Why I Own A Sawmill? Oversized Log on Frontier Sawmill

  • The Frontier Sawmills OS23 portable sawmill is rated to cut a 23 inch diameter log. We pushed this sawmill to the limit, but got it done. Watches as we cut an oversized Red Oak log into 12 inch boards. The TYM Tractors T264 and the Worksaver grapple is saving our backs. We are having so much fun and learning more each log on this sawmill. This is only our second log, but I would do it different if I had to do it again. I should have cut the rotted side off first, but I was just so excited to cut, that I didn't think it through. There are so many brands of sawmills like Norwood, Woodmizer, D&L, Timberking, Woodland Mills, Harbor Freight, etc. Research and learn what you need.
    But for me, I am happy with the Frontier Sawmill. It has been very good and easy to work. I love to see the inside wood grain the first time. It is always different and special.

    Hello Tony, great video! I bought a OS23 about a year and a half ago. When I got the sawmill, family issues prevented me from putting it together. I am now in the process of assembly. I have the bed setup. A dear friend of mine and me watch your channel alot. I wanted know if you would be interested in coming over and helping us finish putting together and giving me some pointers.

      David, I would recommend going with the 10hp if you are going to be cutting hard wood. I am upgrading my engine to an 18hp which is overkill, but small engines are hard to come by right now. It was the only one I could get. I am doing video on the whole sawmill upgrade. I will get into the nuts and bolts of the sawmill.

    Looks like the water lubricant was flowing too much. Maybe that contributed to the sawdust caking in the head near the wheels?

    It seems as though you use the lumber you mill right away without letting it dry or have it kiln dry. Is that true and if it is, don't you have issues with twisting or movement in the lumber?

    Do you really need to run that much coolant on the blade? Seems like it would tend to make the sawdust cake up in the blade housing...

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  3 роки тому

      I had no idea what I was doing at the time. It never caked up, but with hard woods, I use very little water. I am cutting fresh pine next week so I will use diesel as a coolant. It keeps the pitch from caking.

    • @TonysTractorAdventure

      I used travel trailer leveling legs. I figured they could hold up a 7,000lbs + travel trailer. Turned out to be a good choice. I use my drill to raise and lower the legs. Takes just minutes to set up.

    • @tylervosters3234

      I noticed that and I was planning on using same type of jacks. Wondering what you used as main support beams under the mill or was you trailer long enough already? I'm looking at taking a 4'x8' trailer and extending it to 13' but not sure what to use as beams to extend it

    Cleaning your equipment with water may not be a good idea. I know Harry from Harry's Farm said that hosing out his combine harvester made it go rusty quicker, and in the future he would just use a blower. I enjoyed the video, thanks.

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you for the input. I appreciate your support. I washed and waxed my tractor yesterday. I always keep my equipment clean as best I can. When the paint is scratched off, I try to repair it as soon as possible. Mud and wood chips turn acidic sitting on equipment. This is my two cents worth.
