    I loved this challenge! So interesting to see the price differences!

    Great job getting all that food for so cheap! I wonder what the cost would be in an area with more competition between grocery stores. It’s always good to try new things even if some don’t work out. We now have a chef in addition to the regular cook, and he’s trying all kinds of recipes given the limits of a kosher kitchen. Only the main kitchen is kosher - the ones in our suites aren’t.

      Oh def cheaper for other places with cheaper grocery stores I’m sure! Maybe about the same as Jen which was shocking! I always thought food in the states was cheaper but just maybe not in her area. I only know she’s in the Midwest. I’m looking forward to trying a few more of these!
      Oh that’s so fun to experiment with things! I hope you have some delicious food over the next while!

    Wait, you've only had refried beans once before?! We eat them almost every week 🤣 We make bean tortillas like you made the breakfast ones and then they are crispy. I love curry but I am not a fan of chickpea curry either. Use an immersion blender and lots of milk and butter to get smooth mashed potatoes. You can add ranch dressing to it as well for a yummy change. I love your tummy shots- so cute!!

      Hahaha! I know like what have I even been eating? I just thought they look gross! 🤣 ok I often use a beater but I’ll try an immersion blender next time! There has to be hope for me! Lol hahaha about the tummy shots.. it’s so unavoidable at this point! Jks jks! My doctor was like so do you feel like you’re bigger this time than with the other two.. I was laughing.. I’m like ugh yeah for sure! I look full term! 😂😂😂 hope you’re enjoying life all the way out there! Haha!

    Cooking from scratch! I can't stand at the stove that long!😃. Hey, do you guys let your kids have sweets, candy, etc? I'd like to send them some things that may just be made in the states. Of course I will have to send toothbrushes too!🤪

      I'm sorry, you don't have a P O box like most of my UA-camrs. Do they even have To boxes in Canada?

      lol! I'm sure you saw I can barely stand there anymore either! lol!!
      Aww that's so sweet! Ha, get it? Terrible I know! That sounds like so much fun! If you message me on insta I'll send you our address. The kids will be very grateful! lol about the toothbrushes! Funny enough this morning we had a whole episode with Tobias dropping his toothbrush down the sink and it took Chris and I about an hour to get it out. We thought we'd have to have all the plumbing under the sink taken apart. Thankfully we got it!

      @@LifeinYellowknife I'm not on Instagram. So I'll have to figure something out. Maybe I'll have my friend help me with that. Or I'll wait until I'm in Toronto later this summer at the Indy race, you can contact me at the hotel. Listen, I send things to UA-camrs all the time, seeds, canning jars, chocolates, treats for pets, it's fun! I appreciate their content!

    Do you guys get paid more living in NW territories than for the same job as another province? Not sure if u guys grew up there or if u moved up there. But I heard people who lived say for example in Ontario and were in a profession like Nursing, they would get financial incentive to move to NW and practice there. Is there such a thing? Just curious.

    • @LifeinYellowknife
      @LifeinYellowknife  Рік тому

      Yes. We come from Ontario too and we moved up here for the full time (almost impossible in other provinces for new grads) and good pay. Lots of great financial reasons to move up here- northern living allowance, huge homeschool funding, etc) the downside I would say is that the housing and utilities are mega expensive. Also ppl don’t bargain here for used things.

      @@LifeinYellowknife But I meant does your job give u guys a bit higher pay per year because u guys are working out there? Or did u guys get a signing bonus to be out there? Just curious

      Yes, def higher pay. No signing bonus.

    consider weighing the peels and subtracting them from the amount posted on the packet. the way the dollars per kilo goes up might be illuminating, even if it still works out cheaper than baby carrots (which it should, as peeling wastes a lot less of the carrot than dimensioning it into those unnaturally perfect shapes).
    even if you live in a detach or semidetach, I doubt putting anything in the ground will work in the 'knife (it doesn't here in PG and we're a lot further south), but if you know people doing it, maybe give it a shot if the growing season is still reachable?

    • @LifeinYellowknife
      @LifeinYellowknife  Рік тому

      Interesting idea! Thanks for sharing.
      I think people mostly grow things in above ground beds and things here. I will have a few veggies growing this year on my porch. They seems to be sprouting up well so far but of course it’s up to my family after the baby comes so it’s more of an experimental year! Haha!

    Those prices are pretty much the same as Ontario and BC. For the somewhat sane stores that is, nothing specialty. I don’t even bother with sobeys Safeway Zehrs save on etc Even Walmart doesn’t have the best prices anymore right?! Do you get PC points at least with independent?

    • @LifeinYellowknife
      @LifeinYellowknife  Рік тому

      I know! Walmart def used to be a good amount cheaper for some things like canned goods at least but not it’s not even worth the time and extra trip! Oh yes I love the PC points! They are so good at sending fairly regular great offers for grocery pickup mostly so I only do it when there is an offer but it’s a nice treat! Haha! That’s good to know we are all matching (mostly) in Canada now! Haha! It’s brutal! Hopefully something gives because I feel like every time I go it’s gone up! Yikes!
