Why was MTA planning to spend money it didn't have in the first place? And how did it get along without congestion tax revenue 5, 10, 20, or 50 years ago? And why does WCBS just repeat MTA talking points instead of asking real questions of the corrupt and wasteful MTA?

They’ve been kicking the can down the road since the 70s and now that they have astronomical debt, they want the people to foot the bill. Unbelievable.

its because most of that money was grant money that hinged on the congestion pricing implemented. cities need to pitch in for some of the project cost in order to gain access to the billions of dollars of grant money from the federal goverment. So the unexpected killing of this plan pretty much killed and paused everything the MTA had plan to repair, update, and expand for their public transit system.
which is funny when you consider the congestion pricing was only for a small strip lower Manhattan since thats an area with very little public transit infrastructure. Not the whole island as a lot news outlets make it sound.

Listening to that report, as a Brit living in NYC, I thought it very strange that air pollution/air quality was not mentioned once. NYC is a very rich city, and yet the public transport seems pretty diabolical and no-one has been able to explain to me why that is. Such a shame that a wonderful opportunity seems to have been missed due to people playing politics.

So the trains haven’t been running on schedule for decades, they’re always doing repair work every week since like forever and the system is pretty much outdated compared to other markets internationally…and the MTA says that those things will not get fixed because of congestion pricing being scrapped?

It’s a 24 hour system.. it always needs repairs.. 24/7 .. in other countries it’s not 24/7. They have five hours to do their repairs without trains running.

What bologna about service. In the past before COVID, they had trains running just 2 - 3 minutes apart using the old signaling system. Today, even with the new CBTC, trains on time are between 8 - 10 minutes. They purposely did that to justify a reason to squeeze more money from citizens and businesses.

Cut your pay plus the workers an stop fight the lawsuit and use that money and raised fee to use the train system and for who care about congestion pricing is going out there and protest you can get the money from them and was nasty machine that you spend billions of dollars to put up so fast take them down and sell them. There is your budget.

The MTA bafoons need to be at the White House doors for funding. The deficit is the commuters problem. The management is. While I understand the humanitarian crisis with migrants, we need to expel and cut funding there for public transportation and other services like libraries and schools.

Here's a brilliant idea: make everyone from the executives to the rank-and-file take pay-cuts. Watch worker productivity strangely go up or witness mass resignations. I know, I know: never happen.
This agency just excels in giving the public inferior service, along with poor infrastructure with perennial squalor.
