better than the first? Never been there, after seeing this video wouldn't want to go there, especially with the crime rate and it looking like there's absolutely nothing happening there. I must admit the streets looked clean and grass mowed. Too bad the state can't do more for this town.
Why would they spend so much time at the abandoned hospital? Please, allow me to clarify; It's because this community / town needs finishing off. With NAFTA and the TPP, Big Sugar is moving out of Florida. There are "better places" with slave wages and no environmental protection over seas. The sugar industry has been choking out Lake Okeechobee with algee blooms for decades. Wealthy locals are good and sick of it. 1,000 people a day move into Florida, many are retirees flush with cash. Many of theses same retirees do NOT care to live too close to the coast with it's traffic, crime and hurricanes!!! Instead, it would be nice to live by a giant inland fresh water lake, in a big new house inside a gated community, with a 36 hole golf course ...I think you're getting the picture. It is not as well known but a number of working class folks are moving out of Florida and California for more affordable living, or just to survive. Just listen to Jose, on Florida Hood Vlogs. Born and raised in Pahokee, it's completely heartbreaking to see the condition of the city. I left in 1992 for a better life! My first job was at the hospital and I would of never imagined that that would become the reality of Everglades Memorial Hospital. Lord please restore Pahokee to some kind of glory.

*Strange Fact:* About 1 in every 30 residents is a registered s-x offender (the average town in America has about 1 registered offender per 2500 people). A ministry group set up a community called Miracle Village nearby, which provides rehabilitation and housing for offenders. It became so popular that there are rarely openings, so offenders hoping to get in began to move and settle in the closest community to Miracle Village, which is Pahokee.
Was a world class bass fishing resort in the 1920s, hence the Royal palm lined streets. The Prince theater from the 1930s was purchased a few years ago, the owner began to restore it and the town council said no. There's an abandoned circus ride area near the levee.
A retardedly small town on lake okechobee, just north of belle glade it’s like the worst city “south of lake okechobee” it’s like 90% project housing or low income..... but they have a “Barack Obama blvd” so that explains a lot. Did I mention this is like the smallest city ever and it’s on the biggest lake in fl...how is that even possible
I dunno bout that comment ... I don’t think there’s anything like this in Massachusetts ... some podunk towns maybe come close I guess but a barren wasteland like this not really ... Mass has some dangerous cities but they are cities ... this looks like a post apocalyptic wasteland town.
Mom's Basement David Hunt They didn’t show the good things about my city they didn’t show the in learner world class elementary middle and high school if you graduate with in on your certificate you can go to any college you want they didn’t show the beautiful house on the railroad street and they didn’t show the restaurants I drive 20min for because I live in the city next to Pahokee (Belle Glade) and I go to school there we also have a marina where you can go fishing or you can just look at the water
I just want to get a big ass loan, hire dozens of people who are skilled laborers and rebuild the whole place into something beneficial for the community.
it isnt bad. i pass through it every few weeks and its a great small town. Hes just showing the bad buildings that were like that and every small town has at least one abandoned building.
@ Julie Jennings Maybe it's because of the horrendous violent crime statistics? I don't think I'd take a walk around at night there. In fact, I don't think I'd walk around anytime there!!
Wow...the darker side of Florida! I have just recently moved to this town to recover from Cancer and it is filled with the most joyful, honest welcoming and sweet people I have ever come across. Yes the infrastructure is in bad shape and it is a town in sever economic decline but that is overshadowed by the peacefulness of the area, and the warmth and history of the people I've met. White, Black, Latin, Middle East...etc., it makes no matter, they open their hearts willfully to their neighbors old and new. This is a place where people see only you...not your house, your car, your dress, your possessions. Be you rich or poor, you are first a neighbor. This is a community that comes together and helps each other...old values are maintained while welcoming in the modern world for the benefit of it's citizens. It's an old town and it wants to stay that way because, the alternative isn't always better. There is love and joy here. Sure there are issues....but what city or town doesn't have them. As far as it being the next real estate boom....you don't know much about the Muck that made this farming community that it is. Visit again and visit with the people....rather than the bricks and bees.
It's cool how people were nice for you, to me i have a completely different experience, the people of florida are the most hateful arrogant greedy heartless close-minded people i have meet.
A great case in point of how small, seemingly dead towns can in fact be wonderful places... Sopchoppy, FL (I feel like I spelled that wrong... :s) Anyway... Sopchoppy is up in the Panhandle near Tallahasee. Their school moved to Medart due to lack of population... Yes, it is THAT small. The actual town itself consists of around 9-10 businesses all grouped together in what would normally be considered the downtown district... Except that's pretty much all there IS to Sopchoppy and I don't think it has changed significantly since around 1950. All this said, however, you will never meet a friendlier group of folks in your life. My great aunt and one of my first cousins used to live there (sadly, both have since passed away) and I have not only had great childhood memories of the town, going there in recent years have simply affirmed my wonderful experiences. It's quiet, yes... And there aren't too many young folks around due to it being VERY economically depressed... But... When I need a break and want to just relax, a trip to Sopchoppy does the trick EVERY time! 😊
I lived in Pahokee for about 2 months I'm not even going to lie it was kind of peaceful people are very friendly it is a little rough but other than that it's a good place and Im from Lake Worth
This one had a lot of artwork. It makes me wonder -- who is J-O-N-E-S? How is their "outlet" spray-painting their name in an abandoned hospital? If JONES wrote their name in 8-foot-tall letters on the outside, would the police stop them? Wouldn't it be ironic if THAT was the only public investment the building received? Who does JONES expect to see their name? Are they alive? Is Bright Sun Films the only reason JONES's name is spoken?

No Colin this is because of a failed economic policy & endemic racism in this country. The area is basically nothing but poor people, condemned to live their loves in these conditions, unless they can play a sport, mainly football. There are at least 15 current players on an NFL roster from that one town.
Nah this town is a dump and has a big child molester population. But yeah terrible job actually showing Pahokee, like seriously, just roaming a abandoned building
@@vincentvega6932 Actually that's how I found out about this place.I was reading on Newsbreak they released one into that area.Any reason why they're putting them in this area?
Kelly G I'm from Detroit, Downtown is beautiful and has made a huge comeback. Yeah some outside cities from downtown are bad but most major cities have bad areas surrounding them.
I lived in Jacksonville for about 10 years, and during that time I had visited many places in Florida. Honestly, after St. Augustine I saw a town like this every 25-50 miles. People don’t realize that Florida is not all beaches and vacation time. However Florida projects this image and lets towns like this fall into despair.
castletriglav , yes I read a article about it in the mid-1980's. On of the first towns to have the problem. They claimed they didn't know how people were getting it. There was a misquito theory.
IT WAS NOT A ROOSTER,,,,,it was thescreaming banchee Lola. Great vid, showing how America has diminished. In the day people lived in make shift cabins to survive, now look what has happened, thanks for the upload
As a Floridian, I absolutely agree. Pahokee is part of my commute to work, and every time I drive past this, I feel like crying. It's like driving through a mini Gary, Indiana and is what many people think of when thinking "gross parts of Florida".
Pahokee isn't all run-down hospitals, there are some amazing trails by the lake! Places get abandoned all the time, but the state of Florida is putting a lot of effort into that area making it a nice spot for bird watching, hiking and biking. I had a great time stopping thru there on my way from Melbourne to Miami.
You should rename this video to "tour of an abandoned hospital" considering it makes up 3/ 4 of the video. Not to much else about why it's the worse town.
10 years ago my father owned the only supermarket that provided jobs and groceries to pahokee. after we sold the supermarket and left pahokee started to crumble.
I am from the muck I was born in this hospital raise in Belle glade as a child and moved to pahokee and lived there for 8 years before leaving. A lot of great peoples that supports one another. Talented and gifted good folks. Yes it's poor not many opportunities but the city hasn't always been this way. Belle glade is about 11 minutes away and has more shopping spots and other things but has a higher crime rate. Pahokee need people's who are willing to invest in the town to build it back up. I do not ever want to live there cause it is nothing to do very depressing place. a lot of church gathering is what people here do the most.
I’m from pahokee and y’all got life messed up if you think this the worse place in Florida. Yes, it’s a small town and not much there but don’t get it twisted living here taught me a lot and it a tight community with normal community problems. The main issue is that we don’t get the funding needed to create opportunities. So don’t sit there in criticize if you not going to help better it.
The buildings are in bad shape now, but Pahokee is really, in terms of location, not bad at all. Super nice climate, right on Lake Okeechobee, and only 35-40 miles from West Palm Beach or Jupiter. I bet real estate is an absolute bargain right now, and you can build or rebuild quite cheaply, especially if you DIY. This place has a lot of potential.
You are right-when an area becomes desirable (and affluent people start buying property); all of a sudden, things happen-roads get fixed, services improve, etc. this is exactly what happened in the South End of Boston-since about 1960, the area was in decline..abandoned buildings, trash filled streets, heavy crime and drug dealing. You could buy a 3 story brownstone building for $50,000 (now worth over $2 million).. The transformation was amazing.
I doubt the residents pay them and I doubt they are high at all since it is almost all section 8 housing and the landlords are no where near this ghetto town!!
areibu Miami yes of course! but Orlando nah man they've a few Hood areas in Central Fla where it gets bad at but South Florida has the worst Ghettos in Florida period Miami-Dade n Palm Beach County it's not even close.
Lamont Adams I live in Orlando and went to Miami for the first time yesterday and you’re right it is one HUGE ghetto it’s insane how it is. Orlando has little ones here and there but Miami is another world.
@@jerminator0688 that's cuz Orlando is a nobody and Miami is a somebody, and that attracts the good flies and the bad flies. That's what happens when your city is as popular as Miami you're never going to get good people coming through your city. That's called reality
Hal Vil it simply boils down to population. Higher population=more poverty. ESPECIALLY considering how expensive Miami is. It’s built on glitz, glamour and money. The more of that there is, the harder it is on the other side of the street. Plus, Miami has three times the population. Those people have to be housed somewhere. And lastly, it is a big immigration city. Haitians, Cubans, etc. They come here looking for a better life and although they may live in poverty here it’s leaps and bounds better than poverty where they are from. It’s like that in ANY big city with a large population. New York, Chicago, Atlanta, the list goes on. As Orlando’s population rises (it’s happening) so too will the poverty. Will it ever be as bad as Miami, maybe not, only time will tell. Not anything to necessarily be proud of, that’s for sure.
Would you like to be poor? Its not a good place to be because of what poverty does to people. Drugs, gangs, violence, starvation, etc are all undesirable.
Went through there last week, I thought I was going to break the front axle out from under my truck. The roads are actually collapsing by 4-6 inches in areas. I could go about 20 mph max. The sad part is, it could be a great retirement community being it sits on the Lake Okeechobee.
Can't do it... Burning sugar cane fields every year.... Maybe if we stop being such dics to Cuba we can get our sugar from there and retire Florida to a vacation paradise.
I like this sort of video but I would like more details. I like the voice over parts better than the quiet parts. I just think there is too much dead air to keep my attention.
kingofallcrypto I’m from St Louis brother. Literally the worst, most dilapidated, most working class city in the entire country. Don’t talk to me like I’m some New York yuppie.
kingofallcrypto Come to STL and take a look. Don’t go too far away from downtown if you know what’s good for ya though😬. There aren’t ANY yuppies in this city. We’re all working class, we’re all a little rough, and we’re all more proud of where we come from than any other place in the country. Also don’t bring politics into this, we don’t have time for that where I’m from. Both sides have failed to deliver for us so we’ve given up on politicians and adopted a mentality where everyone helps each other.
TeddyBear Friend I remember heading back to west palm area at 2am once coming through belle glade from the west coast, after what I witnessed while at one traffic light I treated the next red light like a 4 way stop lol.
TeddyBear Friend I didn't know that Pahokee existed until I watched this video. I didn't know that Belle Glade existed until you mentioned it. How big is the population? Is it a small town?
I'm from here! Our town was once a lovely place of black owned businesses and homes. After the storm of '28 the pretty much kept people from rebuilding the city up to it's former glory...The soil is very fertile ( hence the moniker " The Muck" ) corporations only care about the cash corps there ...not the people
I LOVE your COMMENT Vonshaun! My town is a lovely place too of white owned businesses and homes and the soil is very fertile and the people are very rich and beautiful too :)! Some people come here from other places, they're only interested in the wealth and not the people or the culture. You racist.

This dick head just labeled the town abandoned without even trying to engage with the people I’m from there and in 14mins he only covered a small portion of the town
Barry Hazlehurst im from pahokee and i was born in that hospital and its about 3 homeless people that everyone knows since i was born in 96. They are on drugs and thats why they are homeless. This is all the worst parts and non of the beautiful parts. No one will just attack them for no reason, only because the few outside white people who do come there do things exactly like this video, judge, get scared and leave and call it horrible and also never come back and help a town recover from all the hurricanes that have destroyed most of it
I'm from Boston so I know homeless people. Homeless on the street are mostly harmless because they know its a public way and they have no expectation of privacy. However homeless hiding in a secluded spot ie abandon building could get aggressive because then they get territorial, also if they feel cornered or trapped they could get aggressive. So it's a legitimate concern under these conditions. Just like an animal because we are all animals.
I would like to know who threaten you? I have been to Pahoke several time and I have never been threatened or followed. Please be respectful of the people that live in that town. They are just trying to make it like everyone else.

This town was robust with life 30 years ago. It wasn’t the best place in the world, but the people are good hearted people, and we are all one Muck family. US Sugar used to bring in thousands of migrants to work the cane every year, when the process was streamlined using machines, the excess migrants had no jobs, and the people with money slowly left for larger communities in the Eastern part of PBC.
Ms. Jocelyn those field jobs still exist and they still don’t pay anything. The muck is still robust with life in fact better than ever monetarily speaking. Also many people of the city now work those machines that automated everything. We’re still good in the muck this video was just a waste of everyone’s time unfortunately. @Renaye Brown
I spent some time in pahokee as a kid. I had some good times on the lake. The local Highschool football coach was an awesome man that would allow the players to come hangout at his house where he had a pool table and other fun activities.
you're a fucking idiot, cities all over America have abandonment, it's not some Detroit thing, go fuck yourself. Detroit is a big city, this is a small fucking town.
Rapture582 we know but Detroit is the worst of them, it's the only city in the us to declare bankruptcy and had a felon as a mayor, we all know every other city sucks but Detroit has the most problems so it's the whipping boy, at least it's apparently getting better
keonisan pine hills and the city of orlando are right next to each other ..it’s like a border line where the drugdealing and. Crime and then there’s the beautiful city of orlando
You could have gone into a little more detail on the history of the town and what lead to the downfall. Overall not the production and research I typically see on this channel.
I agree I was hoping for more footage and background of the town. Maybe a few interviews with locals. I would have loved to see some footage of the people that tried to chase them out. But I'm Monday-morning-quarterbacking. It was probably scary. Maybe the local library, if there was one, might have some knowledge of what went wrong here.
As for the downfall I will just leave this here; circa 2000 census: The racial makeup of the city was 25.21% White, 56.06% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.50% Asian, 15.20% from other races, and 2.92% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 29.46%
Florida native here who used to visit Pahokee for work. It's truly a desolate and hopeless place. I've never felt scared for my life working before having to visit some of the housing projects there. These people are desperate and poor. And in a state with as much money as Florida that is a bad combination. It's a ghost town that doesn't know it's dead yet.
@ Big Surge bro this is my home town and for a person who is not from PAHOKEE you will never understand it we been making it so far so what else can you racist throw at us I was born and raised there yea all of us may not have a 100,000 house or car I bet we make the best out of what we have so don't get it twisted bro you and all the others on here with your remarks thinking its a joke or something. You guys will never understand how we feel an how we came up.
+Christian Quiles How could I when someone is degrading where I am born and raised an they have not one inch of a clue about PAHOKEE!! We have some of the best talent on the Muck both PAHOKEE an BELLE GLADE have some of the best talent in the NFL also we have an W.N.B.A also we have rappers, news reporter's, etc
I've been to the Pahokee's abandoned hospital before, and you guys barely saw any of the good spots. That place with the hornets nest leads up to a staircase that brings you to the roof. The graffiti and sights up there were absolutely phenomenal and you really missed out. Along with that, the second story allows you to exit onto one of the many roofs that also provides great sights. There are these owls that perch up top and when you go up, they will circle the hospital which is really something. Tons of cool treasures there. 7.6/10 would go again for the hospital
So does Belle Glade, which isn’t much better. The Beaumont area of Texas produces a noticeable amount of nfl players as well, northeast Ohio is the same too, all depressed terrible places to live. So should we promote an economic downturn to get more players out of our areas?

*Strange Fact:* About 1 in every 30 residents is a registered s-x offender (the average town in America has about 1 registered offender per 2500 people). A ministry group set up a community called Miracle Village nearby, which provides rehabilitation and housing for offenders. It became so popular that there are rarely openings, so offenders hoping to get in began to move and settle in the closest community to Miracle Village, which is Pahokee.
Perhaps elaborating more on the history of the town
Yea I thought that was gonna happen.
Was a world class bass fishing resort in the 1920s, hence the Royal palm lined streets. The Prince theater from the 1930s was purchased a few years ago, the owner began to restore it and the town council said no. There's an abandoned circus ride area near the levee.
Not much history to it.

A great case in point of how small, seemingly dead towns can in fact be wonderful places... Sopchoppy, FL (I feel like I spelled that wrong... :s)
Anyway...
lots of drug addicts too

I lived in Jacksonville for about 10 years, and during that time I had visited many places in Florida. Honestly, after St. Augustine I saw a town like this every 25-50 miles. People don’t realize that Florida is not all beaches and vacation time. However Florida projects this image and lets towns like this fall into despair.
Exactly I am from Tallahassee born and raised I live on the road across America because of my job I tell everyone this.
Mechanization eliminated many farm labor jobs and the residents killed their small businesses by driving miles to Walmart.

Bike trails don't build an economy lmao

Anton Nym Problem is the property taxes are probably outrageous since just like all cities it's ran by Democrats
Good point, Adam. I gave you a thumbs-up. All good wishes.
The transformation was amazing.
there is ash in the air constantly from the sugar farms nearby
I doubt the residents pay them and I doubt they are high at all since it is almost all section 8 housing and the landlords are no where near this ghetto town!!

You characterize these towns based on the poor. you make is so that the worse a town is is because of the amount of poor people....
Would you like to be poor? Its not a good place to be because of what poverty does to people. Drugs, gangs, violence, starvation, etc are all undesirable.

Afraid of homeless? Thats the main problem they have besides no home.
Homeless are more scared of other people. They want to be left alone.

@@Mari-xj5mt i would rather live in muck city than NYC
Wassup mr.roman
Now he didn't say that, did he?
You've heard of Little Italy
now get ready for
Little Detroit
It is a meme my dude.
G.I Blue Helmets I
Paul Metcalf Right... Detroit isn't known for music at all... No famous artists have come from here.
Holy shit, that hospital looks like it's straight out of Fallout.
If y'all are "afraid" of homeless people then you shouldn't be exploring.
Tried to watch...5 minutes in fast forwarded it...still no voice or analysis or history...forwarded it some more...still no alaysis, reflection, history...what did I miss?
A lot of muffled voices when any talking happened, and them stating how creepy it was. It wasn't a terribly informative video
Renaye Brown. This is an urbex video not an analysis of any kind!!
I always look forward to your videos, Jake! I know you're going through a rough time right now, but sending good vibes your way!
I'm really digging the Dan Bell and Bright Sun Films crossovers.
I spent some time in pahokee as a kid. I had some good times on the lake. The local Highschool football coach was an awesome man that would allow the players to come hangout at his house where he had a pool table and other fun activities.
Di he touch them in their no no spots?
From Hospital to Waspitol.
LMAO
Lieutenant BaconWaffles get out
General Waspitol.
Lieutenant BaconWaffles Lol.
Quick, let me call the Am-bee-lance!
Tropical Detroit.
mfchimichanga lmao that's so true.
you're a fucking idiot, cities all over America have abandonment, it's not some Detroit thing, go fuck yourself. Detroit is a big city, this is a small fucking town.
more like tropical St. Louis or Baltimore.
lmao ur so dumb.
Rapture582 we know but Detroit is the worst of them, it's the only city in the us to declare bankruptcy and had a felon as a mayor, we all know every other city sucks but Detroit has the most problems so it's the whipping boy, at least it's apparently getting better
Sad how a some of the comments (not all of them, just SOME of them) are just hate comments. You're doing great man. Keep it up.
@Mike G eh, they can't all be masterpieces
The wisest thing he did was wear a mask in these mold mildew infested places.
That get into a human lung is disastrous problems.
Worst town in Florida! Haha! Hilarious 😂
Truth is, there’s a lot of towns like this in the middle of the state.
Eatonville is worse than this. Pine Hills is worse.
How about Lehigh Acres
@@sosonota9903 Arcadia is one of those towns you drive through relying to get somewhere else. I've only ever stopped long enough to eat or piss.
keonisan pine hills and the city of orlando are right next to each other ..it’s like a border line where the drugdealing and. Crime and then there’s the beautiful city of orlando
Arcadia definitely- also, most of Hardee County and Immakolee are like this place!
Big Surge what kind of work did you do there?
Big Surge think that sums it up, 'A ghost town that doesn't know it's dead yet.'
MuckBoi Boxx wew lad, calm down peasant
+Christian Quiles How could I when someone is degrading where I am born and raised an they have not one inch of a clue about PAHOKEE!! We have some of the best talent on the Muck both PAHOKEE an BELLE GLADE have some of the best talent in the NFL also we have an W.N.B.A also we have rappers, news reporter's, etc
What we don't realize is this is all around us, we just don't see it.
You guys should really think about wearing pants instead of shorts when going in these abandoned buildings.
GZUS96 full hazmat
I've been to the Pahokee's abandoned hospital before, and you guys barely saw any of the good spots. That place with the hornets nest leads up to a staircase that brings you to the roof. The graffiti and sights up there were absolutely phenomenal and you really missed out. Along with that, the second story allows you to exit onto one of the many roofs that also provides great sights. There are these owls that perch up top and when you go up, they will circle the hospital which is really something. Tons of cool treasures there. 7.6/10 would go again for the hospital
For a shitty little farm town, Pahokee sure did spawn a lot of NFL players
chisoxfan708 they had to get out somehow I bet there all black too
were you expecting it to spawn out discerning businessmen?
they are or they're not there (there is a place..over there)
Who takes to the knee because they have no pride in themself
So does Belle Glade, which isn’t much better.
The Beaumont area of Texas produces a noticeable amount of nfl players as well, northeast Ohio is the same too, all depressed terrible places to live. So should we promote an economic downturn to get more players out of our areas?
