To be fair, Lootas are still a pretty good choice for some stationary firepower. The Strength of the weapon has increased, no longer are you needing to roll for how much firepower you’ll kick out, and the full re-rolls whenever someone is sat on an objective.
I think it's funny that even though they're carrying around big vehicle-mounted weapon systems they still have a Move of 6. So yeah, counting them as 'Heavy' weapons is fine. 😉
SAG mek gets the same reroll all hits against objective enemies if he’s with lootas and SAG mek loota squads probably have some of the scariest overwatch available to the faction
Ive been running ten of them in my crusade force. I try to perch them on a tall building with full view of the midfield so they get the plunging fire bonus. With 24 attacks and rerolls if they fire at an objective, they become a viable option for overwatch as well. Excellent for taking out space marines and light transport vehicles.
I loved the old rules for lootas haha yeah d3 was so fun. You're right it was strength 7. I still love them just pointing at someones transport or like elite space Marines and just dumping dice at them.
Great unit, I ran two units of 15 in my first 2k game of tenth yesterday. Had to proxy in some tank bustas as lootas, orks with big guns, it was fine! I agree that slotting in characters isn't a good idea, when my lootas where targeted with oath of moment (when it mattered) I'd called in the whaaagh and got the 5+ invun anyway, and the painboy is 80pts, which isn't much less than another squad of lootas. Fired a devastating round of overwatch from a mob with 12 or 13 left at a unit of terminators that deepstruck into the backfield to threaten them. Killed 2 of them on the way in and they failed the 9 inch charge. I'm not sure close combat is the best way of dealing with them. He roasted 7 stormboys with overwatch too. I forgot you can do it anytime, not just when you get charged. They are great shooting units and feel about right, not too powerful but very reliable sort of auto cannon equivalents. If a decent BS faction targets them they will die but with target saturation they'll put in work. Anti-tank was a problem, very hard to kill with what I'd brought. Need some mek guns on the table. But it wasn't a serious game. We were throwing a lot of random units on the table and probably mucked up a few rules.
I take 3 of 5 and rush them up to slow down and pin down as many units as possible. Then call the waaagh next turn as the rest of my army has moved up. and Storm boys still left fall back out of the way and grab objectives
All my lootas are boyz with heavy weapons glued on..(save $$$, and my Orks are inclusive even a one armed Ork can serve) Also take a Painboy for a unit of 15, gotta look after his patients 😊

My current Blitz Brigade list has 1x open topped Wagon ( Kannon, 4x big Shootaz, lobba, Deff Rolla + klaw and Ball) … filled with 15 x squad of Lootaz (3x Rocket spannaz) lead by a SAG Mek…. OR perhaps 10x Lootaz (2x Rockets) A SAG mek…with the Wagon having the KillKannon upgrade and a Mek ( to heal wagon and improve the shooting of the KillKannon , lobba 4x big Shootaz) which is 10 points cheaper… I gotta roll some dice and see which is better….
Isnt the "deranged snotling attack" helpfull, because the enemy unit will be battle shocked together with the -ap from the deffgun and no rerolls from stratagems makes them easier to kill?

I 100% agree with you on that mate. But..... this unit doesn't suffer too badly as with rokkits or kmb they can their own considerable fire power to the deffguns. And the big shoota can nearly match the range. I think it hurts the burnas a lot more. In that squad you'd rather have a kmp and killsaw loadout for the mek.
what do you think having a couple unit of lootas in a battlewagon buffed by a mek? with the new firing deck rule you should be able to move into position and still shoot at bs 5+ with your deffgun.. no rerolls though.. idk it sounds cool to me 😅💪
I think the protection of a vehicle would really add to the survivability. But I would opt for a nice tall piece of scenery overlooking the battlefield. Be nice to unleash on any target in first turn.
if I used them I would move move in up mid bored and hold them so they can blast any one. plus g.w fix the gretchin t.2 to all attack big shoota's are 36 range truk cant take ghaz any more mega armour rules fix also

Well they are Orks ans Orks is well 'ard so they probably could lug them around without too much fuss.

Ladz, I just had a game against DA, 5 lootas +Big Mek w SAG did 9 kills on one turn, def worth it

Still not a fan of having to take spanners. I find it a pain that unit composition is dictated solely by box sets contents.
