Listening to this point of view is interesting. But it’s like, I’m living in America. It’s the safest place in a war. Has been through two world wars and was left completely untouched outside of Pearl Harbor, and some territories it had near Japan. So where is the threat here? Just curious.

Nukes, intercontinental ballistic weapons , and the people around you who would rip you apart once things go sour.

@@potatochip6499The US nuclear triad is a strong deterrent against anyone with the capability to attack the US mainland. We're very secure from conventional attacks due to our geography, size, and population. And in the worst case that there was a large-scale exchange of nuclear weapons, no where on the planet would be safe from the fallout.
I'd say the biggest reasons to live outside the US are legal and financial ones, not physical safety. Sure, we have internal divisions - but that's inevitable for such a large and diverse nation. In practice, if we were personally threatened by an outside force, Americans would rally around the flag as we've seen before throughout history.
Furthermore, I think many people underestimate and take for granted what it means to have citizenship of a nation. Without citizenship, you have limited to no legal protections, no access to social benefits, you are at risk for deportation, and you can't participate in the government (if it's a democracy). Citizenship means security, stability, and for some countries even assurances that you will be advocated for and protected no matter where in the world you may live.

Thanks so much for your comments!
What you laid out there at the end is the exact reason that I work with and encourage my clients to acquire second citizenships and passports, as you absolutely correct on this.

@@potatochip6499 the us is the least likely place for this to happen. We are totally independent of energy and food than other countries. A nuclear war is extremely unlikely.

dude, there aren't border tensions in Latin America because you don't have welfare states like you do here in the US and in the EU ... DUH. If the US would stop cow towing with welfare and benefits, we wouldn't have anywhere near the border tensions we have now.
