Landscaping Ideas for Backyard | How to Build a Bridge

  • If you didn't know, landscaping and land developments are moving targets. After diverting water on our property before we put our fence in, we needed a walking bridge that was strong enough for our small tractor to drive over. At certain times in the year, this little ditch becomes a creek, and we needed a way to get across. I want the bridge to be functional, but Tanja insists we incorporate a garden or park feel to each project. I will agree; her way looks better. This will be part of a walking trail around the entire property. This walking bridge has become a unique landscaping feature of our property that is still functional. I give Tanja all the Credit! I know we could not do what we do without using our TYM T474 tractor. It allows us to do work that otherwise we couldn't do anymore.

The bridge is a nice addition to the front yard. You could have got a half a load of fine gravel - the kind used on driveways (with rock dust) and made yourself a smooth walkway over that 3” rock using the tractor to spread it. This could have been done in under an hour by one person at a cheaper cost without changing the drainage. But that bridge does look better.

You have beautiful equipment, tractors, grapples, impact drivers , chainsaw chaps, ear muffs, eye protection. You have it all. Opps where is the chain sawing safety equipment? For both you and your lovely wife. She does have her own equipment doesn’t she?. I never had any either. Until, that is, on topping out a little Oak tree about 12 ft. Off the ground. I came down off the ladder wearing my brand new Eddie Bauer 60/40 jacket with a brand new big slash across the groin area. I never knew when my saw attacked my jacket. Never felt any pulling of fabric. My boss standing abd watching asked….”WHEN DID YOU CUT YOUR JACKET? “. I answered. What????. I never knew when the saw hit my jacket.
The next time you see an EMT ask him how long do you have to live with that big artery spouting blood. I asked an EMT buddy of mine how long. He said he did not know. “ The idiots not wearing chaps were always dead before they got there”. Yes I have chaps and all the other safety equipment that goes with chain sawing. Only about $120 for the complete outfit. Let your wife read this comment and watch her go pale. The safety kit will be next on your “ must have present from your wife. And if you don’t have the kit, you may have a brand new life insurance policy for about 1 million. Now go back up and read this warning again. Safety kits are very cheap when you compare them to Divorce settlements”. And your lawyer will ask. “So she kicked you out for being STUPID ?
