@@Jules-Is-a-GuyI had to laugh so much when that came up. How entitled can you be to complain about a podcaster drinking something while talking for an hour.
Funny thing, that "just be yourself" mantra. I agree with it. However, when it comes to myself, I've had a hard time living up to it. There's some sort of bizarre thing about me where others feel completely free to tell me how awful they think I am. Like, my existence erases the social norm of not just openly calling someone out. Like, of we see a 500 lb fat person, nobody just goes up to them and says "God your fat. What a loser you are." But with me, people feel completely entitled to do these types of things. It's the strangest friggin thing and it's happened all my life. It has led to me being very guarded around others yet being guarded doesn't lead to a fulfilled life or the authentic outward expression of who I am. I am grateful, though, that have a wife and three children who allow me to be me. That's been the life saver. That being said, it would certainly be nice to just be myself openly. I'm tired of living with a bitten tongue, clenched jaw and held breath. The last time I said eff it as just acted like myself, it was in Hawaii for my brother-in-law's wedding. I was having a grand ol time. Laughing, living it up. Then one day my wife comes into the room balling her eyes out and says she just had the biggest fight with her dad. He told her that she had married human garbage. A sad excuse for a man. That I was a freeloader who never worked a day in my life and that my schizophrenic mother was right with her abuse of me. Lastly, be told her that she needed to divorce me. Anyway, thank god for my wife. She had my back and her dad lost out in the end. But it's moments like that that make me more than gun shy to just be myself.
I hear you about the "shunted to the side of your own life bit". I had for me what i thought i wanted, a good solid job in a multinational and i was being promoted. Got to my target level after a few years, and was being paid well. I was seriously unhappy though, mainly because the job career and and house stuff is really not important to me but we are programmed to go for that. I crave and have always been obsessed with adrenaline in sports. And you do not get that in a steady job and career. I get it in sports that i love and am obsessed with. I changed what i was doing when i got a redundancy option and now i've got zero job security and work through agencies only, but i'm making enough money to spend massive amounts of time pursuing what i actually love to do. It has made me far happier, even though sometimes i get a bit of fear about my lack of security. The fear of going back to being in golden handcuffs is even worse, so it does stop me from going back to security.
Update: I confessed the loss of my son on this channel only, and received immense support. Ryle Cowan came and went on Sunday at 10:56pm, and thanks to all here to spoke, and checked in. It meant a lot. Mother is healthy.
Great job. Honestly, it seems like you were born for this: face, voice, temperament, intelligence, and personality. I doubt that anyone is seriously offended by your pointing out the stress of being so successful in a relatively short time frame. I have been following you for several years. You started at a very competent level and still noticeably improve each year. I look forward to the new year and your future work.
Anything Jordan Peterson says is worth understanding, listening to again, noting, adopting, acting upon and incorporating into your life! The excellent Dr JP is wise beyond words
Your commitment to improve yourself every waking moment, reminds us all that we can all do the same, so we thank you for that. Truly helping yourself, truly helps others
Thanks for a great conversation... The recipe for happiness.. .... is feeling grateful.... I started to work on feeling grateful for who I am, including my insecurities.
I think that in that transition place between being and becoming, what is important is to not let that place be a void, but to let that place allow you to find out who you are, embrace that and try it out- be you, try to be who you are, finding the balance through growing through what you go through within that grit grounding place and standing up with grace feeling peace as the shoes of your feet ;) then move, tap into that flow . There's more to it of course, but I do not yet have much to give , as I am busy with it right now, but I appreciate the opportunity to be grateful and trust the process and excercise my faith and allow my perseverance to be a blessing , and trying to let go of the lies of being worthless etc, in order to receive the love I need to be me, and who I am created to be, and to come to truly believe that I am blessed and worthy, and what's beautiful about that is the why , which is to be able to bless others .. blessed to be a blessing 😊
Never thought the chap I used to chat with occasionally on Collingwood St would end up giving me so much incredible information. Fantastic work sir, keep it up.
As a newcomer to your channel in recent months, I'd like to really thank you @ChrisWillx for not only these lessons but also the lessons learned from listening to you and your amazing guests. Thank you for introducing me to some incredible influences in which I believe have helped turn my life in a better direction. Keep up the fantastic work.. the world needs more people like you in it ❤
This "needines thing" mostly gets misunderstood anyway. Just because someone has manners and thinks it‘s lame to pretend to be busy doesn‘t make them needy. I really believe people will regret taking those kind of people for granted.
I have been watching your channel for a while now. This is probably one of the best pieces of content I have ever seen. The proof that you have truly understood, condensed and absorbed what you have had the chance to discuss with the incredible people you have interviewed. Thank you.
One of the better videos that I have listened to. This compilation should be a learning block in high schools. Much of this wisdom is hard earned and only self evident as we move through life. How nice it would have been to be exposed to these ideas as a teenager.
Exactly. Kind of an off the wall addition to your observation, but another thing that young people ought to read when they're about 15 is Plato's "Republic" (the Allan Bloom translation). It's not hi falutin' stuff - it's the story of Socrates getting waylaid by some well born young men and prevented from leaving the city he is about to leave. He's good naturedly forced to turn back and spend an evening with these young men and what they do is "construct a City in Speech." I'm serious when I say that, had I read it when I was fifteen instead of thirty five, it would've saved me a ton of grief. By the way, the Straussians think the ending is not what Plato is seriously recommending, but instead he's showing what one gets when one believes one can attain "Justice" - showing the ridiculousness of what perfect " justice" would entail
You are inspiring. Don't let the trolls troll about your water drinking and other silly judgments. Keep building yourself and inspire the men (and women) who listen to you. Thank you ❤️💪🏼
I’ve got a lot of respect for you Chris, you’re someone a lot of us can look up to. A great example for always striving to be better and staying humble along the way. Thanks for everything.
As one of the 83% of listeners who found your podcast for the first time this year. Your voice and those of your guests has been a true source inspiration and strength. The lessons you’ve instilled have helped me pull through a truly trying time in the midst of superficial successes. You’ve inspired me to pursue my own podcast and my own passion to create spaces for extraordinary people to share their stories. Thank you Chris! I hope to meet you in person some day!
Thanks for talking about ppl treating us differently. I am not famous but I'm on TV and it is bizarre - what an honor. I am so grateful beyond words but when ppl act "differently" around or toward me it's quite surreal.
I am grateful for you, Chris. I appreciate and admire everything you're doing for me and everyone like me. Your compassion is beyond inspiring. Nothing but love and respect ❤🤝
At the end there, you said you’re not trying to get in the way of your guests etc. which is a beautiful & humble statement. That being said, no one can absorb every moment in your life and hear all the amazing things you have heard from each of these guests on your podcast or behind the scenes. So you sharing your individual insights and allowing others to know and hear stories of your life, perspective, growth, & realizations can also have quite important impact as well. Everyone receives information differently. A lessons can be a statement, like a quote, but the stories are like the legends or myths that are easily received by a variety of people that have all different levels of capacity. In some cases reaches the soul better than written words especially with a variable audience. Thank you for sharing both pieces ❤️
This podcast in general has helped me greatly. Been dealing with a breakup and I’m realizing things I need to do better, boundaries I’ve needed to set and how to just be a better, more stoic person overall.
I hope you see this Chris. I have already listened to most of this when it came out. But I come back to the nuggets of wisdom that I didn't finish digesting. I want to let you know that, your work is actually like art. I hope you get that appreciation. These are my favorite of your videos. I understand how you had to mine for the wisdom to get these ones out. Thank you. Wish you and the community a prosperous new year. I hope you set challenging goals and struggle to achieve them because they are worth the effort!!!
I really enjoy listening to your PODCAST. Its better than JRE!!! It is very informative and makes you feel good about life. Thank You. Most of your friends are STUDS that are Winning in LIFE. GOOD INTERVIEWS!!!
You keep doing you, brother! It's been incredible to follow your journey, and see you gain even more modern wisdom throughout the years. Love you, peace.
Chris, your example of positivity and love of life has moved me from a sea of subliminal misery to that of deliberate, conscious excitement for life. Thanks for motivating me and my sons.
On much of your discourse, a quote I often turn to in my own life came to mind. Carl Jung said "That which we do not confront in ourselves we shall meet as fate"
Honestly, this video is a breath of fresh air. I really enjoy hearing these kinds of messages. I too, like some of the audience, have drowned myself with a lot of the negative outputs in the past years and needed my focus to change onto something better. Thank you for this, Chris.
People who can't enjoy where they are need to learn. Practice mindfulness. Open your eyes and only pay attention to what you see. What you feel. What you hear. Live in your body, not your mind. It's alright to occasionally accept that this moment is enough. You are enough. Then move on to improvement and the journey again.
So refreshing to see you riffing on your own Chris. You are worth listening to in your own right when the big guests aren't by your side. More of this type of thing just from you being you please!
35:15 Thank you Chris! Much respect. This is exactly where I struggle in life as well. I personally think it has to do with how we as humans tend to prioritize which parts of our lives we manage in quantitative versus qualitative ways and to what extent. If change is the only constant then the bar gets raised or lowered in several aspects relative to external events on both micro and macro levels.
On trajectory, declining from a top position could simply imply the beginning of a new phase since the goal has been achieved. You have to come down from one mountain in order to climb the next.
Thanks for all of your content this year Chris. I really appreciate how helpful it has been on my journey of self-improvement and I'm sure that many others feel the same. Wishing you a happy and prosperous 2024!
Chris, thank you so much for everything this year. Thank you for being so transparent and open. Appreciate everything that you do wholeheartedly. sincerely thank you thank you thank you you give me direction and help me structure not only my life, but my thoughts and purpose. As long as you keep doing this, I’m a fan forever thank you once again. Arthur from Melbourne, Australia
I absolutely love these episodes Chris - I know they don't get as many views as your interview podcasts, but honestly, I get so much value from these solo episodes. Thank you for all that you do!
" I will try and drink...quietly"..My Friend; that was Hilarious 😂😂😂 By far...one my Favorite Podcasts...no question! Fantastic approach to the Human Connection in All of Us! Authentic wisdom delivered by a friend. Thanks Chris!
You’re right at the very top of your game Chris and it’s been astonishing to see the rise over the last couple of years. I can’t adequately express how much your conversations with others and your own insight has impacted me over this period. You are absolutely killing it and it feels like this is just the beginning. Massive respect, well done and thanks for doing what you do. Big inspiration.
The way I've thought about the "toxic compassion" point has been "the nuance of 'nice' vs 'good'." Often the two overlap, but being able to recognize when they don't, as well as being willing to risk that you've misread things and end up doing neither takes confidence, competence, and some degree of risk-taking.
The top two podcasters in the past couple years in my book are Chris Williamson and Andrew Huberman! Chris' program is CBT for me and also keeps me in tune with the latest research in interesting and pertinent trends and big ideas, and Huberman's is everything for mental and physical health! I have benefited greatly from both of you guys! Thank you!!!
The articulation that surrounds the topics and ideas that Chris shares is extremely impressive. You can tell he really knows what he’s doing. Might I add, he also has the highest quality audio recordings of all the major podcasts I listen to. Top stuff, love it! ❤
On the 4th point "My mind is a storm", I can relate and it's especially challenging to be proficient. I know many would hear that I didn't have to pay for college, became a mechanical engineer out of high school at 18, bought a house at 20, I'm a 6'2" volleyball player with good athleticism and an impressive vertical, and seem to have my life in order. On the inside however, I've been living alone for three years, have been without hardly any good friends for years, and have been single for four years since Covid happened without even going on a date for the last year and a half. I might have a lot, but I don't think anyone should want to be me. My problem is how to imagine sympathy for my situation, how can someone be sympathetic of a guy who has what I have? How can I even have enough sympathy to respect myself after feeling miserable?
I think you are super, I have learnt a great deal about myself and my fellow humans. You are well spoken and I can see you are thoughtful. Wiser and casual convos with a vast range of guests who mostly seem intelligent and thoughtful as well as humble in their mere humaness.. Extremely handsome which was a bonus (I find intelligent people so attractive, even if they butt ugly) Anyheow dont worry yourself on those negative comments I am awesome and can tell you from my tribe. Namaste brother, and a sweet as churr from Aotearoa NZ

I started to work on feeling grateful for who I am, including my insecurities.
Thank you Chis, for your compassion, wisdom and love in sharing your new found wisdom!

You're helping so many with philosophy and psychology. I love this growth mindset podcast.
One of the best things that happened to me this year was Discoverying this podcast. It has kept me company a lot.

Thank you for another year of wisdom dude 🙏
Cheers Chris. Best wishes for 2024. Keep on keepin' on.
Great reflections!!! - A great man once said: Celebrate the small victories and you will get far.
As one of the 83% of listeners who found your podcast for the first time this year. Your voice and those of your guests has been a true source inspiration and strength.

You’ve inspired me to pursue my own podcast and my own passion to create spaces for extraordinary people to share their stories. Thank you Chris! I hope to meet you in person some day!
Thank you for what you do. The ability to clearly articulate these ideas and philosophies to the average person is harder than one might think.
Found your account 1 year ago...and your videos has such a huge impact ton my life you cannot even imagine...
Thanks for talking about ppl treating us differently. I am not famous but I'm on TV and it is bizarre - what an honor. I am so grateful beyond words but when ppl act "differently" around or toward me it's quite surreal.
I feel like Chris has amassed a huge following through his podcast with the sole intention of having Naval on.
Your there bro, take a snapshot of your journey and blossom on bro. you help make the world make sense. Godspeed
Having a child doesn’t destroy your ambition. It **focuses** your ambition way past yourself and even your own lifespan.
I love it, thanks for sharing all of these reflections and lessons. You, your guests, and your audience are changing the world.
I am grateful for you, Chris. I appreciate and admire everything you're doing for me and everyone like me. Your compassion is beyond inspiring. Nothing but love and respect ❤🤝

This podcast in general has helped me greatly. Been dealing with a breakup and I’m realizing things I need to do better, boundaries I’ve needed to set and how to just be a better, more stoic person overall.
I got this at the right time,im now preparing for my new phase of life as an entrepreneur in 2024 and beyond.Thank you very much indeed Mr Jordan.
Thank you, you have made me realise, i need to do what is good for me, not living my life how others want me to. ❤
I hope you see this Chris.

I cannot believe this wisdom is free 😭
Thanks for all you do Chris looking forward to your work in 2024! God bless
Chris, your example of positivity and love of life has moved me from a sea of subliminal misery to that of deliberate, conscious excitement for life. Thanks for motivating me and my sons.
This is a very clever video idea. First podcaster I’ve seen to compile what they’ve learned from people like this. Good stuff
David Goggins speaks about 32:50 frequently too. I love it.
On much of your discourse, a quote I often turn to in my own life came to mind. Carl Jung said "That which we do not confront in ourselves we shall meet as fate"
This is great. Thanks. Happy 2023 and here's to a 🔥2024!
These are the best episodes!
One of the most valuable recent episodes. Thanks 🎉
You reminded me of that coaching/training quote "Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast" but I can't remember who said it originally
Great summary of your top lessons in 2023🎉 Please prioritise your well-being & stay hydrated, regardless of the couch critics’ complaints 😂
Thank you. Ancient wisdom in 21 st century speak. Well done!
Honestly, this video is a breath of fresh air. I really enjoy hearing these kinds of messages. I too, like some of the audience, have drowned myself with a lot of the negative outputs in the past years and needed my focus to change onto something better. Thank you for this, Chris.
Much respect. Thank you.
Thankyou Chris ! For your passion and wisdom ! Keep doing what you`re doing ! You are serving more than you know !
100% relate with not achieving your dreams to fast- stretch it out-
This is why you make your personal objectives non materialistic. The journey will always continue ❤
Great stuff, Chris. Sounds like you've learned a lot this year. Keep up the good work.
You are in my top five utube shows n really enjoy when it's just you !! Stay hydrated my friend 😊😊
Hahahaha! Thank you Chris. The quiet sip is appreciated...😂😉 Thanks for your awesome work this year, I am grateful to you 🧡🫂

Thanks for all of your content this year Chris. I really appreciate how helpful it has been on my journey of self-improvement and I'm sure that many others feel the same. Wishing you a happy and prosperous 2024!
Chris, thank you so much for everything this year. Thank you for being so transparent and open. As long as you keep doing this, I’m a fan forever thank you once again. Arthur from Melbourne, Australia
I absolutely love these episodes Chris - I know they don't get as many views as your interview podcasts, but honestly, I get so much value from these solo episodes. Thank you for all that you do!
" I will try and drink...quietly"..My Friend; that was Hilarious 😂😂😂
By far...one my Favorite Podcasts...no question!
Love it, brother! Thank you! 🙏
Thank you!!!
oh well, I think this is one Chris's best video of the year
These are important and humbling. Thank you.
Random thought about the lottery: is birth like this?
Great stuff - I like what you had to say about Dali, and lots of other bits. Have a great new year everyone
Well done Chris. Eloquent and prescient as usual. We must push things forward in a ‘selfish’ way yet helping others when appropriate.
Thanks for the 2023 review
Great, thank you Chris and happy holidays!
Thanks so much for your work and wisdom, so enjoy listening to your podcasts.
Thanks for putting together all of this meaningful thoughts ! It's like a tool-box helping to have a better life !
I just want to say Merry Christmas to you Chris. Listening to you throughout this year has impacted and improved how I think about life.
The drinking quietly cue was an assurance we needed. The can is indeed empty.
This was awesome, thank you!
That one thing about envy hits me pretty hard. Ive never thought of it in that way. Thank Chris! Greetings from Uruguay!!!
Thank you for everything
The articulation that surrounds the topics and ideas that Chris shares is extremely impressive. You can tell he really knows what he’s doing. Might I add, he also has the highest quality audio recordings of all the major podcasts I listen to. Top stuff, love it! ❤
What position do you play?
Thank you, Chris! This video is a gem, brilliant!
Thank you, I needed this.
I think position can be better than trajectory if you're a healthy individual who can manage this well and set the right expectations for yourself
Another awesome upload, thank you.
You are a thoughtful human, Chris.
The episodes with comedians Jummy and Whitney were fantastic and insightful.
