This is the most comprehensive, easy to understand video about making cyanotypes for beginners that I’ve come across. Thanks so much for making it!
Hello thank you, very glad it was helpful. I know this whenever I do alternative process posts on my Instagram as well they're usually much better received than my photography posts
R.I.P Aloy. You'll be greatly missed. Thank you for all the great content you provided us with over the years. I'm so greatful for all the camera tips and lens advice you were always happy to give me. Sending love and condolences to your family, here from the UK🙏🏽😇.
I literally just discovered this channel, and I am saddened to set your above comment @Official Tim Cruz.
My condolences to Aloy Anderson's (Ray Christopher's) family and friends.
I was impressed from the moment I clicked on this video.
Sad :( R.I.P. @RayChristopher
That's so sad? He got sick from cvd19?
Wow, this is the very first video I’ve seen of his. Seemed like a nice guy.
I'm really glad I found this channel, not just for the good information itself, but the way you present just makes me very happy.
Awww thanks. Yes I try not to waste your time or be too annoying. Respect
Ray, thank you for generously sharing your experience in Cyanotype, in such a clear and effective manner!
You are one of the best teachers on UA-cam!!!! Thank you!
Thank you very much!
You have a great personality btw.
Hi! That was the clearest most straightforward explanation of this process that I have seen! Thanks so much!
I spent so long trying to find a good video explaining in detail without just talking to talk and WOW, thank you. You encouraged me to start!!!
Thanks so much. All of your comments on what to do or not to do based on your experience is so very helpful. You are very well spoken and fun to listen to. Giving inexpensive options for beginners is extremely helpful (and thanks to Jacquard). Thanks again!
Hello Kathy I really appreciate that, comments like that make the many hours of shooting and editing a video like this worth it. Definitely share your results also when you are able. Respect
I bought myself a kit last year and have been putting off using it. Nos that I've watched your tutorial, I am eager to try it. Thank you!
Hello Natasha thank you so much. Believe me you're not alone I haven't made one in a few months and it's like I got to be in the mood and the right frame of mind so I also have a kit just sitting there for a while. Definitely give it a try though and please get back with me and let me know how it works out ☺️
Good to see you Ray! Your cyanotype tutorial is one of my favorite episodes. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Hello Adam thank you, I was a little disorganized because every time I thought I was finished I realize I didn't shoot another important segment. then what I saw the video running long I ended up leaving out some of those segments anyway. Seat of the pants this one was lol
This is a fantastic, comprehensive video, well done Ray! I am only starting out, I ordered some paper on Amazon and watching a lot of videos before I start. Yours is definitely in the top 2 I've seen so far!
Thank You! The best tutorial I've seen so far. Greetings from Poland!
Such a great video. I've lost count how many times I've watched this, the delivery of the technique is very clear and just what was needed to get me started on this great craft. Thank you Ray!
Awesome thank you that means so much. I have to apologize it wasn't till long after I posted this I didn't show how I soak the fabric and ring it out. Plz share your results 😃
Hey Ray, just let me know where to send the files and I’ll share them with you. I also have a few other questions about tweaking the digital neg if you have the time, @@Raychristofer
@@londonfoto awesome thank you. You can send them to raychristofer@yahoo.com or you can create a Google drive folder to put them in
Awesome, just emailed. @@Raychristofer
I just saw this on Instagram, I never knew this even existed! So cool 🔥👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is an EXCELLENT video!!
Love the calm easy to understand voice, and the absence of ridiculous background
music !!
Yay!!
Wonderful, much appreciated !
This video is so well done. Thank you for the explanation. I would also say that noting the date, time, and "weather" might be good to keep note of as well. Exposing at 3 pm in July might be different than 3 pm in December! Thank you!
Thank you very much Ray!! This video was amazing and very well explained. I’m doing a finals project for my class and I collected a few flowers to try it on the wet craft paper and turned out well! Thanks again, very great video.
Hello thank you for that, you know that's something I never tried is wet sign or time. Please share with me a link of your final results I would like to try that also. I hear some people use diluted vinegar with soap bubbles and splash it on the paper as well while it is sunning for different abstract effects
beautiful video! thank you so much, youre so talented!
Very good tutorial,. thank you. I've just started making cyanotypes and gone through 2 sets of Jacquars's solutions already. I'm a book artist and plan to incorporate these with my eco prints. Thanks
Hello Mrs mary thanks so much, please share your work also
I just recently started making wet cyanotype. I know that’s not what your video is about, but I still learned so much useful information from watching this, that I will apply to my work. Thanks for the wonderful video!
Hello thanks so much. Can I ask a favor. Could you do a short video showing your process when you're able?
thank you! this video is so helpful, I wasn't aware that I should be rinsing inside away from the sun
Hello Anna thanks for taking the time to check it out and make comment. Yes for sure you're going to get clearer prints with more contrast let me know how it goes.
Thank you! I’m going to try this.
I was interested in infrared photography and you provided an excellent introduction. Now I'm thinking cyanotypes and I find this excellent video also by you. Well done.
Glad I found this. I was looking for how to make a cyanotype print and you broke it down perfectly. Thanks for sharing.
You're the man Big Bill. Thanks, now conquer the cyanotype world but don't show me up too bad lol
Raychristofer yes sir! Always exciting to learn something new and grateful to those who are willing to show us the way!
Thank you, excellent instructions! 👍🏼💕 from 🇬🇧
Fantastic video & tips!
this is the best video i have ever seen for cyanotype printing! thank you so much!
Just started practicing. Photos and contact material. Branching out to fabric now. Tried powdered Tumeric and Dried Cochineal. Not the best results…yet. Also tinted some with coffee. That works well.
You are a good teacher.
Great video tutorial.
The chemical process actually creates Prussian Blue.
Great tutorial Ray. I bought the chemicals late last year, and I've been looking for a good tutorial. Thank you so much. (From Ireland)
Awesome! I've never been to Ireland but I know you don't get a lot of sun. you may want to look into and UltraViolet panel light that you can put on top of a box with an opening cut into it and use it indoors. Cool
@@Raychristofer Very true! Thanks for the extra tip!
Hello Ray,
Thanks sooo much for this video! Your tips were so informative! You’re appreciated! 💕
Awesome! Thank you! 👏
You are the MAN! Thank for the great videos, cyanotype in camera !!!!

Simple and detailed tutorial. Learned all about cyanotype in just 10 min. Love it. Thx man :)
Healthy thank you so much, this was one of my most fun videos to shoot. Between you and me after I edited this I realized I forgot to show how to soak and ring out the fabric lol
Thank you for your fabulous explanation. I just discovered this method. I love your work.
Clear and detailed directions! Thank you so much! 😊🙏🏾
A very well explained tutorial!
Hello thank you, Glad it was helpful.
Thanks Ray, those pre soaked sheets look great to try out the process. I think that’s something my kids may even want to try their hand at.
Hello bro how are you? sorry i missed your comment yeah man definately try it, make sure you have a good idea and setup that you like before setting it out in the sun, Ive wasted some good sheets by not planning well. how old are the kids?
Raychristofer 14 and 12 and starting to show an interest in photography. Got the 14yo a canon 60d I think it was. Tried to get her into a photography course but she’s insisting on self teaching herself lol.
This was really helpful. Thank you! I can't wait to try.
awesome thanks, big respect
Never tried this, my artist friend has produced some beauties that she has recently exhibited... I'm so glad I watched your video... going to give it a try some time soon. Thanks for uploading.
Awesome Ruth, thanks for taking the time to watch.its addicting. I'll be sad if you don't share your results. Lol
@@Raychristofer well.... I have none of the chemicals yet but... when I have, then I will :)

Thank you from France ! Your explanations are great ! I'm definitly going to try :)
Thank you very much for this excellent tutorial! I'm so excited to try this. 💕😋 And the cloth you made is jaw dropping. I'm inspired.
Hahaa thank you, yes its very fun to do. you jusr reminded me I forgot to shoot a chapter on how I dipped the bandana and wrung it out preparing for the exposure but fortunately most folks dont catch that lol
Great introduction to the mechanics of cyanotype printing! You've earned a subscriber.
Hello Patrick thanks so much. Glad it was helpful.
Great video!
This is really cool, I wanna try this with some kids in our hall! This would be a blast
David lives!! How you doing bro? Miss you man. Yeah definitely try it. Those chemicals last long. Respect
Raychristofer haha yeah man, I’m doing good. Just had my second major job change within a year so been kinda busy 😅 Between that and zoom meetings lol... it’s been a lil hectic
Best teacher I never had 👏🙏🏽😍
These turned out great!
the way you present !! i love this
so glad you mentioned the importance of writing down your exposure technique in case you want to change something. i’m practicing film photography rn & i should start writing down the exposure & shutter speed i use for each shot. excited to c how this roll o film develops but i won’t remember what i did & why they came out how they did. now ik 4 the next one!! thank you ^o^
I just loved this video, wonderful delivery and so so so informative!!
Enjoyed your cyanotype tutorial but would love one focused on wet cyanotypes and tinting. Thanks so much!
Hello Susan thanks so much for taking the time to check it. when you do creative work like this it's best to talk about stuff you know and because I've never done wet cyanotypes I left that out. is an outstanding artist on Instagram that I follow her name is Ellen j Dooley, look her up she's an expert at different types of wet cyano.

Raychristofer Thank you👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Really enjoyed this video, nicely paced and full of great information
Thanks so much Allison, I actually shot 3 other segments that I left out of the edit because it was getting a bit long . thats one of the toughest things to learn when editing a video.
Great video❤
Very nice video and details on the materials used. THANKS for sharing!

Very exciting! Thank you for sharing your skills. I only recently learned that this existed and it's great to see this resource available!
Awesome Lisa, I love how many people benefit from this video. how did you find the video? and feel free to share your results
@@Raychristofer I searched for Cyanotype fashion, because I am interested in trying out clothing methods. I haven't attempted it yet but we will see!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. Been trying to print some drawings on cloth.
Thank you for this video! This is the best tutorial i have found, you are awesome!!
Hey thanks. Sometimes I pull my hair out trying to find a video tutorial that explains everything without being annoying so I try not to be that way. Glad it was helpful.

Hello thank you, let me know how it goes!
Very cool. I am going to try this with my students. Big fan of 'The Great Wave off of Kanagawa' piece at the end. Really inspiring! Thanks!
So interesting! Thank you very much for sharing all your great tips! Have a great day!🌞
hey Ray it is good seeing you again. I have some black & white photos I like to try.
Hello Michael yeah man do it. Just make sure it's a good sunny day and thatyou keep track of how long each exposure is and make sure the paper is pressed firmly up against the negative so it's as sharp as possible. After you look at your first print you'll know how to tweak the curves in the Editor to make it even better. Thanks for checking this out.
Thanks Ray, I live in LA, moist days its sunny, very. Hey I posted a slideshow of central Cali coast, y'day, if you have a chance give it a look. ua-cam.com/video/cEMQLVgZ6PM/v-deo.html
Are you a teacher?Your delivery is terrific.Thank you for the video!
Perfect video!! Thank you for the inspiration
Hello thank you for stopping by. Really glad it helped, took a lot of time to shoot and edit this but it's worth it
Great video! I'm excited to try out this technique, and I appreciate all of the tips you shared!
You an excellent teacher Thank you so much I will be trying this
I’ve never heard of this 😱I love this
Hi Ray, this may sound odd but I'm not interested in this BUT I found it interesting !! Once again a great easy to understand presentation !!
Hahaha thanks Mike, youre not alone many folks tell me its a bit too boring for them which is cool. glad I kept your interest bro
Thanks Ray. I’m gonna try this out for my art course :)
learning about cyanotypes and anthotypes, good tutorial!!
Hello thanks for taking the time to watch it. Anthotype is a new term for me. Definitely shoot a video tutorial of it if you've got the guts. I may Google it also
Oh haha, my comment was off. Good tutorial, my college art course is teaching us about anthotypes and Cyanotypes. I love that I can work with natural dyes for anthotypes but patience is a virtue when it comes to creating an image😀
@@jen7662 yes I know I just googled it and I saw that it has to be left outside for like days lol. Dang. Well if the finished product is beautiful then it's worth it. And by the way you can't sneak out of sharing your work it's written and stone now, no pressure
thanks you so much! your portraits came out so cool!!
Hello thanks glad it was useful
Great tip about keeping a time record! Thanks!
thank you, yes i learned the hard way
Great and informative
Thanks so much john
Have you tried wet plate yet?? Love that one you did with the camera. I’m always finding cameras to convert to wet plate collodion
@@johnmorgan8570 hello John, a subscriber actually gifted me a 4x5 the weeks ago for cyano but the images just don't form and I think it's because the lens is so far from the film plane that the light is much weaker. I want to use it for wet plate but not ready to make the jump yet. Maybe if I find a starter kit with everything ready to go. Thanks
Terrific video man, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
Loved the details. Thank you so much!!
Beautiful work and tutorial! Thank you
This video is everything I needed to know thank you!
thank you so much ! love from México
This is wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing your technique!
Hello and thanks for taking time to check this out I know the video was pretty long. I was until after I finish editing that I realized I didn't show exactly how I soak and ring out the fabric but it's just a matter of soaking it and ringing it out really well before drying. Let me know how it goes if you try
Loved your tutorials!
Thank you! Excited to try this!
Really wonderful tutorial! And your art is just beautiful 👍🏼❤️🤩
Hello thank you so much. I'm glad I found out about cyanotypes it opens up so many doors of creativity. Thanks for watching
