Today we are looking at a highly requested band Acid Bath who were only around for 6 years from 1991-1997 and featured vocalist Dax Riggs, Guitarist Sammy Duet and bassist Audie Pitre who tragically died in 1997. The band seemed to develop a huge underground following, but a full scale reunion seems unlikely. Best known for their debut record "When the Kite String Pops."

So, I grew up in Houma, I listened to these guys when I was in high school before their debut album came out. I knew Sammy's roommate, I've been to the house in Thibodaux that he talks about. Let me say this was a very well done overview of the band. You are correct in that by the second album there was a sense that Acid Bath was not far from breaking up. There were rumors and whispers back then that it was inevitable, before Audie died. Everyone had their own little side project going on. Sammy had Goatwhore, which was just a three piece at the time with Sammy doing vocals. Audie had Shrum, which was a doom/stoner kind of thing. And Dax had Daisyhead and the Mooncrickets, which was a more acoustic, dark hippie kind of vibe. Their creative differences were starting to splinter.
Also, one of their original guitar players, back when they were transitioning from Golgotha to Acid Bath, went on to play for another Louisiana band called Choke. And yet another band from Houma who I was friends with, used to open for Acid Bath all the time in the area. They were originally called Fuel but had to change their name to Fractured because of the other band Fuel. The drummer and bass player from Fractured would go on to play with Dax and Mike in Agents of Oblivion after the Acid Bath break up.
As for Rotten Records, they live up to their name. At the time there were only two bands signed to the label. DRI was one, and Acid Bath was the other. That was it, that was the label's entire roster. (EDIT: at the time when Acid Bath was first signed. Obviously, they added more bands later. They were a brand new record company at that time) I'm not sure about the relationship between DRI and Rotten Records or exactly how the label got started, but I was always under the impression that, at least at that time, that a member of DRI was business partners with someone from Rotten Records. I can't verify any of that, just going off what I had heard, but Spike Cassidy from DRI produced the first Acid Bath album and they went on tour together after that release. Acid Bath's tour bus consisted of a repainted school bus. They had boarded up the windows and had a window unit a/c hanging out the back. Completely ghetto, but they weren't exactly taking in huge amounts of money and support from the record company was shit. To this day Acid Bath sales are probably still their biggest cash cow.
Anyway, great job with the video. If anyone is interested on my channel I have a series of videos discussing the different metal genres, and I mention the New Orleans sludge metal scene in one of them, including Acid Bath.

I remember back in HS, when I was exploring metal beyond Nu-metal and what many Navajos considered as the standard metal (Sabbath, Judas Priest, Slayer, Metallica, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, etc.). I had a friend who loved Sludge, Stoner, Black, Death and Doom Metal, the genres that were a little more extreme. We had a CD player and small speakers that we would plug in and listen to during lunch. A friend popped in Paegan Terrorism Tactics and the opening song was just out of this world to my years. I don't think anything could prepare me for that style because of its heavy yet so much groove that you could not help but head bang to it. That alone started my love for the metal beyond the big 4 and foundational groups.

Agents fucking kicks ass. Never got to see them live sadly. I didn't get into Acid Bath until a few years after they were done either. I did see the original Deadboy lineup once and also Deadboy 2.0 (Lucas etc) multiple times but dipped out when the 3.0 (drummer + guitarist) era rolled around. Saw Dax live at Voodoo in '07 and I saw him 5 or 6 times acoustic in Lafayette, LA throughout 2003-2006ish too. All great shows.
Also if any former Deadboy.net folks are lurking around on here hit me up. I'd love to hear how you guys are doing.

I turned around and it was Sammy the guitarist with a shit eaten grin on his face... Talked to him for awhile, really cool dude! I can still remember a friend of a relative of one of the band members giving me a cassette of a demo before the 1st album came out and playing "Scream of the Butterfly" the 1st time lit up in mini-trailer miles deep in the Louisiana swamp/woods in the middle of the night. I weirdly ran into the redheaded girl I was up against on the 1st row of their concert in 1995, 10 years later and hooked up with them then and still know them today. Being the same age and coming from close to the same area as the band... my own personal music and life influences made Acid Bath seem like a personal expression that was waiting to come out, like I could've been another member of the band myself if I'd have run into them a couple years earlier. That haunting soundscape is something straight from the soul of a small group of people back then in the early 90's growing up in the deep swamps and woods of south Louisiana... an audible epiphany from the souls of a time and place that no longer exist since the internet and current mass-society. The last people from a middle-of nowhere, unique landscape, in the dying days before everyone and everywhere became the same...

I saw them play twice sometime in '96 in Baltimore and somewhere in Virginia. A buddy of mine grew up in the same town as one one of the guys in the band so he invited a group of us to see them play. My favorite memory was the night our car broke down in the middle of nowhere Virginia late at night after having seen Acid Bath play. As we were walking in a direction we hoped would lead us to a gas station, we finally saw headlights in the distance. The headlights belonged to bus painted black sporting a demon hood ornament. It was like the beginning of a horror movie! The doors open and Audie Pitre asked if we needed a ride as smoke billowed out of the bus. We looked at each other and said,"No thanks. We're good." "Suite yourself!" Doors closed. Metal blasting, the bus pulled away.

A girl I had such a crush on in highschool played Paegan Terrorism Tactics while we were on a road trip. Fell in love with the band right away. Many years later, I played the album the night my future husband and I got intimate for the first time.
