What do you want to see more videos about regarding the ATEM Mini's audio capabilities?

Hi Brian, I'm trying to connect my dynamic mic (Rode Podmic) to the ATEM Mini. I've got the Podmic through a Cloudlifter to a Focusrite Scarlett Solo. I tried feeding out both from the line out and also from the headphone monitor jack into the ATEM Mini, but not getting a clean signal. They either sound low and hissy or loud and distorted. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? In ATEM Software control, I've tried changing the mic inputs to mic + plugin power, mic, and lineout. None of these are working right... Thanks in advance. BTW - love all your videos.

I know this sounds silly, but did you turn that mic input "on" in the ATEM software?

@@AudioforContentCreators Haha, yes I did. My Rode NTG Hybrid works fine when plugged into ATEM. In any case thanks for responding. I'll continue troubleshooting and experimenting.

@@AndyPark365 Either the line or headphone jack should give you a line level signal. Definitely set the ATEM input to line level. Be sure you are using a stereo TRS to stereo 3.5mm TRS cable. If you're using the headphone jack, as I do with the Tascam Model 12, start with the volume knob low and slowly turn it up until you reach somewhere around -3 peaking. Really should be nothing to it.

@@AudioforContentCreators Brian - first of all, thanks for following up and trying to help me with this. Really appreciate it. At this point, I think there may be something wrong with the ATEM. I picked it up second-hand from B&H so maybe I need to restore to factory setting to ensure reset of any previous settings. Or maybe the unit is just bad. I tried so many different combinations between different mics and even passing it through zoom h1. Not getting a clean sound. Regardless, thanks for your help!

OK, first of all some caveats... I have hearing impairment in mid frequency range to lower high frequencies, so my experience may not be typical. Just sayin' :-)
I found that B was better for me in the order of podcast mike, shotgun mike and lav mike, while the A shotgun audio was also good (enough).
I am listening through a pair of Thomson budget (wireless) headphones which I am so used to, having used then from the pandemic start in 2020. I have recently purchased DT770 (80 Ohm Studio)headphones which I will use to listen to this again to see if there are any differences.
Thanks for the time spent on this, I appreciate it - and I have looked longingly at the ATEM Mini for some time, but just don't have the use case for it (yet!)
Again many thanks for all the videos, I find they are all helpful to me in my quest for a "better" audio experience.

Thrilled these videos are helpful in training your ear, Shane! Thanks so much for being here. What kind of content are you creating?

@@AudioforContentCreators Currently, music (badly) to go with photography/video I shoot as a hobby. There may be more use cases later as I work out if I want to do a youtube channel. Who knows, just taking it easy at the moment, and learning heaps.

OK, went and listened to this again with my DT770 headphones through the Focusrite 212 interface. Results overall were the same as above, but the difference in the audio was more marked - that is, it was easier for me to make the distinction between direct to ATEM or through quality pre-amps first. Could be the difference between the £30 Thomson Headphones and the £100+ DT770's, or it could be the Focusrite 212 (awesome little budget I/f).
Thanks for the interactive YouTubing, Brian. Good Fun. All the best :-)

@@shanek54 You've highlighted something really important Shane, that I teach in my premium audio course: The way you monitor/listen to audio is critical to learning about audio and training your ears. If you're not listening on quality headphones or monitors, you will never hear the differences and nuances you need to understand. Thrilled you got that experience.

@@AudioforContentCreators Brian, I would not have believed the difference between my two set-ups: My standard for many years has been use the computer audio, into relatively inexpensive headphones/speakers. Given my frequency curve, I thought that was all I could get, but I have now invested in a Mac mini m1, the Focusrite 212 3rd gen, Alesis 5 speakers, the DT770's, quality cables, the Tascam Dr-05x which has all come together over the last week, and the quality I now get through these decent pieces of hardware (that are still budget, or close to the bottom of the "professional" audio budgets I could get) is amazing. No more 1" USB speakers for me LOL!!
I have subscribed and I will be going over your back catalogue to see what I can learn. Again, many thanks for your efforts on behalf of the audiologically challenged :-)
