I heard this song at the end of "wakolda" an argentinean film, it blew my mind. The german doctor is the tittle of the movie in english if anyone is interested, nice little thriller
I rewatch this video every few weeks. They're all being pulled along by the thing. When Warren Ellis disappears into it towards the end it is hard not to cry. Astonishing every single time.
Saw them live 10 years ago. They played a gig at this venue that is basically an attic in an old building. It was one of the rawest concerts that ive been at. The thing that i remember the most was the kick drum. Jim White's tone and playing were incredible. Everything was so mesmerizing, people just stood and watched. Top3 concerts for me.
Saw them at a venue I worked at in Dublin 10 years ago .. Didn't realise what I was watching, at the time, incredible .. There is a full set here, a buc call Matthew T Ellery, the absolute legend, made it .. ua-cam.com/video/tJmMQZKESCw/v-deo.html
I have--and we were all so lucky for what was about to happen to us that night. The only gig I've been to where a violin made my ears ring for a couple hours afterward. Fantastic.
Because i live in Australia, and i have shitty internets even by their standards, it took me FOUR hours to buffer this all. It was absolutely worth it.
Wow. Just wow. I live for this. Music of such incredible greatness that knows no bounds. This right here is drugs for my brain, medicine for my soul and pure joy to my heart. I am so immesurably happy that music exists and that I can enjoy it. I can not put into words just how much it means to me and this right here is one of prime examples of why I adore it with all my being. I soar into worlds of thought and emotion with this. I Love This, I Love Music, I Love Cave's Music, Pink Floyd's, Post Rock, Ambient, Metal, Jazz, I Loveeeee it all to death and back. Thank God such amazingly talented people like this exist and that they're making such incredible art. I dont know how I could live without it. Simply, incredible beyond comprehandstion.
Well said Joe, very well said. And as a recommendation to you, the soundtrack to the movie "The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford" or something like that. Written by Cave and the violinist in this clip, Warren Ellis. (Personal favourite "Song for Bob") Hope you like it Mate 👍
It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of Annabel Lee; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me. I was a child and she was a child, In this kingdom by the sea, But we loved with a love that was more than love- I and my Annabel Lee- With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven Coveted her and me. And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the sea, A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee; So that her highborn kinsmen came And bore her away from me, To shut her up in a sepulchre In this kingdom by the sea. The angels, not half so happy in Heaven, Went envying her and me- Yes!-that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee. But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we- Of many far wiser than we- And neither the angels in Heaven above Nor the demons down under the sea Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling-my darling-my life and my bride, In her sepulchre there by the sea- In her tomb by the sounding sea.
Ok, amazing Warren and Nick, but the best part of this work of art is doubtless Jim White on the drums (and I say it as a violinist and Warren Ellis lover) Perfection.
I'm freaking muted in admiration for 4 of the best artists , yup my idols. How did you channel that so incredibly. All 4 fully Immersed in the creative flux, chained to some raw human experience, emotional intensity beyond language. Art is life, and hell, impossible not to fall into it sometimes. Beauty in pain as in joy, thanks Just relived the most intensely fckd personal experience, narcotic amnesiac delirium, Hypnotic, suffocating, soothing, lost blind and unstoppable, rollicking exploding heartache.. and woah... somehow, to convey that, hell, that was an uplifting hug from the best... thanks. Utterly love and respect you all, always. Grateful for your freakish intensity. Cheers NC/dirty3, . Marco
Powerful and beauty. The most exciting creation that four guys can create between the 4 walls of a hotel room. Ellis & Cave, without a doubt, form the best musical tandem of today. two geniuses & the best band than can them choose . after seeing live twice & hallucinating... I have clear...A third time.
I never knew Krusty the Clown could play the drums so well... All joking aside, this is just sublime. All praise to the dirty three and the God of our times, Nick Cave.
I can't imagine about another song that exactly fits for final scene of Wakolda with those amazing shots. Lilith' sadly face and her desperately running, crying of mum and so on.
This song is an absolute masterpiece. Seeing Warren in a perfect state of flow brings tears to my eyes.
idk what's it about the drums that make them amazing. i feel like i could watch the drummer play this all day

I wish I could have seen The Dirty Three live. This was beautiful.

This drummer is absolutly fantastic!!!
Check out xylouris white, he's in that duo
I could watch this daily and still be amazed
this song has just enhanced my vocabulary, with thoughts.
Because i live in Australia, and i have shitty internets even by their standards, it took me FOUR hours to buffer this all.

buffering = nostalgia

A room full of absolute geniuses.

And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre

@drag0nfly_girl And I love how Nabokov manages to both subtly and overtly reference it throughout Lolita. Such an amazing book.
South of no north - Anabelle Lee (greek darkwave)
A beautifully fitting poem
..depressingly optimistic..!!!!
Unbelievable..! So special gathering!!!!
