This is an incredibly well put together video, and it's criminal it doesn't have more views! Would love to see more videos on the morality and politics of Star Wars!
4:27 Hi, I'd like to correct you on something. In Season 7, Episode 6 of The Clone Wars, Ahsoka talks about how "we could take the spice to a place where they can be used for medicine," so yes, in canon, the spice is also used as medicine.
spice is not a specific substance but rather a blanket term for all drugs in the star wars universe in general, including death sticks, glitterstim, ryll, and some would argue even kolto and bacta.
You're assuming that spice is illicit in every context within the franchise. This is not the case. There are several instances where characters talk about its medicinal properties.
This was a really interesting video, I can't say I've thought much about Spice beyond it's most basic "it's a nebulous bad drug that bad guys trade" but I think everything you talk about with the empire and it's cycle of Drug distribution is fascinating. I don't know if you follow the video games side of things but Star Wars: Outlaws was just announced, a game set during the empire era where you play as a smuggler, so I'm sure we'll get tons of spice in there and I find my self suddenly very interested in how exactly that's portrayed.
Really insightful video! I have no doubt that this video will blow up in views! As a long time Star Wars fan and super nerd, you even surprised me with explaining a lot of the deep lore tidbits I have struggled piecing together!
their are multiple kinds of spice. spice is basically a umbrella term for "illegal recreational drug" for instance solo wasn't hauling generic spice he was hauling glitter-ril (s?)
Archon is right, "Spice" just means "Space Drugs" . And it was Glitter that Han was smuggling, with the rils bit being a specific form of the drug. Think crack instead of Tony. Its all coke, but very different. Further more, not all spices are equally damaging or illegal. Theres a special fungus paste that some people will smear on their skin, its bright purple, and stains the skin. But you just stop needing to sleep for a few days. Youre not like, trippin balls or anything. You're just awake. Ita only really consodered spice because people can get addicted to the no sleep life. I forget its name, it starts with an L.
amazing video!! it gave me a new point of view. also i never noticed how EVERY time, spice is the lesser evil. i need to rewatch some of the criminal world focused episodes of tcw so bad nowww like. the one where asajj and boba meet. i didn't notice it there

I always felt like the death sticks scene was poking fun at DARE/just say no (great video)

i smoked spice once and woke up with a top hat in full clown makeup on the floor of my apartment. Crazy shit. Can't believe that stuff exists
I don't know why I read this in a clone's voice but it fit perfectly
this was really good. i always thought it was weird how spice seems to be the only drug that exists in starwars.

Disney bud light star wars makes you want to take them
Excellent video but please refrain from referring to the '80-'90's as "the late 19 hundreds" for at least another decade??
It is the late 19 hundreds though.
At first I thought they made a mistake and meant the 1800s but then it hit me it was completely deliberate and now I feel old.
