My brother-in-law was their original chauffer back in the day when they needed a ride! They played for us at our "backyard" parties and at my husbands 35th birthday party. Que Vivan LOS LOBOS!
Two great singers, two great guitar players, A guy who can kick it on sax (flute and keys too), a monster rhythm section - a band that can cover anything from Mexican folk to rock to blues. What more could you ask for?
I love Los Lobos soo much !! I think they're just ace.. So many of their songs make me wanna dance - yet go weak at the knees by the beauty of the music too. Two examples : would be 'Don't Worry Baby' & 'Evangeline'.. Or 'Will The Wolf Survive' .. Also adore their brilliant covers of 'La Bamba' & 'Come On Let's Go'.. Great songs to make yer feel good when life feels difficult to deal with. My love & respect go out to those guys - & peace (Give It A Chance) be upon all man (& woman) kind across the globe. Rxx
When Bill Graham put on a benefit he ALWAYS did it right! Unlike the company that now owns the name Bill Graham Presents, who have never put on one major benefit, Bill ALWAYS made it a point to give back to the communities that he worked and lived in. This show being a prime example of this dedication!
Todos los conciertos que he visto de los Lobos me han gustado, pero para mi que este fue excelente, todos dieron lo mejor de si, estaban muy relajados y se nota que ellos mismos lo disfrutaron, junto con todo el público ahí presente..
I was at this show. I lived in Aptos at the time. you can see me several times through out the concert. I was audio taping the show. I am wearing a grey sweater and a straw hat with 2 mics on top. lol
Funny but I just passed by Watsonville yesterday on my way to visit some family in San Juan Bautista. Beautiful country and towns. And I’m from East LA. Chicano towns.
I think Louie completely disagrees with you as he used to tell me he sure wished somebody else would play the drums as he sort of got stuck with it and I guarantee he is plenty many more happy not beating on the skins anymore. I'm in Thailand and haven't seen them since about four years ago at Stanford at the Bing or maybe Hollister at Pepper Tree but Louie was one happy guy and they always rock and one of the greatest dance bands you can find anywhere next to the Dead and the Dead ain't no more so you can do the math ... the Wolf shall survive andale pues with peace and love
Wasn't this the Earthquake Relief Benefit? Yeah I hate to brag, even though I wasn't at this one; I saw them many times along with Santana for free at U.S.C. where I used to work, but also with Black Uhuru, as well as several times with Grateful Dead including at the A.I.D.S. research Benefit at Oakland Stadium and the bill Graham Memorial free show in Golden Gate Park. Lastly, for free the last time the so-called Street Scene was still worth a damn down here in San Diego (also at the L.A. Street Scene, obviously similarly before the gangbangers made it get discontinued). Notice on the organ the Grateful Dead sticker! Gracias, Ramon Augustine San Diego
In 2011, Los Lobos received the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement award, yet they still aren't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?! What a travesty! The R&RHoF's website states, "Inductees are recognized for having contributed over 25 years of musical excellence." I guess the Rock Hall had to recognize such important bands as Def Leppard first. Give me a f'ing break!
Their original name was Los Lobos del Este de Los Angeles, honoring their hometown. Cesar Rosas (the left-handed guitarist) was born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico and raised in "East Los."
it was an EARTHQUAKE RELIEF BENEFIT from the Oct. 89 earthquake. Watsonville was the epicenter and the boyz have friends/relatives in the area. Santana headlined the show and Cesar & David jammed with him. that video is also on YT. show was only $5!
Also the Valenzuela family the Cesar mentions was Richie Valens' mother and family. I don't know if they band already knew her before they did the music for the 1987 'La Bamba' movie, but she lived in or near Watsonville.
Los Lobos feature two lead singers: Cesar Rosas, the left-handed guitarist, and David Hidalgo, the multi-instrumenatalist lead guitar player (the big guy).
I graduated from Watsonville High. Funny they played in Watsonville and not Pajaro across the river. The Mexicans, Filipinos and okies lived in Pajaro. My mom and Mrs Venezuela were best friends. Mom would take the family food on Sundays and we would play with the boys and girls. We didn’t know we were poor till we went too High School in Watsonville, they let us know. Watsonville was a racist town back then. If you want to see the real Farm Workers in Watsonville, Delano, Tracy and Stockton. See the real farm workers documentary about “. A Dollar a Day, 10 cents a Dance. That’s my uncle singing Mexicali Rose at the end. No it’s not about Caesar Chavez.
What a band sounds like when they've spent 12 hard years on the road ***before*** they made it. Just the most awesome trabajadores in the business.
One of the GREATEST American bands of ALL time!! Rock On .....!
way american! i love them so much!
Mexican-american

How often did he have to change the car's tires?
Very Lucky folks! I never even went to one of their concerts although I wanted to.
AWESOME!
Los Lobos at the top of their game, in a beautifully joyous setting. Perfect.
Two great singers, two great guitar players, A guy who can kick it on sax (flute and keys too), a monster rhythm section - a band that can cover anything from Mexican folk to rock to blues. What more could you ask for?
They look so young here. Saw them just the other night. I never get tired of these guys or their songs.

+Riki Newton Never heard the term "just ace" but I couldn't agree more. "Will the Wolf Survive" is an anthem all unto itself. Los Lobos' rocks.

Were they opening for the Dead?
I saw them together in Foxborough that same year...
@@83169 Not at this show. SANTANA headlined and David & Cesar jammed with Carlos. I did see them open for THE DEAD a few times!
Cool!
Cultural diffusion; that crowd in my opinion is America at its best- people of many ages, creeds and ethnicities rocking together, man!!!
Hell yes brother. That’s what this amazing country is all about
Musicians deserve Nobel peace awards for bringing humanity together.

I have heard the name of this band all of my life. No wonder they were so popular and beloved! Question:. Madrid or Mexico? Or other??
They're freom East Los Angeles, actually. But Mexican-American through and through!

Is the Drummer Louie Perez?
Yes, but in recent years he's been a guitarist, playing various string instruments.
