It’s rare to find someone who enjoys Nioh and dmc, kinda feels like both fanbases are fighting each other over what’s better when both Nioh 2 and DMC3/4/5 offer 10/10 combat. although there are certain things that are better in either of the series, like Nioh 2 undoubtedly has better and more engaging enemy design, whilst I feel that dmc has better bosses and obviously offers infinitely more creative expression.
Haven't played Wo Long to say either way, but Nioh's music being great? Truer words have never been spoken. Hardly any games' soundtracks manage to break into the rotation with my old faves these days. Or this decade. But Nioh 1 and 2 sure did. I just wish I could find a better source for their soundtracks. And especially a better version of that super calm flute (or something like a flute, I'm no music expert) and violin theme for that first cave in the first game and several other missions afterward across both games. For some reason it seems easier to find Nioh 2's music specifically, and I don't know why.

i mean, im expecting them to make no nioh 3, considering the japanese stories involve the "2 nioh's" and so nioh 1 and nioh 2 are about the 2 nioh's. So a nioh 3 could take place in the same universe, but I'd like if it wasnt nioh 3, considering that'd be a bit weird.
Oh great master is it possible to make a viable magic build with katana and magic and what attributes should I level? (I know I can google it but I want your opinion)
@@JohnSmith-se7pp 100%. My "main" build is a caster focused setup. Pretty much all offensive spells mixed with melee, and my in-game character logs shows it's quite close to 50/50 phys and magic damage it's kind of funny. If doing caster centric setup you go max magic (200, if you do high ng+ stat caps rise to 200), 150 courage. Courage strangely enough increases onmyo magic so upping that as a secondary is ideal, plus it helps greatly with ki recovery. there are a few endgame focused magic sets and they all work, i've tried them all lmao. Just wear what interests you in terms of flavoring that build, but it is 100% doable even through the most ridiculous difficulty of the post-post endgame of the depths which can make even seasoned players tap out or resort to co-oping to clear, I did solo with this build. Hope this helps :)
I think my favorite thing in Nioh2 compared to the more traditionnal souls likes is how aggressive you can be. In this game you don't have to dodge 15 attacks in a row to wait for an opening just to hit the ennemy one time, then repeat.
yeah. elden ring's dlc somehow doubled down on that aspect which kills it for me --and some of my heavy weapon using friends lmao. but nioh definitely handles properly. with enough skill and a fast weapon you can even swing inbetween the enemy swings if you so please, making for rather interesting dances with bosses.
Nioh 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. Nioh 2, Sekiro, Armored Core 6, Sifu, Hades, and Risk of Rain 2 are games that I will never be tired of.
Wow, the other games are really something I definitely consider way inferior to Nioh, armored core is meh, Sekiro is repetitive and inferior lacking creativity and options, just a rhytm game, Sifu is also another defensive Game parry based lacking of creativity and character designs, Hades is good but too long and kinda boring after a while, games similar for me to Nioh are DMC 3 and V, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Razor's Edge, Monster Hunter, Suikoden and other Team Ninja games. For example I enjoyed a lot Wo Long and loved replaying it but Sekiro was something I just played once, the new game plus was more of the same, I enjoyed the gauntlets and got the Tengu costume as proof but, meh I found that game both too long and too short, Ashina is big but there are boring parts, the snow, the begining of the timetravel level, the monkeys etc, NPC's lack of stories and interaction, the story is mediocre, compare it to Lies of P for example with amazing stories and NPC's, point is that Wo Long gives you lots of playthroughs different magics, weapons, arts, playing styles, builds etc, on Sifu and Sekiro this does not happen, while combat is too defensive and scripted, cutting your expression and dictating the rhytm, something you will never find in better games like DMC or Ninja Gaiden. In summary Nioh 2 is pure expression, freedom, overlapping mechanics and player choice while games like Sifu are more focused on just one mechanic that determines how the game can be played.
it's something i'm still working on perfecting. trying to not break my fingers going in and out of high stance during combos to keep my mid/low attacks from being repelled by guards lmao. it's definitely a long learning process 😅
For real. I'm only half as long in, and I'm still trying to improve on switching stances mid-combo to get the proper special combo ender for situations. God, I love this game.
@@terrymcdonald7877 rough. maybe one day you'll come back to it if you have the time. i was slow to pick up things personally but somehow got to a really good point with it. and if i can do it i really think anyone can lmao😅
Team Ninja has always been the kings of not just Hack-n-slash combat, but of all action combat period. Nioh 2, Ninja Gaiden, and Ninja Gaiden 2 are top 3 action combat in any game ever IMO. Even Final Fantasy: Stranger of Paradise combat ranks EXTREMELY high and underrated, which was also made by Team Ninja. Only reason people rate Stranger of Paradise low cuz the goofy story, goofy characters, and graphics do not look good at all for a modern game. But if a new Final Fantasy game had the same combat and job system of Stranger of Paradise, but just better story, characters, artstyle, and exploration, it would by far be the greatest Final Fantasy game of all time. I really hope Final Fantasy 17 combat takes huge inspiration from Stranger of Paradise.
I 1000000% agree, especially about SoP. That game is amazing. The characters do come off as goofy at first but honestly by the end I thought they were all amazing. Maybe I should make a video about that game too, lmao
Played Stranger of Paradise and genuinely thought “this is like Nioh 2, why am I playing this when I could be playing Nioh 2?” and deleted it and redownloaded Nioh 2.
I remember i bought nioh 2 on a whim because i wanted to play something while i waited for Stellar Blade to come out. By the time it did come out, pretty much the whole time i was playing it i was thinking about how much i'd rather be playing Nioh instead. That was like 6 months ago and Nioh 2 is still my main game.

Nioh 1 and 2 have the best combat system ever made for a 3rd person action-rpg. And the incredible thing is that they are not so similar as we might think.
@@thmistrapillay1811 nah i'd agree, the combat system is so amazing. The system is amazing, but the fact on a normal playthrough you never get to fully dive into it, sets it back a bit.
I never thought i'd spend more time on Nioh 2 than the original Fromsoftware Souls games. It's just the perfect mix of great combat, bite-size mission based progression, Diablo-like itemization and a way better NG+ cycles system and endgame. One of my favorite games of all time for sure.
same, 100%. I put alot of time in the souls games pve and pvp but Nioh 2 outpaced all of them easily lmao. It's crazy how good this game is and continues to hold up. thanks for watching :)

Went out over the weekend and picked up the remastered PS5 Nioh collection...Holy crap they are now officially the best 2 games I've ever played. The lighting and optimization is out of this world and they fixed not being able to walk up small ledges in the houses as well. Nioh 2 is the prettiest game I've ever played now. The Nioh discord hated me because I used the omnyo austerity set to have infinite familiars along with sloth on Onmyo hit on an accessory and 3 piece tsukuyomi for weakness on omnyo hit. Then I just button mashed with fists or spammed changing ways with the splitstaff while spamming ippon datara and gozuki to stunlock the bosses even in depth 30 of the underworld. The fact that you clear the depths without any of that cheese on penance 9 is impressive af
Thanks man, I appreciate that. And lmao, a lot of them were probably jealous they couldn't clear it even with cheese Don't let it bother you, clearing the depths period is an accomplishment no matter how you do it. And I'm definitely proud my fragile setup could make it!! Thank you for watching!

I true gem, a paragon of the action genre. The best thing about Nioh 2 is that it never forgets to be a GAME. It disregards mundane concepts of "cinematic presentation" or "super cool graphics". It just aimed always to be a GAME, with insane agency, and unparalleled depth in its mechanics. One of the best games out there.
I'm so happy there are people that truly understand how great Nioh as a series is. Not only as a Soulslike, but as an action game. It truly is up there with the Devil May Cry series. Nioh 2 was basically a masterpiece in terms of combat, and Souls never really got close, not even Elden Ring, good as those games are.
yeah, it's sad the series doesn't get the recognition it deserves. fromsoft games are great but not for the same reasons nioh and dmc are great. and it makes me a little disappointed action games have been trending towards souls/soulslikes and not the direction of those proper action games. 😔
I foresee myself spending thousands of hours playing this game and still have unexplored builds and combos that i can learn, no other game made me feel this way
Hi. Guy with 996.1 hours here: I have reached the skill ceiling on 2 weapons: Katana and Odachi, but I still have all the others to master. I have done a lv1 run from NG up to NG+4, but I still have to do underworld, and there's also stones of penance to go through. I mastered melee builds as a whole (Tank, glass cannon, Balanced, passive, aggressive, middle of the road, you name it.) but I still have to master magic gameplay and Yokai shift gameplay. This game truly doesn't end. Out of all my builds, only 1 has reached the peak of optimization as well.
@@nope6471 And my hypothesis is correct, I'm still a newbie trying to see what I like the most but based on what you said I'll still have near limitless content with this game even if reach the max ng+ and do all the missions
Having Platinum Nioh 2, I swear I had to force myself to stay WIDE awake while playing this game because I instantly die whenever I accidentally blink at the wrong moment.
The biggest perk Nioh 2 has is that it nails the philosophy of self improvement. once you understand the basic foundations of combat and get comfy with the weapons and tools you like, the game pretty much opens up a whole world of potential, it encourages you to experiment and explore yourself, to figure out your mindset and how you’d approach fights. And with how fluid the combat is, plus the fact you can reset your stat distribution to fit whatever weapon you like, it’s never a chore to experiment. The game allows you to express and understand improve yourself , which is why I loved DMC and Ninja Gaiden (though the latter is more about efficiency and awareness), and why I can’t say the same for with Fromsoft games like Elden Ring (bad fanbase experience aside, I couldn’t agree with its combat philosophy). The fact Nioh 2 basically allows you to tweak and refine your playstyle as you go along is amazing. After 1000 hours and 100% completion it’s still fun to experiment and learn the other weapons and yokai abilities. I still flip flop between dual swords, tonfas, fists, sword, split staff and switchglaive etc. if DMC is about understanding how Dante, Vergil and Nero etc work and taking to their full potential, Nioh 2 is about taking YOU to your full potential. It’s also the closest thing you can get to a weeb power fantasy
Couldn't have said it better myself. Really. And that's probably the big deciding factor for me when comparing DMC and Nioh games. Understanding characters and how they're supposed to be played vs making your own character, expressing yourself and changing and fine tuning them with little fuss from the games system that in other games they might try to limit. They're both amazing in their own right but the freedom Nioh gives you trumps all. also it being weeb power fantasy helps lmao. thank you for your insightful comment :)
definitely, it's a game that you can't expect to pick up and master over the course of a single play-through. Took me a while before it all began to click, it's only gotten better since!
You’ve sold me, I originally played Nioh 2 a few years ago and really only passed the first boss. I’m thinking about giving this another try, especially since I’ve fallen in love with more souls like games over the years
Nioh 2 is simply peak. I’d still put DMC5 up there as my favorite action game, but Nioh 2 is like directly underneath it. It’s just so damn good and offer so many builds/customization/mechanics to truly give player expression. When you pull off back-to-back ki pulses to just DEMOLISH a yokai’s ki gauge it just feels goddamn good. Then you start integrating the unique weapon mechanics, yokai skills and yokai shift abilities and the game is just👌👌👌
Dude, this video is great! Thanks for making. I mean, I watched because I'm already sold, but I really hope it brings new people in. Oh! The one thing you didn't mention that keeps bringing ME back, is no matter how good you get, or how tough your build is, if you ever stop paying attention for more than 1 second, you can *always* get taken down a Gaki! Hahah.
gakis, and the red kappas. the least threatening things always get when when you're not paying attention!! and thank you! some people in the comments seem to have gotten more interested in the game after watching which is absolutely amazing to me. If this channel becomes bigger I'm definitely revisiting the game to try and convert more people over 😁
One of my favorite games of all time. When the combat clicks there really is nothing like it. So many systems that work together flawlessly. The bottled magic with this game.
please bro we need the 60 Minute yap video , seriously I platinumed the game in it‘s first month (COVID really did help with that) and I can't get enough, just installed back onto my PS4 to finish my dream of the nioh run💪🏼
Y'know i was this close to starting my DMC5 glaze in the comments, but since you mentioned it in the video, i guess i don't need to. Another game that belongs in this discussion is God Hand. God Hand is a beat em up with the kind of mechanics you'd see in a fighting game. I'm talking stuff like counter hits changing attack properties or high attacks being duckable. It also lets you fully customize your moveset. I'd highly recommend it in case you haven't tried it.
absolutely, god hand is definitely a top contender for that title as well. it's a shame the company only managed to make the one game. like sure most of them went over to platinum games to make some bangers but still, imagine that company stayed afloat. thanks for watching, i think you're the first person to even bring up that game lmao
I just startred the nioh series. Long time souls player. One of my old gaming friends whitegoat or gray goat on yt always streamed them. They look too cool, challenging and fun. Great video!
Yeah, Nioh 2 is my personal favorite action game of all time. I'm a die-hard Team Ninja and DMC fan. I've got over a thousand hours of Dante play in DMC4 and love OG NG II on the 360 and Razor's Edge. But Nioh 2 is just that lovely sweet spot of a game with loads of technical depth, content and variety. It just never gets old.
I adore Nioh and Nioh 2 but honestly only for NG. I feel like once you hit NG+ and beyond it becomes a numbers game and devolves into builds that subvert the combat instead of engaging with it. Nothing feels better than actively going back and forth with the bosses.
i can respect that. i see where you're coming from. i will say that you can still do that in higher ngs, that's part of why it's so great actually. the mechanics let you crunch numbers to deal with content or you can ignore those optional mechanics if you don't care for them and just outskill the content. you can tailor yourself to have a more interactive experience with the gameplay loop or enforce your will on it. there's people that genuinely make it to the ultimate high end content naked level 1. it's only a numbers game if you let it be
Man, I pump almost 3000 hours into this game and I still enjoy it everytime I boost it up. I mainly play co-op depth, it's so much fun to just go in there and wreck stuffs up while also get to see what other players are rocking with.
Tonfa's also have Tona Gun on the Sarutobi Gunsticks so whenever you finish a light or heavy attack combo with the opposite type of attack you make an explosion pop out the tonfa's tips. And while ASTRONOMICALLY rare Tonfa Gun can be on ANY tonfa so long as it's a natural star stat.
My favorite game. Personally, even if it isn't good, I even like the story. Also, a lot of people say the level design is bland. I think the opposite. It's just right. Also, this game is so deep that, after 700 hours and beating everything including max stone depths, I think "I'd like to go back to Nioh 2 sometome and actually learn how to play it". But maybe the game isn't just about learning advanced breathing techniques and slaying demons. Maybe the real game is about all the Kodamas we befriended along the way.
That 700 hours line hit hard cause that was 100% true for me, in Nioh 1 though. Once you put aside the cheese and meta abuse and try to properly learn the game it becomes a whole new animal.
It's in that conversation for sure. Nioh 2 is as good as any game that Team Ninja ever made, and they made Ninja Gaiden. Truly a glorious achievement that takes elements from classic action and Souls and perfects the ARPG formula.
like many others, i was playing this during the pandemic and played it over 800 hrs. I made so many builds and loved the online co op, i completely that it is the greatest action game of all time
Nioh 1 and 2 are absolute gems. If o had advice for a new player, id say pick 1 weapon, pick one element and just build your character around that concept. Youll have a simple strategy and end up with a strong character with plenty of options that doesn't overwhelm.
solid advice, Nioh's definitely a lot of baby steps before you can really start walking and even running with the combat and all the systems there. so starting as small as possible and building your way up taking in what you can is the best approach for new players i feel. thanks for watching!!
I really love this game, I knew it when it released for free in Epic Games Store and then I immediately bought Nioh 2 after finishing Nioh The Complete Edition... very fun game and I'd rather play it than most popular action games, it just isn't as popular as other souls and action games but it is a great game overall with the Japanese culture and demons spookiness in it.
nioh 2 was a game i was expecting to enjoy. i enjoyed it more than i expected to tho. it's really just a lightning in a bottle type of game. a masterpiece
it really is lightning in a bottle. i don't know if they'll ever be able to repeat this kind of a greatness but i'd love to see it from them in a future title.

Hey, very nice video overall, you really show what the game is capable of, and it will hopefully make people more interested in the game. However, something that is not about the content is the background music in the video, which is a bit too loud sometimes. No offense, I just wanna let you know cause it will prob help you grow out more
hey absolutely no offense taken, I really appreciate your comment. Thank you for taking the time out to let me know, I'll keep that in mind going forward.

You seem like someone that really engages with the gameplay systems and , mechanics of action games. Would like to see more videos on other action games. Dmc5 is the best imo but Nioh 2 is right up there.
Hey I appreciate your comment, I definitely plan to tackle more content with action games for sure. Currently--because it got requested a lot--Ninja Gaiden is the next game related content I'll be putting out. Then potentially DMC5 because I really would like to get back into that. I 100% the game (and then some) before Vergil came out but then never returned ...I aim to change that! Stay tuned!
I just started playing Nioh and I suck at it but after playing through all the nes ninja gaidens and 3d ninja gaidens I am up for the challenge. So far I'm loving the aesthetic and gameplay loop. Seems like a rewarding game that I'll be able to sink many hours into
I agree with you. I made a poison ninja build that took me months to perfect. I made a playlist for anyone interested... Straight up best game ever. The developers with this game wanted a game to be perfect and finished and not worry about a micro transaction swamp.
I really should play it again, it's still installed all those years later, I know I'm a biasic "beach" for using the fists, but hey, even though it's easy it's still fun to hit that Ultra Combo move, especially with how much Super Armor it has, also I love the stance break hit, impaling someone on your fist than sending them flying will never not be fun. Also hitting them with the Primary Lotus is always fun
you should! and don't worry about being "basic" with fists--fists are actually a one of the most complex weapons. they just so happen to be easy to pick up and get started with. it also happens to be in my top 3 weps of nioh. can't ever go wrong with fists😁
SOP is such a wonderful game. It starts off pretty corny but man does it do a 180 into pure amazing. The combat is really --probably expectedly great as well. hope you enjoy!
I think a lot of starting players are put off by the initial difficulty but once you start "beginning to believe" it is incomparable to other games in its genre. There are so many details in this game that are so underappreciated, mainly, the ungodly amounts of weapon attacks, that vary from weapon to weapon. To anyone that is new, DO THE SIDE MISSIONS, or you'll end up like me, 25 levels under the recommended one. It really makes a difference. Sure some enemies might still 2 hit you but at least you won't die to most bs attacks.
In a Nioh video binge atm, I dont own the game but im a huge hack and slash fan, but more Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising. I wanted to see the hype for Nioh to see if I should pick it up as I know this is a bit of a souls like and has a targeting system unlike those 3. So this was the perfect video for me. there are a few endgame focused magic sets and they all work, i've tried them all lmao. Just wear what interests you in terms of flavoring that build, but it is 100% doable even through the most ridiculous difficulty of the post-post endgame of the depths which can make even seasoned players tap out or resort to co-oping to clear, I did solo with this build. Hope this helps :)
@@shape444 thanks boss it did help

500+ hours on this game and I'm still learning. Switching stances during combos took me forever.
it's something i'm still working on perfecting. trying to not break my fingers going in and out of high stance during combos to keep my mid/low attacks from being repelled by guards lmao. it's definitely a long learning process 😅
For real. I'm only half as long in, and I'm still trying to improve on switching stances mid-combo to get the proper special combo ender for situations.

Nioh 1 and 2 have the best combat system ever made for a 3rd person action-rpg. And the incredible thing is that they are not so similar as we might think.
HEAVY disagree but they are still good
@@thmistrapillay1811 nah i'd agree, the combat system is so amazing.
I don't care how many more videos like these are made or how many more people over the years come out saying they love Nioh, I swear it still feels criminally underrated lol
lmao yeah... i agree. It's tragic a game like this with all its depth and complexity just gets so little appreciation. I'll do my part and keep yapping about it hopefully it'll encourage more people to try it out

Then I just button mashed with fists or spammed changing ways with the splitstaff while spamming ippon datara and gozuki to stunlock the bosses even in depth 30 of the underworld. The fact that you clear the depths without any of that cheese on penance 9 is impressive af

100%!! Could not have said it better myself.
watching someone really good at Nioh 2 play is like watching a painter or musician, it is that good of a combat system.
100% agree, i wanna see more nioh players showing their stuff cause this game allows for some amazing displays of player expression.
No matter how many hours ive put on to the game it never gets boring
I foresee myself spending thousands of hours playing this game and still have unexplored builds and combos that i can learn, no other game made me feel this way
Yup, agreed 100%. It's that complexity and variety that makes it the greatest for me. Thanks for watching!
Nioh 2 so slept on . . Also the fact you can transmog your armor . .
I’m glad that I tried Nioh 1 and 2.
Coming from playing all Souls games I thought let’s give this a try and Damn I just found a gem of a game!
I remember playing this when it came out and getting overwhelmed by all of the combos and systems in the game. I gotta pick it back up some day.
definitely, it's a game that you can't expect to pick up and master over the course of a single play-through. Took me a while before it all began to click, it's only gotten better since!
You’ve sold me, I originally played Nioh 2 a few years ago and really only passed the first boss. I’m thinking about giving this another try, especially since I’ve fallen in love with more souls like games over the years
definitely do! If you need any help i'll be happy to give any tips or insight :)
Bro just covered two of my favorite games in back to back videos subbed.❤
we both have great taste what more can be said. thanks
Then you start integrating the unique weapon mechanics, yokai skills and yokai shift abilities and the game is just👌👌👌
Justice for Nioh 2 👊
Dude, this video is great! Thanks for making. I mean, I watched because I'm already sold, but I really hope it brings new people in. Oh! The one thing you didn't mention that keeps bringing ME back, is no matter how good you get, or how tough your build is, if you ever stop paying attention for more than 1 second, you can *always* get taken down a Gaki! Hahah.
gakis, and the red kappas. the least threatening things always get when when you're not paying attention!!
and thank you! some people in the comments seem to have gotten more interested in the game after watching which is absolutely amazing to me. If this channel becomes bigger I'm definitely revisiting the game to try and convert more people over 😁

the final form of nioh players is turning off the damage numbers to see the glorious combos better
I do that in all games right in the beginning. I want to see all the moves.
That's how I started this game I've never seen my damage numbers
Damage numbers and motion blur are the two things I will always remove before I play a game
I'm so mad I literally just stumbled across this game a few months ago. And I'm totally hooked! How did I miss this 4 yrs ago I don't know.

One of my favorite games of all time. When the combat clicks there really is nothing like it. So many systems that work together flawlessly. The bottled magic with this game.
I have around 340 hrs with this game. Been wanting to go back to it for a long time now but my backlog grows more every year
At 1600 hours. Finally beat the depths of the underworld this week. A most satisfying experience. The best AI combat of any game I ever played.

Every time I come back to nioh out always feels amazing
@@shape444 Exactly.

It's in that conversation for sure. Nioh 2 is as good as any game that Team Ninja ever made, and they made Ninja Gaiden. Truly a glorious achievement that takes elements from classic action and Souls and perfects the ARPG formula.

@shape664 yeah and then halfway through your game you can galaxy brain and start using the whole kitchen sink 😅

Hey I appreciate your comment, I definitely plan to tackle more content with action games for sure. Currently--because it got requested a lot--Ninja Gaiden is the next game related content I'll be putting out. Then potentially DMC5 because I really would like to get back into that. I love this game so much! Splitstaff gang ❤
Nioh 2 is so peak
I have a love hate relationship with this game mainly cause I refuse to get good. Your video has convinced me to do another full run, thanks chief
I’ve beaten it twice on PC & PS. Playing Wo Long currently then SOP. Will 100% do another run of Nioh 2 before 2025.
SOP is such a wonderful game. It starts off pretty corny but man does it do a 180 into pure amazing. The combat is really --probably expectedly great as well. hope you enjoy!
I agree with your video title.
I just picked up the game again. Low encumbrance magic axe wielder on this run.
Anyone else in the comments a hack and slash fan that plays Nioh?
@@VikingGoblin hack and slash? I can see why it looks like a hack and slash from the gameplay - but it’s more like if Tekken, Path of Exile and a ‘hack and slash’ had a threesome at a Soulslike Diddy party, this would be their love child.
You should get this game 100%. He wasn’t lying, it is the best combat system of any game ever made.
There’s a reason why Nioh 2 player count spiked 2 weeks after Wu Kong was released - it’s because people finished Wu Kong and it reminded them of how there’s nothing quite like Nioh 2.
Get this game, play for it a bit and I promise you that you’ll be on your break at work thinking about builds and combos 😂
