No it isn't... They did a study on these people after the show. They burn about 600 less calories a day. So they are semi doomed. Their bodies thought they were starving and slowed the metabolism a ton
when you choose not to eat and are morbidly obese...that is not starvation. Fat people who fast are subsisting on their fat stores. You can't starve until all of that fat is gone.
They gain weight back because the environment changes. They’ve gone from an environment where food and exercise is all they have to focus on. After the show they are back into their normal lives where they’re exposed to every day stressors, food triggers, and they’re faced with their old habits again. I’m sure it’s easy to fall back into the same eating habits once you’re home.
Coming from a trainer, the trainers on this show should have their certifications revoked. You do NOT help a morbidly obese person pose weight through high intensity training. You have to understand that when you are obese, that means you have too much body fat than your frame is genetically designed for. All of this adds an additional 100+ pounds of resistance to the joints of the body. This causes joint weakness and a slow of other issues, not to mention the high chance that a bone could break or a joint could go to shit. When you are morbidly obese, the first things you should think about are diet and walking. Walk way more (with breaks) stay really hydrated (it will help you shed water weight) and for the love of god PUT THE JUNK FOOD DOWN AND EAT SOME EGGS.
@@steppy3736 not only that, but its actually fact that 90 percent of people who go on The Biggest Loser gain back their weight and then some afterwards because there is no continued coaching from the shows trainers. Onelce these people are eliminated or the show ends, they go right back to making the same unhealthy choices or they just give up entirely on exercise and dieting because they arent getting rewarded from it. The reward on the show was a few pounds off the scale at the weigh in and a chance at not going home. Jillian Michaels wspecially is the worst because of her way of training by screaming and belittling an obese person.
Through my own personal experience, I truly know it is super hard to keep the weight off. I started a weight loss journey in 2015 with a personal trainer. We went from 320 to 215 in a year. It is 10 times harder to keep off once you lose it. I feel like my body is screaming to get back to its comfort zone of 330 but I try my hardest to overcome it. I continue to workout and try to eat healthy. Finding motivation and stress management is KEY. Looking at old pictures scare me, so it helps keep me on track.
The show is basically a study on crash diets and how they DON'T work. No post show treatment. No therapy. No cheat days. I really wish they did an episode that let contestant's them mix junk food into there diets to take the fear out of eating comfort foods and to teach balance.
eon001 Cheat days don’t have to exist and shouldn’t, you should eat healthy foods that you enjoy, That’s the only way you’ll be fit long term, having cheat days is bs
@@mdjdivjnjchcnxnx438 Well cheat day's work for millions of people around the world, and is much better than just abandoning a healthy routine and eating shit all week long like most of these contestants.
@@mdjdivjnjchcnxnx438 I mean, it depends. Having a 'cheat day' where you go in-all and binge is probably not good. But having a cheat day where you can maybe enjoy that 20% of balance and have a dessert, or a takeaway or something is perfectly fine.
@@eon001 Not necessarily cheat days but incorporate the junk food with the healthy food. So just eat the junk food after you have eaten your healthy meal that way you dont over eat junk food and get the healthy balanced foods with it.
@@akiraasmr3002 Yea I've been dong that. If I want a Pizza, I'll eat 2 bags of salad and tuna. If I'm still hungry I eat way less pizza than I normally would have. Most cases I don't eat the junk at all. Loads of water too.
@@uglybutstillgethoesboy6381 - I was responding to the OP. The lifestyle set on the show is 6 hrs a day of exercise. Real people can't commit to that. Point being the expectations set by the show are unrealistic. I'm not your buddy so you don't have to concern yourself with my relaxation.
Gaelin Wade i agree they r blaming themselves but they gained weight due extreme workout n restriction nothing they could've done to prevent starvation mode is real and people r ignorant it leads to uncontrollable b.e.d because the body is starving for nutrition plus the metabollic damage people need to lose weight w a sustainable lifestyle and not starve themselves 1200-1000 cal a day w daily workouts who burn at least 5 times more than that
2:40 I really felt that. I've recently lost 50 lbs and hit my ultimate goal weight (which is nowhere near how much these contestants lost, so I have no clue how hard it must be for them) and I think that people get too busy focusing on losing the weight that they don't think about what comes after it and the maintenance it takes to keep it off. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't fear gaining the weight back, I remember I use to dream that I was morbidly obese and it scared me so much. I eat right and exercise but that fear never leaves me. I'm always hungry for the wrong stuff because that's the stuff that brought me comfort. And when you have to fight the urge to crave that comfort that can be kinda depressing at times. I don't care what anybody says, you can have Gordon freaking Ramsey make the best salmon and broccoli, and salad, and etc but at least to me it'll never taste as good as Pizza, or burgers, or Soul food. Every time I eat junk food in moderation I feel like I gained 20 lbs back. People think when your weight changes, your mindset changes. But it's so easy to give in. My mom has successfully been cigarette-free for more than a decade but even the smell of a cigarette triggers her craving. It's kinda the same way with food. I've dreamed of getting into a swimsuit and then when I finally could get into it, I looked in the mirror and still saw big thighs and a huge belly and no matter who told me I looked good it was hard to see it myself. Here I worked hard to lose the weight and I can't even see the progress! It's still something I'm working on. I know I sound like a killjoy, I don't mean to discourage anyone trying to lose weight and increase their good health but PLEASE don't think it's sunshine and rainbows when you reach your goal. Please prepare a strong mind as well! Your mind is a part of your body and if you don't have a healthy mind you can't have a healthy body.
I feel you. I hope things are better for you now. (If they've gotten better, congratulations and don't read the rest of my comment---I don't want to trigger you.) Sometimes I feel guilty for "eating" something, but then I realize I didn't even eat it, only imagined myself eating it. I constantly prepare myself for my seemingly imminent, looming shortcomings. When I do eat something, I look at my face in the mirror and convince myself it's gotten bigger. I'm scared of my hunger. If you've read my comment, please don't hate yourself for things not getting better. Issues like this take the amount of time it takes for your brain to be happily adjusted with your new weight to go away. Anyhow, I hope things are better for you now.
Which is why how you lose it is so important. And making not not about losing weight but making lifestyle changes. This show was about losing weight, not eating and being healthy.
If that's what you believe then that's what you will experience. You need to enjoy living a life that maintains the weight you want to be. Not constantly thinking its hard to keep living at the weight you are
It just shows that the winners are as human is those who are the non winners and audience -- if they make up their mind to do something with enough encouragement they probably can do it.
I agree currently iam on keto 3rd week. But 3 days ago i had cheat day which turned out for me 2 and half cheat day. And i vowed not to have any cheat but cheat meal
Marikroyals depends on the mentality and willpower, if you get rid of junk food and then suddenly eat a cheat meal the diet would suddenly become harder and you would crave more sugar and junk. Thats why most diets with cheat meals fail.
I remember watching it when I was 300 pounds. I was so envious. Now I weigh 125 and I’ve kept it off for 8 years. People gain weight because they never addressed why they were eating and what food was a substitute for. Dieting is about fixing the mind more than exercising. I feel bad for all of them that gained back all the pounds.
Just me & How did you lose your weight? The latest studies say if you’ve kept it off for 8 years you’ll never gain it back. Congratulations to you! Wonderful! How did you lose your weight? Thank you.
The addiction/mental aspect of weight gain isn't talked about enough, foods are created in labs to be addictive and that's why it's so hard to stop eating them. Processed foods are created by chemists/scientists and not by cooks or chef's, have a look at the "bliss point" that these big food companies are trying to achieve and what they'll put into a product to make more sales, when Pringle's say "Once you've popped, you just can't stop", they know it's true. The vast majority of of obese/morbidly obese people are addicted to what they eat and in most cases are unaware that they are suffering from an acute addiction. Processed foods are created to make you feel good and in a short time crave more and not as a nutritious product that leaves you feeling full, if they were the profits of the big food companies would dive. I am a recovering alcoholic and took a long time to get sober and remain that way, I work with obese people in my professional life and see a striking amount of similarities between their struggle with their weight and my struggle with alcohol. The solution for my alcoholism was to totally abstain from alcohol, eat healthily, exercise, get in touch with my spiritual side and to learn from other sober alcoholics how they'd achieved and maintained their sobriety. I had to understand that it was the first drink that did the damage, if I didn't pick up the first drink then I couldn't get drunk, it's the same with processed food, if you don't open that bag of chips then you can't eat that bag of chips. I also had to learn that alcoholism never becomes alcoholwasm, I will always be an alcoholic but I can stay sober if I do what I need to do and remain vigilant, this applies to most obese people, you will probably always crave processed foods, you have to get used to it and learn how to deal with it, it's a lifelong journey but doesn't have to be a lifelong battle; a wiser long time sober alcoholic told me once, "The secret to happiness is to learn to like what you do rather than to do what you like".
Right on! Congrats on your sober journey! Everything you said is 100% true. Don't even start down that slippery slope. Just like it would be asking for trouble if someone in your position said, "I'm just going to have this one drink and then I'll go back to not drinking again," it's foolish for someone who has lost weight and is trying to continue keeping it off to start eating sugar and processed foods again. Easy way to fall back into their old eating habits. Love that quote! Very wise indeed!!
The fact that over 90% of the winners gained back their weight is proof of so many misconceptions we have about obesity. It’s not just about diets and exercise. People are addicted to food because processed foods are addictive substances. It’s different going away to recover from drinking or drugs but we need to eat to live and choosing between a salad and burgers and fries is much harder than saying no to alcohol. Especially when our culture normalizes eating for fun or pleasure, like e deserve it. No one deserves to be shamed for food addiction.
Contrarian DC It’s not complex and has been studied like crazy and comes down to calories VS calories out which is very simple, the reason everyone isn’t obese is because of will power and knowledge knowing that eating too much will make you fat which will lead to other medical coditions
I’m a licensed healthcare professional. The food industry has created processed foods known to be more addictive than cocaine. These studies have been proven through neuroimaging. The only reason the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders cannot create a FoodAddiction diagnosis is because health insurance companies made huge investments in both the food industry and big pharma. And the FDA is scared to put a warning label on Tony the Tiger’s face. Big pharma created a drug to treat Binge Eating Disorder which essentially blames the individual for lacking willpower. While I agree that our wellbeing requires personal accountability how much willpower should individuals be expected to have when we’re in essentially surrounded by cheap, heavily marketed, processed foods? If a person has drug or alcohol addiction they can stop using that substance forever but we have to eat to live. Would we ask a recovering meth addict to just take less meth? Processed food addiction needs to be viewed the same way. Many people are physiologically incapable of stopping themselves from eating processed foods. That’s not a personal weakness. It’s a medical fact. That being said, recovery from food addiction is 100% possible by eliminating individual trigger foods from your diet, working with a therapist, doctor and nutritionist to create a meal plan which will have to be followed for the rest of your life. We’re seeing people fail who’ve had ‘weight loss surgery’ or have tried other radical interventions because none of those interventions are outright acknowledging the physical addiction and toxic cultural component fueled by the media, which makes it easier for us to lie to ourselves and say one Twinkie is harmless or it’s normal to binge at the holidays. Sorry friends, can o’ worms. Also, I care about people.
e Born in Providence “ Licensed Healthcare professional “ doesn’t make you an expert, everything can be addictive and not everyone is 100 pounds overweight and eating doesn’t stop one from moving , go ahead eat what you want and go work out for 2 hours , excuses excuses
@@JH-hx2cl When a cheeseburger is 1 dollar and a salad is 5, it isn't really a discipline issue. I can get a frozen pizza for the same price as a small salad. I can get three cookies at walmart for a dollar. Our health issue is an economic issue, more than anything else. On top of that, fast food is designed to be as addictive as possible and have you coming back for more. Being healthy is an uphill battle in the US. I remember listening to a podcast by CGP Grey, Hello Internet, and the Australian cohost visited America for the first time and gained 5 pounds after a week due to how much food is marketed cheaply.
It feels so good to eat junk food especially when being stressed, but it feels so much more better to be light and healthy (junk food occasionally though)
That's how I feel. I'm on a keto lifestyle for the past 3 weeks and I feel soooooo good. More energy, better digestion and clearer skin. I feel great. I don't miss the being bloated and having heartburn... Although I miss chocolates and chips and pizza! 😂
@@mpumephakathi6200 I have been on the keto diet for 14 months and have lost 150 pounds! I am continuing on and do not feel deprived because there are ways to make sweet snacks and other "junk" foods keto friendly. Intermittent fasting also helps... It can help keep you feeling full longer and to me feeling hungry is the hardest part of losing weight!
I have lost 30+ pounds on several different weight loss programs for TV or infomercials but have ALWAYS gained it back plus some. 5’5” and weighed in at over 200 lbs at the beginning of the year. I certainly have issues with soda and emotional eating. It’s so hard and I feel for these people.
Need to bring back a better show that we can exercise along with them. To make a healthy life style more appealing, Drop the stressful ways...We need a "Feel Good Show"
Rhonda Bailey USA is bringing back “The Biggest Loser”, but they say they’re gonna focus on overall health and wellness as opposed to just numbers on the scale. They want to stay away from the old show’s methods.
The reason why all these people gain the weight back is simple, losing weight so fast can hurt your metabolism. That's not the main reason though. The problem is these people aren't actually learning how to lose the weight and keep it off. What they do is all these challenges to lose weight super fast. They are never helped with learning how all the weight loss happens. Losing weight is something where you have to change how you live, you can't just go on a diet and exercise for 5 months and expect to keep the weight off. I've changed how I lived and I know how to lose weight easily. I used to weigh 240 and now I'm 170.
I can't fault the contestants for signing up for the show. Most probably wanted the discipline to lose the weight and learn new habits. Unfortunately, what they did while losing weight on the show was not realistic to keep up on a daily basis. The show should have offered psychological training too and support to the contestants once they left the show. They weren't obligated to but I bet if they did the show would still be on today.
I speak from experience when I say this. Keeping the weight off is the hardest part. You didn't get that big in the first place because you ate healthy and exercised. It is sooooo unbelievably easy to fall back into your old habits. All it takes is one cheat day. Then it leads to 2 days, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, a month and then you find yourself spiraling out of control until you put back on alot of weight if not most of the weight you lost. I lost 100 in 10 months(250-150). Gained 50 in 4 months. Lost 50lbs in 4 months(200-150) and gained 40 in the following 3 months. I'm currently down 22lbs and hoping to never go back..... Like I said, keeping the weight off is the hardest part.
I feel so bad for Vincent, she looked great and when she said "mindless drinking and eating" I felt that. Like it has to do a lot with mentality. I feel like losing weight is so hard
When I was fat, I wanted to hear that I could lose the extra weight FAST, and the slow route seemed torturous to me. But I was scared off diets by talk of yo-yo weight loss and that it increasingly becomes harder the more you lose, gain it back and then try again. So I was one of the people who seemed to have accepted that they are fat, because I was unsure I could maintain the weight loss. Life happened, and various circumstances including a change of diet and prolonged Illness led to an incredible weight loss. So I had to learn about food and health not only to improve my health, but to reach my goal and maintain the weight loss. I'm still on that journey, and going the slow and healthy route. It's hard work, and seeing what happened to most of the winners here, I'm grateful my wish to lose the weight fast was never granted.
I did water therapy for 28 days. I lost 67 lbs. I was 287 lbs at 6'4. And 4 months in the gym, I was in my ideal shape. That was 11 years ago. The only reason I was able to keep the weight is because I ate food that catered to my needs. Heavy breakfast + 1 hr jog before going to work and 1hr gym after work and some cereal for dinner. I'm more excited to eat breakfast cause at dinnertime, I'd mostly be tired by then. And even if I wanted to stay longer at the gym, I always told myself...there's always tomorrow. Even when I'm tempted to eat large portions of food, I'd think...you'll be a having a huge crap the next day so what's the use of overeating. That's why losing weight has always been a lifestyle choice. If you surround yourself with friends who think going to buffets equates to brunch, or friends who makes you feel guilty once you tell them you're planning on losing weight, then I think it's time for a new set of friends. I quit smoking 5 years ago, and this buddy of mine kept on shoving a ciggy on my face or blowing smoke to my face, so as to tempt me. I confronted him and said, "Bud. Smoking is an addiction. If you're not gonna help me quit and you're actually a part of that problem, then I'm sorry but I can't see you until I get through this. Are we good?" He looked like I had just broken up with him, which was funny, and he stayed away for a month but we kept contact. Every addiction is a lifestyle choice imo. And weight lost is a habit that needs to be your choice, not others. I know it sounds cliche, but cliches offer some truth to it.
Lots of the time the first time around a large weight loss is done unhealthy and quick. Then you gain back then second time around you do it more healthy and slow and realize you need to lose in a way you can sustain. Dont ever lose hope you can beat obesity never give up ❤💪❤
I remember watching this a few years back and I just felt so bad for the contestants...they didn’t even get any help after the show. How do you expect your lifestyle to do a 180 after only a few short weeks. They should have gotten better structures
Unless you fix your relationship with food, you’re more than likely to regain all the weight back plus some. I’ve went from 350lbs to 225lbs in a year and a half, it was so frustrating because it was slow but I’m glad I chose slow because it let me learn a lot more and I still got more weight to lose but Im bought in and trust the process.
I lost 58 kilograms in 2018 it took 7 months. ..I feel great and all I did was stop sugar and eat one main meal a day. Keeping it off because I addressed my emotional eating. .as in got my head read and am beating the crap out of depression
In my own experience, I feel for these people, I myself lost about 80 pounds and kept it off for about four years until depression and family matters affected me and I pretty much gained the weight all back.. it really is hard to train and maintain your body to get used to new diets when you’ve been pretty much use to your old bad habits your whole life, keeping weight off is very difficult after you lose it.
A healthy diet, exercise and other lifestyle changes need to be maintained for life not just for a set period of time. I'm a recovering alcoholic and am 20 years sober, I was very lucky to have a bit of tough love from an AA member who told me that the secret to overcoming my alcoholism was "Not to do what I like, but to learn to like what I have to do", I've worked at enjoying the things that are good for me, putting down the drink and replacing it with exercise is the greatest thing that I've ever done. I lost 20 kilos in 3 months, just from not drinking and then joined (yet another) gym and fell in love with the "rush" that I get from exercise; I realised that I needed to not just give up alcohol but to replace it with something else and thank god for that AA members words of wisdom. I'm now 54 and eat healthily and exercise 3 times a week and try to mix up weights, cardio and resistance work. I agree with lots of the other comments regarding processed foods being engineered to be addictive, but this addiction can be beaten and you have to remember that lifestyle choices need to be for life, one day a t a time.
I met Danny Cahill at a health fair in Fort Dodge Iowa. I didn't know who he was but after he told me his story I bought his book. He autographed it for me! He is a really nice guy!
As a person who had gastric bypass and losing 120 pounds so quickly, sometimes you can’t stand the extra skin, bat wings or wrinkles that fat can disguise. I was 288 at my heaviest, people told me I was as too thin, I looked too old. Made me think 200 was my perfect weight goal. I agree. Now 10 years later, I am dieting again to lose 26 pounds to my perfect weight of 200. I’m 5’10”.
Studies show that people who keep off the weight exercise one hour daily and log their food consistently. I am one of the 5%. 283 lbs to 143, maintaining 3 years now.
9:12. I remember Rachel. I believed she deserved to win, though I never thought I would see a 105 on that scale in my life. She was my favorite contestant that season beginning to end. She did good.
Amazing video! This reminded me of my late aunt Winona, she made a chicken lasagna with parmesan and spinach and to this day it is still the most delicious food I have ever had, most likely. I've tried explaining the dish to both my ex and current wife, but no luck having it the way aunt Winona made it (especially not with my ex wife, good golly). Last time I had that lasagna was before her health started to decline in the early 90s, she lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa and I was passing through on a business trip. Or maybe it was a stop on my way to Sioux City for that disappointing Santana concert, my memory is not entirely safe to trust these days ha-ha :-)
While I do not suffer from excess weight personally, I loved this show for how many people it motivated to find better health and wellness in their own lives.
One thing I learn is that Weight Gain and loss can be like any other addiction. Using myself as an example. I was mostly skinny growning up and I hit a wall when I turned 22. There in a year due to bad mental circumstances gained like 50 pounds in less than a year. Did I notice the weight gain over the months? Of course, but I still kept gaining weight. Well I went from being 140 to 190 and couldn't even run anymore. Now when I finally decided to do something about it. I dropped weight to 170 pretty fast since I kept strict to a diet and exercise. Well I slacked again and went back to 185. Now currently I am loosing weight again and am currently at 179. From that I learned that it doesn't matter if you magically make the weight dissappear. And watching the biggest looser I realized that most of these contestants went through that experience. Of course they worked out and put in the effort, but they had a couple things most of them would lack outside of the show. And that is a trainer, cook, and time. It's like any other celebrity from movies. Sure you can respect the effort they do for body transformations, but in reality they have people doing most of the work for them. They have a cook who makes sure they eat healthy, they have a trainer who makes the schedule, and they have access to equipment. All they have to do is show up and do the work. Basically like all of us who go to work regularly
I'm really hoping someone out there has an answer to this question: Why didn't contestants on The Biggest Loser need skin reduction surgery??? When on Every Other weight loss show (Extreme Make-over; My 600lb Life; there are quite a few more but their titles escape me at the moment, etc), the successful dieters have been left with giant swaths of heavy, hanging skin that needs to literally be cut off the body!!!! This has bothered me for Years. ...(and yes, the fact that i've even thought about this for more than a nano-second disturbs me even more)
Maybe it's the vast amount of exercise. They did 4 to 6 hours of exercise a day. I notice particularly with weight training, I have less noticeable loose skin.
I tried many crash diets and exercised a lot, ate almost nothing, until I couldn't stand that kind of life anymore. But now, slow and steady wins the race. You need to get used to less and less calories and a healthier lifestyle. I am not surprised at all that many participants of the show gained weight again.
Those poor people , no wonder they put the weight back on ! Starvation diets and extreme workouts will never work in the long run , the more you restrict calories the slower your metabolism gets , and you are always hungry . The best way to sustainable weight loss is the Ketogenic diet , low carb , moderate protein , high healthy fats . You are never hungry and the weight just drops off easily . The old method just doesn’t work , and after people fail they feel guilty , but it’s not their fault !
Aye, they mess up metabolism and their adrenals burn out with all the exercise with low calorie/low fat diet. And peeps will just say theyre just greedy fuckers when its their body that is fubar. When I tried telling colleagues about keto they really hated me saying it and yet their low cal low fat diets didnt work for them. I on the other hand, lost weight despite being hypothyroid. Still cant get under a certain weight so still have other stuff going on medically....but one day ;)
Losing is easy, but keeping it off is the real struggle. I lost, regained, lost it again...now I'm trying as hard as I can not to have to go through that cycle again. It's crazy.
Past Jimmy, a then large and out of shape Biggest Loser contestant: "Let me start with saying...I hate burpees." Me now, a fresh fitness junkie who lost 80 lbs, exercises intensely everyday, and does burpees a lot for fun: "Ain't that the truth."
This is why nutrition should be the focus. Being consistent is tough but it was easier for me to focus on nutrition first and then exercise and forget dieting! Just make a healthy lifestyle your focus and then something sweet here or there won't mess you up.
Eversince HS I had been very conscious about my weight. I really put so much effort on dieting and exercising... Then when I reached 29, I got tired of dieting and exercising, I was just fed up! then I lost my discipline and ate everything I wanted... in just a couple of weeks/ months i gained 22kg!!!! I tried to go back to my old habit of dieting and exercising but I just could not do it!! Now I understand how obese people feels!! Now I am 34, still dieting and exercising and lost 17kg over the years.. but I am still 5 kg overweight!! once I got my weight back.. I would never ever lose control again.. I used to judge these obese people before, but now I understand them...
eating is an addiction, and it is emotional which is why all these people with depression/mental health issues put on weight. losing weight isn't the problem, mental health is.
Rachel Frederickson was an amaaaaaazing swimmer when she was a teen. One of the fastest 100 Fly high school swimmers in the nation. I didn't watch this show, but I'm glad she won! You swim that fast, you are an incredible athlete..... Wish she would have gone on and swam NCAA in college.....
That makes perfect sense to me. I was a competitive swimmer when I was young, which meant I ate A LOT. Then after college, I still had that appetite but I wasn’t working out nearly as much. I gained a lot of weight, lost it all, and now I’m finding my ideal balance! Swimming really transforms your body and lifestyle. I feel for her.
As a person who has been going through weight loss journey for a year now, I can honestly say that crash diets/routines do not work if you dont continue with them. When you take 5 months of eating only greens and your schedule consisting of primarily workouts - the minute you change all that, even if you still eat healthy and work out regularly, if it isn't the same extreme routine - the results will be different...
It can happen to all of us if we don't stick to a sustainable plan. I remember I tried keto for 2 months and lost about 15 pounds. I went back to my old diet and eating times and literally 6 months later I regained all of the 15 and added another 5. I have now been doing a basic low carb (I don't eat bread, pasta or sugar, but everything else like fruits, legumes, rice is fair game in balance) and intermittent fasting (eating at 12 pm and 6pm). Haven't gained any weight since then, steadily losing about 0.75 lbs a week and it's a pretty sustainable plan so I'm grateful to have found something that works for me.
This video definitely shows that extreme, fast weight loss ist sadly not sustainable. I lost the weight in 2012 and thanks to very healthy habits I was able to stay stable. Such shows should teach people how to change on the long term.
I watched a video a long time ago that a strict regimen of diet and exercise like that of the biggest loser actually lowers your metabolism. That's why it is imperative to maintain the level of diet and exercise they have undergone. And due to the lowered metabolism, they will regain the weight they lost and possibly more if they went back to their diets before the show.
they need to be taught a healthy way of eating that will fit their lifestyle, like keto, intermittent fasting, water fasting, dry fasting, vegetarian, vegan, paleo , etc...
I love watching reality shows, but never saw this one in particular, at the end of the video I thought to myself "I'm Gonna watch this show" and realized I just spoiled all seasons lol
I felt the same way until I got rid of unhealthy carbs in my diet. Only then did my cravings go away. If you haven't looked into a keto diet, I urge you to do so! It changed my life! Good luck to you! ❤️
Elle Bee I started about 10 weeks ago and is now down 28 lbs. I eat 3 meals and day and get to have 2 cups of coffee a day. I love Keto. I walk 3 miles a day at a brisk pace so I don’t feel like I’m dying which would probably make me quit. Wish I discovered Keto a long time ago.
@@tippytoe1250 OMG, wow!! It sounds like you're doing amazingly well!! Congrats and I'm so glad you're feeling better! I'm down 80 lbs in 6 months and am now walking a mile several times a week. I just have 20 more lbs to go before I reach my goal and Keto has made it so achievable. Let us both keep on at it and reach our goal.
I never watched the show so I don't know the diet method they used. I've lost 50 kgs through Keto and OMAD which address the issue most fat people have: Insulin resistance. If you're insulin resistant you simply cannot burn stored fat when insulin is present, and insulin spikes every time you eat carbs. The hardest part of keto is keeping under 20 grams of carbs a day. Consume more than that and you'll regain all your weight.
That’s why I made the decision 2 months ago to stay on a low carb diet. I’d done low carb before and lost a lot of weight, but then gained it all back after I quit. I’m too old to keep yo-yoing. I maintain a low carb keto diet with one cheat day each week. I do the cheat day because I can have something I want to eat, and it keeps me straight. I look forward to it. I’ve lost 17 pounds in the last 2 months and I’m very happy! I can do this forever!
My life changed when I realized weight loss doesn't have to be hard. I feel so much for everyone who hasn't figured this out yet 🙁 I struggled so much and almost gave up on myself before finding the solution. So glad I kept trying. Remember this, if it's difficult for you to loose the weight it's going to be difficult to keep it off. It's not the way. I wish happiness and great health to everyone who reads this ❤ Don't ever give up on yourself.
The problem is they where starving themselves and that leads to binge eating
No it isn't... They did a study on these people after the show. They burn about 600 less calories a day. So they are semi doomed. Their bodies thought they were starving and slowed the metabolism a ton
when you choose not to eat and are morbidly obese...that is not starvation. Fat people who fast are subsisting on their fat stores. You can't starve until all of that fat is gone.
@@devinberry4429 what they did on the show, production and trainers was extremely dangerous
The problem is the appetite, too bad they didn’t have Ozempic back then
Coming from a trainer, the trainers on this show should have their certifications revoked.
Finally, someone who has some sense! I can't imagine how much damage those trainers did to those people & their bodies.
@@EzioPlays That statistic is true of all people who lose weight, and or is due to all of the same reasons. The show definitely needs to do better
I don't even think the trainers really structure these programs, they can't
Yesss!
Check out Dr Ken Berry. Maintaining a healthy weight does not require a personal trainer.
Hope you're still doing well
It’s all about appetite, try Ozempic
It's hard to maintain. You have to be committed it's a life style.
Most people can't commit to a lifestyle of working out 6 hours a day.
Gaelin Wade You just need a 30min -1 hr workout relax buddy it’s quality over quantity
Gaelin Wade i agree
they r blaming themselves but they gained weight due extreme workout n restriction nothing they could've done to prevent
starvation mode is real and people r ignorant it leads to uncontrollable b.e.d because the body is starving for nutrition plus the metabollic damage
people need to lose weight w a sustainable lifestyle and not starve themselves 1200-1000 cal a day w daily workouts who burn at least 5 times more than that
Gaelin Wade real people? I think it's just a matter of priorities. I have work, but still give time to workout 4-5 times a week.

I really felt that.
That's perhaps the most brutally honest confession anyone can ever write. The triggered cravings and hunger all the time are the real challenges.
I feel you. I hope things are better for you now. (If they've gotten better, congratulations and don't read the rest of my comment---I don't want to trigger you.)
Sometimes I feel guilty for "eating" something, but then I realize I didn't even eat it, only imagined myself eating it.
It is much easier to lose weight than to maintain it!!!Unfortunately i know how hard it is😭😭😭
Which is why how you lose it is so important. And making not not about losing weight but making lifestyle changes. This show was about losing weight, not eating and being healthy.
Watch Gary Taubes Good Calories, Bad Calories and Battle of The Diets. Also good, The Oiling of Americas. These are life healing videos.
If that's what you believe then that's what you will experience. You need to enjoy living a life that maintains the weight you want to be. Not constantly thinking its hard to keep living at the weight you are
Losing weight is a joke to me but maintaining is so hard 😭😭 I can lose 20lb in 2 Weeks but keeping it off is different story
People don’t realize that the shows way of losing weight is SUPER unhealthy for anyone, especially people of that size.
But how about the early non-winners? Have any of those who didn't even make it to the finale lose to their goals and keep it off?
It just shows that the winners are as human is those who are the non winners and audience -- if they make up their mind to do something with enough encouragement they probably can do it.
Well f you dont have a banana iq the video is about the winners not the non winners
But how about the people dying in Gaza how come they're not in this video. Its because it's not the topic.
Right Now All the Others Early Non-Winner People Are Also Soooooo F A T
@Fau Q Asshole. I have spent my life losing weigh. What is your problem?
It's ok to have a cheat day. Just eat right the other 6 days out the week
Cheat meal is better, a whole day can easily get out of hand I reckon
I agree currently iam on keto 3rd week. But 3 days ago i had cheat day which turned out for me 2 and half cheat day. And i vowed not to have any cheat but cheat meal
No its not, even a cheat meal is wrong
@@user-hv2xe5ed9g It all depends on the person and what works for the individual, not everyone is the same.
Thank you.
Congratulations! Well done
I lost a bunch of weight and kept most of it off. You're 100 percent right.
Lifestyle change for me is the way to maintain weight loss. As well as mental fitness is key.
Stop making excuses, people live for their bellys, it's there God, you fat slob
If food is medicine, then chefs are “doctors”.
I think the show needed to work more on people psychological feelings towards food rather than just make them lose weight
Don’t blame the food blame the person , god you people always find a way to blame anything but the person and you make them the victim lol
You’re right. I can’t parallel park, do algebra or cook. And I’m probably addicted to UA-cam commenting.
The percentage of people who gain weight back shows you that this show was unrealistic.

@@JH-hx2cl When a cheeseburger is 1 dollar and a salad is 5, it isn't really a discipline issue. I can get a frozen pizza for the same price as a small salad.

Weight loss isn’t dieting, it’s a lifestyle. I know it’s cliche and repetitive, but dieting isn’t healthy. Change your life, not your diet.

I am glad to hear that a bunch of these people are taking care of themselves
At last a positive comment. And true!

take care of your body and it will take care of you! this is a never ending process and a lifetime commitment!
To anyone attempting to live a healthy lifestyle: Its a lifestyle, not temporary.
It’s difficult from going to trainers daily and money motivation to having to depend on yourself to continue.

Still cant get under a certain weight so still have other stuff going on medically....but one day ;)
Ursula Eissner well said👍🏿
Lipo?
Well I had to re-read that title about 10 times
This is why it should start with the Mind it’s not food and work out first.
Losing is easy, but keeping it off is the real struggle. I lost, regained, lost it again...now I'm trying as hard as I can not to have to go through that cycle again. It's crazy.
it's okay to have dreams, but do not set those goals as a finish line, because fitness has no finish line
Wow, very nice! Never thought of it that way. Thank you!
well said Geoff
🎉💪🏼Olivia from season 11 was always my favorite!
Past Jimmy, a then large and out of shape Biggest Loser contestant: "Let me start with saying...I hate burpees."
Me now, a fresh fitness junkie who lost 80 lbs, exercises intensely everyday, and does burpees a lot for fun: "Ain't that the truth."
This is why nutrition should be the focus. Being consistent is tough but it was easier for me to focus on nutrition first and then exercise and forget dieting! Just make a healthy lifestyle your focus and then something sweet here or there won't mess you up.
Like a foster kid being taken into a good home, then getting kicked out 6 months later. The odds are bad 🤷♂️
Okay but can we talk about how that girl was pedaling in that soul cycle class.
Omg right
@@malcolmbaldwin5735 wtf
I'm a cycling instructor and my butt hurt watching her bounce all over like that 😆
Losing weight is pretty straight forward. It’s changing the habits that really test you
eating is an addiction, and it is emotional which is why all these people with depression/mental health issues put on weight. losing weight isn't the problem, mental health is.
Exactly. This is an entertainment show, not a therapy. At least they learned some ways to loose weight.
This show was my childhood lol
Dani Allen looked so great in the finale. Those muscles!
Sadly he's fat again
I wish the show would come back on TVI was always looking forward to it every season.
Same
This video definitely shows that extreme, fast weight loss ist sadly not sustainable. I lost the weight in 2012 and thanks to very healthy habits I was able to stay stable. Such shows should teach people how to change on the long term.
Netflex has a similiar show called “ bring sexy back “. Its ok show.
Their idea of fasting is not eating the entire time they're taking a shet
I always felt that there was too much strain on the heart when pushing these folk so hard. It's a wonder nobody died
Can you make a list to "not the winner" of the biggest loser yet become slimmer outside the show.
Well the show probably didn’t keep up with them after
Motivation truly keeps me going and if I lose that I’m done
I love watching reality shows, but never saw this one in particular, at the end of the video I thought to myself "I'm Gonna watch this show" and realized I just spoiled all seasons lol
2004 goes 16 seasons and cancelled in 2016. My math is off. Brain confused.
Some years filmed 2 seasons
The problem with shows like this is that they don't lose weight in a sustainable way. Very few people can or will train like that every day.
“Weight” is not that important. Several of these ppl gained weight but were still healthy
And obviously happier. You can't look like you're 19 forever. That's impossible.
Bring this show back
I always crave fast food even when working out so whats the point
MagicalMonaa that’s why it’s a challenge, you HAVE to be able to control it.
I've been stuck in bed for a decade after being diagnosed with MS and keto has totally changed my life! Sending Love to you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Elle Bee Thank you and Wow! 80 lbs is a great achievement. Congratulations and I’m happy it’s help improve your health and quality of life greatly. Keto has sure helped me.
You know, you have to maintain your diet and workout after losing weight, so you can preserve ur weight.
It's so interesting cause when they loose weight they look so much more attractive, their skin glows and they have light in their eyes.
As I always say, it is not about changing habbits for a few months, it is about changing habbits forever.
She just needs surgery on her ovaries to remove the cysts. It's a surprisingly common procedure now.
That show was such an inspiration on so many levels
My life changed when I realized weight loss doesn't have to be hard. I feel so much for everyone who hasn't figured this out yet 🙁 I struggled so much and almost gave up on myself before finding the solution. So glad I kept trying. Remember this, if it's difficult for you to loose the weight it's going to be difficult to keep it off. It's not the way. I wish happiness and great health to everyone who reads this ❤ Don't ever give up on yourself.
