  • I have begun the process of removing the old crusty trailer house from our new off grid property. Once it is all removed I can then start on our new cabin build. #diy #homestead #offgrid

      DITTO, Don't give up. Devellop a plan and work the plan. I'm pushing 60 and just bought some land. My plan was, 1) Pay off credit card/petty debt - check. 2) Get some kind of basic dwelling -check. 3) Get rid of mortguage/lease payment. 4) Use mortguage/rent money to improve dwelling - check . . . I did it 15 yrs ago with a wife and 3 kids. It comes down to, how bad do you want it ? 3 helps are solar lights, composting toilet(5 gal bucket/ sawdust) and hauling water. The farther out of town, the fewer rules

      My wife and I started living our off grid dream in our mid 50s. What I know now I would’ve done this years ago like Kyle‘s age. It’s never too late. We absolutely love it. It’s a lot of hard work but very rewarding. We are building our house and we are totally off at no power no water, I’ve come to realize that you don’t need the big house on the hill and it’s amazing. What little you actually really need!

    My grandpa would tell me to just handle it. I’ve come to realize what that meant for his generation. They had little but their hands. No time to think how they could not do something. Just dove in and handled it. I see you do that time and time again. Thanks for taking the time to share and remind a generation what hard work can deliver.

      My grandparents raised me and they were the same. They never talked about it, they just did it and I learned by example. I’m over 50 now and it’s a good feeling to look at what you’ve accomplished by hard work and materials you already have.

    Here is a thought on the trailer frame instead of cutting it up! Make a sawmill bed! I am sure you know a back yard welder that could build a head (part that cuts the wood) You could save money and once you have a sawmill making your own lumber is very satisfying! as lumber in a box store is expensive. I am sure you have enough frame their to make a 30 foot bed. Well just a idea and that roll up door I would save that as you can put it in a small shop you may have down the road if nothing else you could always sell it!

    I remember when we took apart my mobile home, it was a hell of a lot easier with a mini excavator. I know you know that, but I have to say it. I did get a lot of useful steel out of it though. Maybe yours will have some too, and that will give you, many possibilities.😊

    Consider using some of the 2x4s to make a deck to set the tent on. A little off the ground to keep you dry. I would make piles. Metal, construction waste, etc. I think the siding would bring in a fair price. Might help offset a dump trailer. Keep up the good work. Cheers

    I did the same job you’re doing one time on my property where I built my house. There was an old hunting camp trailer and I demolished it by myself. I used a sawzaw with a long wood cutting blade. A big sledgehammer and a big prybar and I cut it out in pieces and sections. I rented a dumpster and put it all inside the dumpster. Then I rented a large grinder and cut the frame into pieces and sold the scrap steel along with the old stove. The best tool that I used for doing this was the saw with the long woodcutting blade, It was easy to cut sections of it out with the saw in small manageable pieces. Good times.😅

    Totally impressed with your willingness to take on these daunting projects. I know Sierra appreciates all you do for your family. I think you'll make a great dad. Just a suggestion, you could burn all that wood scrap and then use one of those magnetic pickups with wheels on it to collect all the nails and metal. I burned a bunch of stuff like that with nails and screws and it worked well. Had to go through it about six times to get it all, but it cleaned them all up. Love the videos, really excited for you guys. I laughed when you said it's in the 80's and really hot. I live in Florida so it's in the 80's at 6 o clock in the morning.

  • @user-ot7ly7nw7x
    @user-ot7ly7nw7x Місяць тому +2

    If you burn all the wood then you can go over the burn site with a high power magnet. if you put the magnet in a bag, then you can turn the bag inside out and pull the nails off, and they are already bagged. Might have to go over it a couple of times. Will save a lot of dragging to the dump.
