Ha ha! Not even a large file - just a 5 min vid from my phone. But it's taking ages & now I know I shouldn't be watching this at the same time :)) I thought in the year 2020 with zillions of people uploading on UA-cam every day it must be super quick. I must be doing something wrong. But it seems like a common issue. How long did it take in the pretty recent era of 3G I wonder?

I found out about the h.264 trick during quarantine and my uploads went from 2+ hrs to 10mins for a video over 10mins along which is incredibly helpful.

This came at the PERFECT TIME. It took me 3.5 hours to upload my newest video yesterday, and I was ready to throw my computer through the wall. So excited to try these tips next week!
Awesome!
let me know if this works
Mine is taking almost a day
it took over a day to upload a 600mb video ;-;
i guess my
3,5 hours? I uploaded 3 days ago, it still works on the HD version. I guess it will take at least a week more to get the 4k version

Thanks You too!

Thank you! I was just uploading a video to my channel and it was still at 2+ hours to go! Followed your steps and started over now it’s at 15 minutes until upload is complete!!! Absolute life saver!

It literally takes at least 5 hours for me just to upload a 2mins video
I'm not even exaggerating
Same bro even longer tho
Same mine takes 2 days to upload a 3min vid

Takes me 2-3 hours for a 10min vid 😢

I used to render my videos at high bitrate but that gave me big file sizes. During lockdown to save data I started rendering in medium bitrate which makes the file size 1/3rd. I dont notice any quality degradation so it works great
bruh mine says 79 hours left 👁👄👁
Mines says 74💀
Mine says 100 ☠️
mine says 75883
Mine says 7hours - I accidentally deleted the file so I need to start again
After I export my video I use Handbrake software to reduce the file size without losing quality. This helps because my internet is very slow
Can you explain more? What is the software
I get 0.7mbs upload. Lol
@@capagaming5043 Just UA-cam it., Keep in mind though that if your PC isn't that powerful then it will take a long time and you would rather just upload your video instead

Am I the only one who has everything recommended normal but occasionally have that video you loved making and thinks will do very well always ends up taking ages despite it saying “48 Seconds Left” for an hour or 2?

I watched some of your videos, your funny bro 🤣🤣🤣

Hi there. I had a 6 minute video which usually takes 2 or more hours to upload, only take less than an hour to upload. I couldn't believe how much less time it took. So I did a search and found your video. I had my computer connected to my router via an ethernet cable. And that improved my upload speed. Thank you so much for the information.

@HAMSTER GOD he kinda is
After watching your video, I did some research on how many FPS are being recorded on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Turns out, 30 FPS and not 60. I took your advice and recently learned that UA-cam has been auto set to auto upload the video quality to the most time convenient option, causing my videos to upload EXTREMELY blurry! I changed those settings to full quality and re-exported a video I worked 3 days on at 30 FPS and it cut the size from 6GB to 3GB. I wish I had backed up every video I made somewhere so that I could fix the mistakes. Now I can look back and know that that is why I back everything up to a hard drive. This video was a HUGE help. Thank you!
This is super helpful! It literally takes hours to upload and I have to stay close to my device to make sure which is just so time consuming... excited to use the tips you showed 😎
OMG!! Thank you SOOO much!!!!!! My last vid took (no lie) over 9 hours to upload. I had every single setting wrong. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!
I don’t have a PC and only can load from my iPhone. Any tips for phones, this has been a challenge for the last 3 years of my reviewing on youtube.

Thank you for this though. I have some videos that take 10+ hours to upload EVEN though they aren't long videos. I'll have to try putting some of this to use to see if it helps!

You just helped all of us save time and electricity👍 Thank you for the helpful content!!
Thank you for the brief lesson on WIRELESS 101!! 90% of most folks are still clueless about Wifi and how it really works! If you have 10 things using wireless at the same time, your speed is going to be DRASTICALLY LIMITED/SLOW especially if someone is downloading/uploading/viewing videos/streaming, etc. Even if you hardwire into the AP, it's still going to DEGRADE the bandwidth. If you are experienced enough, you can log into the router and use a service call QOS or Quality Of Service and learn to allocate resources. It is also wise to put items that can only use 2.5gz onto that and those that can use 5gz onto that. For Guest, you always put them on the GUEST Network PERIOD and then allocate bandwidth to them. Your best bet depending on resources is to get your home, condo, etc (if you are paying a mortgage) and have it all WIRED with cat5E or cat6A.
Thank you so much. It always happens on my laptop. That’s why I send the file to my phone to upload videos on my phone. It’s a long process but it’s faster. ❤️ i shoot in 4K 30 fps
Yes I edit on my phone because it's just harder to send on your computer then to ur phone and it sometimes causes problems
@@artsmeally4405 yh

I edit my video on pc... but I uploaded video my mobile phone....🤣🤣
I went through this as you were talking. Unfortunately everything you said my video had done. Although the frame rate when filmed was 30 it then changed in open shot to 9999 (so maybe that makes a difference. All the other settings were as you said (not by anything I'd done it's set up like that) Upload time for a 6.5 min video 1 hour 58 minutes. Next up getting a cable! Yours is the first thing I've come across that doesn't say just clear out your computer or faster internet. Thank you.
That's crazy! Just changing you video from .mov to .mp4 saves so much on the file size!
Yup, also make sure it’s h.264... most importantly!

Hi Nolan, Thank you for this video. The first part, talking about settings has worked very well. I am now uploading videos longer than an hour. Thanks for the tips.

Wow I never knew this! My videos honestly take 12 hours to upload sometimes so I’ll deffo try this for my next video!
1:25 literally changed my life. I had seen someone else's video on how to change the .mov to .mp4 but it wasn't as good as yours. This literally will help me save hours of my life waiting for videos to export and upload lol. Thank you so much!!!!
Thank you for the tips. Would uploading the video as 720p with the frame rate of 30 and then compressing it by 80% make the quality unprofessional if the video is mostly text (an ebook for example)? Also, if the video contain multiple but very small 4K videos, would uploading it in a lower resolution like 720 or 1080 make the scenes in it unable to be played as 4K if the viewer chose that as a setting while watching the video?
your first question is largely dependent on the source images you're using for text / the text size to whether or not 720p is sufficient; I'd recommend looking at other eBooks on UA-cam and screenshot a page, then shrink the screenshot's resolution to a few different sizes to see if their text is still legible as a test...the good news is that your lower frame rate of 30 rather than 60 is actually fine here (and should cut your bandwidth & file size in half hopefully) since you're not trying to render crazy high-motion graphics or effects...as for your second question, the final file that you export should correctly transcode your media of varying sizes to the selected output resolution (e.g., I use a combination of 1080p & 4k very often in projects whose export settings are in a variety of resolutions; the quality & speed with which this resizing & transcoding is performed is largely dependent on which software you're using, e.g. macOS' iMovie doesn't give you a choice but automatically will try to select the first file in your timeline as the default export size (with a 4k30 vs. 1080p60 cap with sometimes questionable upscaling IMO but it's very good at what it does for free, flagship software, & I still use it for 'fast' ebook kind of projects where motion quality is less important & thus is much smoother & faster / less glitchy than using my normal FinalCutPro (on its 2nd expiring trial, so it's still 'free'-ish lol) which I use mostly now) ...I have zero Adobe experience / advice, but I hear it handles upscaling & mismatched-resultions in media really well actually...DaVinci's free & cross-platform on all OS', but I find really tough to pick up & even tho I have FCP learned on a basic level now, I still avoid DaVinci out of laziness tbh...the other main free software I use & love is also cross-platform, and that's Shotcut, which is very similar to FCP, only it handles libraries & media importing very differently...slightly less smooth in editing, but the final product is always as good, so I always recommend having it familiarised bc it has a boatload of configurable features & export / encoding customisations that even FCP & Compressor don't have sometimes (or appear to at least), so it's worth a look when you have some extra time to play around with picking a software to learn 😊
its crazy how changing a setting like the video format has such a huge effect on the output. Thank you so much for uploading this!!! :))))))
Very helpful video, thank you! Yup I'm trying to upload as we speak and I just turned off my wifi on my phone and turned on data 😂

Do you know why youtube takes a very long time to process certain videos over others? Since late 2020 I started to notice some of my videos are taking longer for youtube to process, by longer I mean 20 hours + longer. This is what I see "Processing HD version, SD complete". I recently uploaded two videos days apart, one was 9 minutes 54 seconds, took well over 20 hours to finish processing. The second one was 10 minutes 56 seconds, took just 3 hours to process. Both videos were in 4k, and the processing time that I am referring to here is not the uploading time. I haven't had any issues with upload time.
How did you make it shorter

Fun fact for Windows users: If you run your final video through Windows Movie Maker, your file size will go down a LOT! I edited a podcast for a friend recently, and before Movie Maker the file sizes were anywhere from 15 to 30 GBs depending on how long the episode was. I tried running an episode through Movie Maker one day, and the file size went from 16 GBs to 5 GBs! I have no idea why this is, but it works!
I hope this helps out a bit!

Great question. Let's hope they see it.
i have never been on some ones page and have had such a good experience understand step by step illistration. thank you a million
This is a great start. Another tip for other creators: set a lower bitrate around 10-12 Kbps (10,000 bps). UA-cam suggests only 8 Kbps, so any higher than this will increase your video size and the quality won't be much better after YT's compression. Happy uploading!
Thank you so much! This is incredibly helpful! (: As a small tip from me, it could also depend what internet browser you're using. I use to upload my videos in safari since I own a Mac laptop. The moment I switched to Google chrome, my uploads are 20 minutes or less. I don't know if that's just me, but it comes out perfect without that long wait. God bless!!

Absolutely Fantastic! I make airsoft videos and I usually wait like 3+ hours a video! You have helped me soooo much. Thanks!
Edit: after 2 years. I’ve learned that I’m wrong. But I’m keeping my comment for context:
Keep in mind, uploading a video to UA-cam will use your upload speed bandwidth, so watching UA-cam or streaming music on same WiFi/device will have little to no effect, however, doing multiple things might be more noticeable

@@spray_cheese No worries. I will remove my comment then.
don't forget video quality, if its lower than 1920X1080p it wont take as long. some videos may not need high resolution like that.

Most would say that the recommended UA-cam settings are not the best quality. Maybe for talking heads vids like this it does not matter, but for high quality cinematic footage way different settings are usually recommended
