I am going to purchase a cutter for my school. It was going to be a Glowforge, but you are making me rethink. I am in a school with 300 students. Do you think xTool will be easy for one teacher? I have a full sprectrum and I am not happy with their tech support. Any suggestions? Thank you

At my previous job i used a Glowforge all the time. It was super cool, but at my new job we use Flux laser cutters, and I haven't missed the Glowforge once. The cloud-only software on GF is a nightmare. Oh, the website connection is slow? Enjoy waiting 20 minutes for a basic cut to load up. Their SaaS subscription model is a steaming pile of bullshit too. The Flux laser cutters run local software, and you can load DXF and Illustrator files directly, which is such a huge win over GF. These new XTool machines look really cool! I'm considering getting one for myself. Man, especially that automated pass through! That's awesome.

Im glad I’m not the only one that feels that way about the GF ecosystem. The P2 has really been a breath of fresh air!

What’s your job? I want to learn how to use this machine but where to learn?

Can it cut Dollar Tree foam board (~1/4” white styrofoam sheets)? I make RC foamboard airplanes and would like something that could cut sheets of foamboard.

Yes but you need to exhaust the fumes outside

Foam board is one of the easiest materials to cut, you definitely don't need a 55W laser for that. But please don't get an open gantry machine, and do make sure to vent and filter the exhaust properly

    Will it engrave on metal?

How is the laser speed compared to the glowforge? Job processing time? Did it seem to cut faster than the glowforge, or no difference?

I use to love glowforge but my machine won't cut through material anymore after 3 years and I have been trying to get ahold of customer support for weeks 😢

Laser modules are consumables and eventually have to be replaced. Does your Glowforge have a way to check the bulb hours on your laser module?
