Benefit of the saw pouch is that it adds a solid shelf for a ruck or assault pack to rest on it

I received these same pouches when I was a saw gunner in SOI. When I got to the fleet I wasn't a saw gunner anymore, but I stilled used the pouches as a GP pouch.

i think most of pouches's purpose are depend on user's demands and situations.
and thanks.it's really helpful for me.

Regular Infantry would've used this type of pouch to carry more ammo and have more room for more pouches in the Chest rig, Vest, etc.

ALICE gear really is hard to beat. Ive modernized with the MOLLE system but I still keep and use all of my old ALICE gear. Its smarter, stronger & offers more utility.

You can kind of mix and match both systems together also...

MOLLE belt & harness is the best of both worlds. You have all the advantages of MOLLE position adjustment _plus_ a wider range of aftermarket accessories _plus_ the comfort and better weight distribution of more supportive belts and harness.
And plate carriers are basically useless to 99% of us, so what's with the fascination of overloading your chest with rigid equipment and preventing you from being able to go prone?

Nice to see ALICE gear still used. I enlisted in 2002 and was trained at Ft. Benning with ALICE gear. It worked. Then Bush sent Billions to the DoD and MOLLE was the new girl in town. I run an AK and I’m looking for AK mag ALICE gear. Thanks for the video.

One thing I found one Ebay is a Eagle Industries SAW pouch. This looks like a oversized M-16 ammo pouch. This might of some intrest to you. These can easily hold 4 40 Magpul magazines or 5 GI style magazines.@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival

You might consider the ALICE buttpack and upgrading it with fastex snaps. It'll triple your load carrying capability and if you use the attachment eyelits with the LCE suspenders it will not sag.

I got a lot of modern gear but to be honest I've kind of thrown it in the corner and reverted back to Old School Alice gear. You can't go wrong with it. And someone who's just starting out trying to put a kit together it is very economically cheap to do.

May 3, 2018---One thing a man can't have too many of is pouches. Got the 100 & 200 round ones along with the MRE pouch. Can't remember which one of these (200 round or MRE pouch) I've got 10 AR-15 loaded magazines in and it has no trouble with the weight or as far as tearing, etc. My MRE pouch holds my Ozark pot set along with a bunch of other stuff in the pouch and pots.

The FIRST POUCH you displayed is not a radio pouch. The RTO (Radio/Telephone Operator) or "Commo Guy" straps the SINCGARS radio on his rucksack metal frame or he packs it in his backpack along with other commo equipment. I've never seen an RTO carry his SINCGARS radio on his belt, it will be difficult to low crawl and the radio antenna will obstruct his movement. I believe the first pouch you displayed is the first generation GPS pouch. Yes, it's hard to imagine a GPS that big. Yet, during the GPS infancy, the military GPS is that big. They were in service from the first Gulf War up to the mid 2000's when they were eventually replaced with the latest GPS version. Think of the brick cellphones during the early days of the mobile phones, compare to the modern smart phones. The small and long pocket on the right side of the pouch is where you store the GPS battery, which is a non-standard battery type the size of 3 C-battery combined.
Regarding the SECOND POUCH, we called that "PORK CHOP" pouch. The 200 round SAW magazine is nicknamed "pork chop" because it resembles....well....a pork chop!!!
If I may suggest, get a "BUTT PACK" specifically designed for LCE (Load-Carrying Equipment) web belt and suspenders. The two ends of the suspender connects with the butt pack. A butt pack has larger storage capacity than a pork chop pouch. I find it unusual you actually like the LCE setup. They were still in use during my early days in the military. I thought they were ok, nothing spectacular. We were all ecstatic when the LCE was phased out. Nowadays, nobody will ever get caught wearing them. I have a rucksack full of old LCE equipment in my garage. I think they belong in a museum.
I can suggest so many things on how to improve your LCE pack, but I don't wanna disclose too many trade secrets, hehe.

    • @FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival
      @FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival  6 років тому +1

I would have to agree. I am only calling it a radio pouch because it was marketed as such. I remember the first GPS units, my dad had one on a boat he owned in the late 80's and it was large. I also remember the old brick cell phones and also the bag phones, had one of each of them. I do have a buttpack, I have a few videos on how I use it differently. It is presently on an LBV88 vest which I think is a great use for it. I like the LCE stuff, very inexpensive and versatile. Suggest away my brother, that is what helps everyone....

@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival before the FN Minimi M249 Squad Automatic Weapon , or SAW, was adopted. It was common practice to have a designated “automatic rifleman” in each squad. This soldier would carry extra ammo, including tracers for marking targets, and it was his job to provide full auto supporting fire to both back up the M60 gunner, as well as provide suppressing fire for the squad/platoon/company. When the Army switched from the full auto capable M16A1 to the three round burst M16A2, some units kept A1’s on hand to maintain the automatic rifleman role. That role was ultimately eliminated by the adoption of the M249.

Are these taller than the 3-cell 30 rd magazine (AR-15 derived) small arms cases? Can't fit MP5 magazines in the latter, so I'm trying to find an alternative that works. Much older H&K stuff, especially for the MP5, commands a shocking premium and rarity. The MOLLE stuff looks *way* past tacky for my taste.
