Friggin heck. I remember seeing the Carisma R5T with 350hp back in the day and thinking "HOW?!!" and that was (I think) 150hp of laughing gas, too.
I would contest the opinion that they're not reliable. To a point... That C1J engine is very much underrated. I had one for a few years in the late 90s, spent a fortune on it at GT Tuning down in Dorset. It would comfortably sit at around 260 bhp on mid 20s psi boost on Shell V-Power with no issues. Although towards the 300 bhp mark it needed octane booster and got through a few head gaskets. The one in this video is a credit to its creator.

These were a Torque Steering Mess, Head Gasket blowing mess at 200bhp nevermind mind 550bhp😮😅

I'm going off the fact these were generally tuned, back in the Day, with A Bleed off Valve and no understanding of Carb Tuning and AFR's. My Cousin went through at least 3 Headgaskets in Quick Succession. It is still the Scariest Car I've been in as it always wanted to head into a Ditch 🤪🤣
It's a decent set of cams on a 14xe, mine did. 15/ 12 hp for an add on not mapped is huge gains.

Love em I've had 2 one was shit and ine had BBR stage 2 conversion 250 bhp was reliable and pretty bloody quick bsck in the day , i px'd it for s2 escort rs turbo with 2 litre conversion wasnt as quick and wished I'd kept it , the seats used to bend under acceleration, was brilliant
