    A while ago I decided that this lens had too many faults, but that was based on the few reviews I could find. After seeing this, I might actually buy one very soon 👍. I already have the 50 and the 35, both 0.95, and I love those. This might be great all-round lens, for landscapes and subjects closer by. Thx, great review and nice pictures!

      I agree! If f/0.95 is what you're after, but you're flexible with the focal length, then the 35mm lenses are the best buys! But of course the difference between 35mm and 25mm is real :)
      The 7Artisans 35/0.95 is the best budget f/0.95 of them all! Here's my review of that lens:
      ua-cam.com/video/X4MZAJZC-LU/v-deo.html
      The TT Artisan 35/0.95 has weaker optics, but then it is extremely compact. So it's a great general all-purpose lens with the added benefit of being super-fast! My review:

    Finally a review that's on the same wavelength as me. I really love the look but the size sounds annoying during travel. I've been using the Ttartisan 35mm and I love how compact it is. I can go with the tiny 25mm f2 but I just can't love the look for some reason. Arrrgghh 7artisan and Ttartisan has too many choices 😂

      The TT Artisan 25/2 is a great little lens, I really like it - but I agree, it's not as good as the TT Artisan 35/1.4. You could have a look at the 7Artisans 24/1.4 ... but that one's also not perfect :)

    Again a both informative and aesthetically pleasing video... Looks like this lens could be one for Micro Four Thirds, where at least the strange corner distortion would disappear due to the crop? If sharpness and resolution were still sufficient on MFT, that is...

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  4 місяці тому +1

      Many thanks for your comment! Hmm I doubt that this lens will have sufficient resolution for the smaller MFT sensors. And there's also the thicker glass filters on MFT cameras that don't work that well with many of these "vintage" lens designs.
      In my experience, the 7Artisans 35/0.95 (I think it's the same optics as the Brightin Star 35/0.95) is the sharpest and optically "cleanest" of all these budget f/0.95 lenses. And even that one is far from perfect on MFT ...

    • @mr.b6789
      @mr.b6789 4 місяці тому +2

      I just saw a Zhongyi Mitakon Speedmaster 25mm f/0.95 lens for MFT, perhaps that is a good alternative?

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  4 місяці тому +1

      @@mr.b6789 it’s a dedicated MFT lens which does make sense, especially with a „short“ focal length like 25mm!

      @Rob.S.42 4 місяці тому +1

      @@mr.b6789 Indeed. It's beautifully compact, too. I'm just not sure how good it is. Maybe I'll try one at some point!

    Nice 👍🏻 Especially, I love the night shots and I think, they are sharp actually. 🤔 Will I buy that lens ? Tempted, but not sure yet. I already have two 0.95 lenses, 35 mm from ZhongYi and 50 mm from 7Artisans as well. Frankly speaking, I use them just rarely, coz I have a lot of 1.4 lenses, which are sharper and providing nearly the same bokeh ( it’s funny, but the cheapest of them all, the 7Artisans 35mm/1.4 is my favorite ).

    Are you using any recipe for filming? The colors in this video seem significantly better than in previous videos.

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  4 місяці тому +2

      Thanks! Actually Takahiro who shot my videos switched from flat to standard profile, so I have less hassle and do less mistakes in color editing 😂 so I guess it’s that combined with my bad color editing skills. We‘re shooting on the Sony A7S3 currently.

    Nice review! Definitely not the right lens for me, but I really liked your night shots!
    One thing I would like to see someone compare: what gives you (a) technically better and (b) “nicer”, more subjectively enjoyable photos at night - a 0.95 lens like this or a Fujicron F2 with higher ISO and AI de-noise (eg, DxO RAW)?

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  4 місяці тому +1

      Many thanks!
      As for your question - I really have to say that in very low-light environments ultra-fast aperture always wins, in my opinion ... in the end, there might be a situation where you want the best possible de-noising even with f/0.95!

    Yes, yes, I like your reviews ;) We're lucky to see the rise of the Chinese manufacturers ! I'm myself surprised but I've already several MF Chinese lens, and now an AF one, Viltrox, really a great lens as I'm buying a body just (or mostly) for it. Bis Bald.

    You have tested a lot of these fast lenses in this budget category and I have watched your every review multiple times yet still cannot decide, I am looking for a large aperture (around f1.0) lens, what would you think which would be the best trade-off between sharpness and aperture (as wide aperture as possible without sacrificing sharpness too much)?

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  Місяць тому +1

      The best budget super-fast lens in terms of optics IMO is the 7Artisans 35mm f/0.95!
      Its optics are better than all the other f/0.95 lenses that I have tried out so far. So if the 35mm focal length on APS-C is okay for you, that is the one to go for!

    i absolutely adore the 7artisans 35/0.95 and had high hopes for both their 50/0.95 and this 25/0.95. unfortunately, they're both nowhere near as good wide open and given the size/weight/cost, it just didn't make sense to get them. i really wish they'd both been better performers wide open. perhaps the next iteration of these designs will focus more on their wide open performance, which is arguably why most people buy 0.95 lenses.

    • @tomscameras

    There are no such things as "bokeh balls". They are specular highlights. The blur obsession is helping to sell lenses for sure, but not improving photography.

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  4 місяці тому +1

      That reminds me a bit of the term „full frame“ that also might sound weird for everyone shooting medium format. But, hey, everyone knows what is meant. Also with „bokeh balls“! I agree that extreme obsession with bokeh doesn’t improve photography per se. But then, it’s just one more technical aspect that you can try out and maybe it’s of good use sometimes. So, why not?
