I actually feel bad for him. Imagine being a fan of star wars, get a deal to be a main character, just for your character being... Whatever the heck Finn was.
@@stuffedcinema7374 thing is, Finn was actually meant to be force sensitive, and is even shown to be to a degree in TROS. Unfortunately, this wasn't established sooner and was never mentioned because reasons.
Indeed. IMO, Finn's character premise was extremely interesting but they completely destroyed his potential and gave all the spotlight to a good little Mary Sue instead. Such a shame. Rey is like the least interesting character. Finn or Kylo Ren would have been better protagonists because there's some actual struggles and character growth + potential to offer a different point of view to the Star Wars universe.
@@anxivty exactly. Finn had a very clearly set path in TFA, and was arguably meant to end up with Poe. Then Rian Johnson stepped in and made a variety of loosely connected skits, put them together, and released it as a Star Wars film. At least Taika Waititi's making a SW film now - he won't intentionally seek to make the film controversial and somehow anger the entire fanbase, like what happened with TLJ.
The cast was never the problem, Ridley, Boyega and Isaac were all charismatic, charming and memorable in their roles. But the fact that three different dudes were writing those characters in three movies and all three of them had adaptions for Star Wars that were far too different to work as a whole
Fr it sucks the cast was great Rey Finn even Poe were good rose though I'm sorry but I can't stand her character at all also Kylo I didn't like at first I thought he had a weird voice and it was cringe as fuck that he wanted to be like Darth Vader I just thought that was weird but he grew on me and their is no doubt he is a good actor but he mainly plays anger dudes
Imo, since you were placed on the High Council *and* you trained a padawan, you should have been promoted to Master. You got jipped, man. I hope to see you in Episode IX!
Who would win? A jedi concieved by the force itself, veteran and general of an entire war, one of the greatest duelists of his time and The Chosen One destined to destroy both the jedi and the sith and bring balance to the force or One orphan with an egg-shaped head
@@MrDragonkarp Its not a puzzle. JJ probably intended to do something with Finn's character that involved the use of a lightsaber, but the entire trilogy turned into a clusterfuck after TLJ. Without Rian Johnson I feel like this trilogy could've turned out better, Force Awakens had potential.
@@hyperion3145I’m guessing that the line was uttered since it was the first on-screen time where First Order troopers were seen fucking around in jetpacks - and these characters that utter the line weren’t even born when the clone wars was a thing (C3P0 being the sole exception) But then again, Finn shouldn’t even be surprised since he was once part of the Order, and I’m certain a lot of in-between media like books and novels have shown the soldiers using jetpacks already
@ryon5174 that's how I took it as well, that it was the first time since the Empire that flying troopers were seen (which is odd in and of itself), but they could have worded it differently. Someone on a different video suggested something similar to the following: 3P0: "They fly now!!!" Finn: "Damn it, jet troopers!" Poe: "Great..."
I mean, yeah, but unless Poe and Finn received a competent education, they wouldn’t have been alive during the Clone Wars and wouldn’t know about what gear Clone Troopers had
@@aguywithalotofopinions412 I could excuse Poe, but Finn def should have some knowledge of their own gear because there’s no way the jet troopers just popped out of existence
Yeah he leaves the first order and blasts stormtroopers excitedly with the resistance "Woo DID YOU SEE THAT?" It would have been cool to see him think of the stormtroopers as good people that are just fighting for the wrong cause instead of just killing them without a second thought
you know a Stormtrooper rebellion would have made more sense if you worked it into the finalie of Episode IX. instead of launching a ground invasion on a Star Destroyer because you wanted to blow it up (which is really stupid) they launched the invasion to try to capture the primary command ship. they would take over the bridge and then Finn would use the final order's radios to contact all of the Sith troopers. Finn would then give a speech that would go something like "my name is Finn... although I was once known as FN-2187. I was once a trooper like you... I was raised to only kill and serve a corrupt military. I deserted because I saw what I was, what everyone around me was... and I knew I wouldn't kill for them. you all still have a choice! don't let yourselves be ordered by those around you, look for a greater purpose! there is a galaxy out there of people who you only work towards destroying... join us if you seek the greater good" and his speech would be followed with hesitation from a lot of troopers before some troopers would turn on their armies which would give a satisfying conclusion to Finn's character arc
@@liamdalemon1525 I think the beginning of the stormtrooper rebellion should have started in Ep8. After Finn defeats Phasma he talks to the stormtrooper army on board and gets them to see the light and they all go back to the bunker on the planet and THEY become the backup that the resistance desperately needed. Instead we got that flight of old ships and Finn trying to sacrifice himself to stop the cannon from blasting the door and Jar Jar 2.0 stopping him because she doesn't believe in noble sacrifice? Girl you just killed everyone in the bunker save Finn. You lucky that some spirit Hobo that look like Luke showed up to save your asses.
Or him slowly learning to overcome his xenophobic, propaganda riddled militaristic upbringing. Maybe see him being an elite soldier for the resistance, see him spare many first order troopers because he understands they are actually good people. Maybe him getting his revenge on the first order leaders and perhaps him leading a rebellion. Instead we got basically nothing.

I don't see the legendary arc. It's just Fin had nowhere to go so hestuck with the guys that accept him.
Finn should have been The Jedi. Rey should have been the Pilot. Poe the Future Leader. Kylo should be obsessed with "saving the galaxy" not becoming a new Vader and his Knights of Ren should be his real friends who followed him out of genuine love and faith. Han should have stayed with Leia. It's literally his arc. Luke shouldn't have lost all his students and have at least a couple of them tending to him and what remains of the temple. Nothing wrong with Leia being a princess and she should wear the title proudly out of love for her stepfamily and her heroic birth mother. The New Republic should start in a position of strength. They're the ruling order now. The hammer against the First Order should be the new republic's armed forces with access to all the empire's resources. The Imperial Remnant/First Order should be the ones adopting rebel tactics to survive and make up for their weakness and to gradually inch their way into a more favorable position. Its leaders should be guerillas like Guevara or terrorists like Bin Laden, while the Republic is the one with the generals and the admirals.
I wouldn't actually mind seeing them fall from power and gradually take it back. Instead of running away from the New order for the majority of the movies. Something like a *Infinity War* cliff hanger, then they work their way around the said problem.
Not only that but it was out of Luke’s character to not show up To help his friends in 7. Even mark hamil said so and said to the writers that’s what should happen but they didn’t care.
Finn 100% should have been the protagonist and a Jedi. He actually had an interesting story and character arc. But we’re not allowed to have nice things
@@Hivedragon while I didn't really enjoy Rebels season 1, Ezra showed great skills in the later seasons. You know why? *cuz he was actually getting good training from a good Jedi Master*

Finn should have been the main character, dude. Imagine a former storm trooper taking on a Sith Apprentice under the training of Luke, while Luke takes on the Sith Lord. John was honestly robbed here.
@Spectre N7 I wasn't even thinking of that. Would be really cool. I was honestly thinking that there has to be another "Sith situation" for there to be a new trilogy.
@ChandSlam Only thing is Kyle Katarn is so good at his job he'd finish a mission in like 15 minutes, and you can't stretch that to 2 hours. Unless you bullet-timed every one of the hundreds of stormtroopers he'd mow down
You, like OP, are awful at reading body language. John is clamping his hands while bobbing his head as in to say "aight aight cool cool". You yourself are passing judgement on the film and are reaching for any superficial thing to reinforce your pre-conceived notions without even seeing the film. Pathetic.
Boyega and Isaac's were relieved it's over, yet still slightly annoyed..DR, even more of that emotion showing.. similar to the GoT cast's reaction to the tragic failure of season 8.
The guys seem to be all right, but the actresses... It's almost as if there was some kind of negative selection at work there. Not one of them looks like a person I'd have a coffee with.

Finn was the best written character in episode 7. Had me so damn excited about ep 8 and 9 and Disney basically completely pushed the character out of the major role he should have played. In 8 & 9 he became the friend of a new character that was focused on
was he? The trailer was amazing. When the storm trooper got out of line, it was very exciting to see where they go. And of course, John is charismatic, but thats about it. I feel like, the role started out as the comic relief and then was essentially the token black guy, who is friendzoned by the main character, who is also white, btw
well...you know their objectivity terrible when even the actors themselves can't even defend them. They can't even bullshit us like Disney can and I respect the actors greatly for being real about it.
@Imaru Lewis she really isnt that likeable when she calls millions of people insane because of who they voted for in an election. Or how she says she doesnt have privilege when she is rich and famous.
@Imaru Lewis ehhh.. I'd argue that she never really started out interesting. Tbh I only kinda found her interesting when Ryan Johnson said she came from just some nobody's. A fresh character who didn't have ties to the skywalker lineage... but no... she's palpatine's granddaughter..
John Boyega was incredible for what he was given, and I wish his character was more fleshed out because his story would’ve been so interesting. Also, it was clear that John Boyega has such a passion and love for Star Wars and then he was kinda thrown to the side. John Boyega will always be my favorite actor in that movie, not because I hate the others, but because he showed so much emotion despite that weird “REEEEEEEEEEEY” moment in every movie.
In all honestly I think he should have been the Jedi/Protagonist not Rey. Way more interesting character character in my opinion it's sad that they only use him as easy comedy.
the force flowing through him would of explained how he broke conditioning and despite being brainwashed by the First Order his first experience of battle shakes him because the force allows users to experience the emotions of others, and the pain and anguish of his comrades would lead him to desert. though they kinda ruin the "wow, the stormtroopers are actually regular guys too that can be good guys also, like Finn" when he readily fights his former ally Tr-8r and mows down other Stormtroopers with a lightsaber. and blows them up in a TIE fighter near the beginning of the film.
Crazy to think how people like you and just fans in general come up with these cool ideas and yet you give the reigns to these professional writers who just seem to miss the mark 💀
Poor John, he was, as he said in interviews, beyond excited and happy to be cast in Star Wars and then this happened to him :( He deserved better. Then again, so did we, and pretty much all the other actors and their characters lol
John: Thanks for casting me. So what's Finn's plot and what role does he play? Disney: Plot? Role? The only role you will be playing is "diversity" and "yelling 'REY' every now and then" John: What? But I think I am really talented and could be a nice guy the fans will like Disney: Fans?
@ If he's an "ungrateful fuck" just like you said, then, you're a racist. Even Lando Calrission (Billy Dee Williams) and Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson) got treated right and have amazing, well-written and functional character that have a purpose in the story. Finn (John Boyega) on the other hand, is only there as a token. All he did is trying to save Rey and shouts her name every now and then. We all thought he was gonna be the next Jedi but Disney decided to say "sike!"
Imagine Finn being the main character. such a wasted opportunity, imagine a force sensitive former stormtrooper being trained by Luke to take on the first order and the sith
Would have been awesome if after kylo killed han finn decides take him on like in the movie but instead of Rey being g there Luke shows up to protect and then train a non force sensitive character that would be way better and more interesting
The fact that Disney played EVERYONE into believing that Finn was a Jedi and then lied to us back in 2015 should have been the biggest red flag about their intentions. They did Boyega dirty. I was so intrigued and excited to see how he would be a major, frontman player, in the Skywalker saga. Instead, they played him, they played us, and ultimately, the Palpatine's won.
They should've just told John: "Do whatever you think would be cool or funny here." The guy has so much personality, it's amazing how different he is from the character he's portraying.
You can literally watch the first half or so of TFA, and see so much more personality coming from Boyega than we see almost anywhere else in the trilogy. Hell, his "TRAITOR!" fight was better than both "fighting Captain Phasma" AND "Rey dueling Kylo" combined. In TFA, Finn was an actual character, with actions driven by both reasoning and emotions that organically pushed the plot forward. In TLJ and ROS, Finn is Flanderized so much as "Rey's companion" that he's practically written into the background.
It's a stretch to call hamill a fan. Sure he respects the character he played and the role the originals had in cinema, but he knows nada about any lore, or even much about his character.
@@arson3921 Actually, Hamill himself rewrote a lot of his scenes in the OT and was very clearly angered at how Disney treated Luke, suggesting what he did in the past in both the movies and comics was nothing like what he did in the sequels. He seems to be a fan, even if not as big as Boyega.
@@tragedyplustime8271 While I understand where you're coming from, he did not write any scenes. Him, Ford and Fisher would ad-lib or change lines to make it sound more natural, but the scene was already written. And I did say he respected the character, but he doesn't know much of him. Such as Luke in Legends being a grey forcer and can be seen using dark force powers in RotJ, yet Hamill thinks Luke is a pure being of good that is comparable to Superman and Spiderman. So no, not a fan of Star Wars perse, but an admirerer of the characters impact and legacy.
All of the marketing almost seemed to make it out like Finn would be the hero of the new trilogy. He was rocking the lightsaber and everything. He has a more compelling story as a reformed Stormtrooper than Rey "I'm a nobody with a ton of gifts" does. When he pulled out the lightsaber to fight against Kylo Ren, I got genuine goosebumps because it was an epic character moment. When Rey did it, something about it felt very much like....it was almost a formality. Like "Oh, I guess we're doing this now"...which was a shame. Him being completely screwed in The Last Jed was terrible.
When he use the saber for the first time against the riot controll trooper and lost that realy should have happen and then he would have got stronger.but rey my freind uses a lightsaber for the first time every and kicks a trained sith ass
I’ve believed this for years, Finn should have been the Jedi. His character is so much more likable, it makes a whole lot more sense for him to be one, he’s even put into all of the marketing for the force awakens as him holding a lightsaber. Why on earth they made Rey the Jedi is beyond me
Master Rey, what are we... Wait a minute, who the fuck even are you? Some homeless girl? *Turns back to fellow younglings* ; Looks like meats back on the menu boys!!
Imagine this for the trilogy: Finn was a force sensitive storm trooper who rebels and becomes Luke's apprentice. Rey is a tech savvy scrappy tomboy who always wanted more than living on a junk world. Han becomes her mentor and teaches her how to fly and be better with tech. Poe of course works for Leia and is her best pilot. Had they made the sequel trilogy like that, it would've been perfect. You have the original cast passing the torch onto the new generation. Finn would've become a Jedi with a compelling backstory you could root for. Rey could've become a tech savvy wise cracking pilot who acts as the heart of the team and keeps them together. And of course Poe becoming a leader through his skills as a pilot. But instead we get an unrelatable overpowered Mary Sue with a resting bitch face, a black guy who's the stereotypical comic relief and Poe is constantly berated despite his efforts. What the fuck even is this trilogy?
@@IcebreakerMarti Very good ideas. It's called story arc. In the Star Wars prequels if the focus was on Count Dooku thinking he could corrupt Obi Wan it would had been more compelling and when that failed if Dooku gets to Anakin and points out the Jedi's flaws or perceived flaws, but instead they kill off powerful sith to early or don't use them to full effect. I didn't see any point in us having to see Darth Vader as a child and frankly I would had thought someone like Vader would had been born on Coruscant and nearly groomed at first in the military and had many mentors. I never use to think of Vader as a slave that was also a super genius. It was clunky back story, I thought.
Tenno Shenaniganizer "Finn was a Force-sensitive Stormtrooper who rebels and becomes Luke's apprentice" So basically Kyle Katarn? I wouldn't mind that.

Remember when we will all hoped he would be side by side with Rey holding lightsabers? Yea, that was only a dream y’all. They made him hold a lightsaber on the poster, and even tried hard “foreshadowing” him to becoming a Jedi. Only to take that erase that opportunity for him, smh.
I was hoping that Finn will inherit Anakin's lightsaber and Rey will make her double bladed saber... And he and Kylo will have a sort of rivalry to whom that lightsaber should belong to...
Agreed - why one of the reasons I hated TFA so much when I first saw it; I felt so misled. On all the film and character posters, he's the *Only* one to hold and use Anakin's lightsaber, like in the trailers, *and* he's the first character you see in the first trailer - very easy to infer he's going to be the main man, and a Force-Sensitive one at that. TFA comes out and it's all just Rey, Rey Rey all the time - as he ends up shouting throughout the whole trilogy
@Sonny the Duck I was more on Rey vs Snoke (the real supposed to be true bad guy not that clone BS to put Palpatine there)... While Finn and Kylo focus on their own rivalry...
I just feel bad about how John and his character were treated by Disney. He’s a great actor, but now he’s just going to be known as that guy that screamed “REY” for three straight films.
I feel bad for John, Daisy, Oscar, etc. actors who’d been in the sequel trilogy. I’ll agree with most people when I say the sequels are pretty damn weak. But I’m not gonna blame the actors, nor should anyone. They worked with what they had. Were a lot of the characters written poorly and given a pretty trash story to work with? Yes. But I really hope they can still continue to be successful outside the realm of Disney Star Wars
It's a lot like how people got on Hayden Christensen's case for his portrayal of Anakin. I personally think there was nothing wrong with it, but a lot of people hated the character, and thus blame Hayden for it. Honestly, I think he did great, but that's irrelevant. Really, it's just the continuation of a cycle.
I don’t understand the way people talk about these actors and these characters like we’ll never see them again. This is Star Wars we’re talking about. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega are going to be apart of Star Wars for decades. Hell they got Harrison Ford back like 3 times and he HATED it. People have been bugging Ewan Mcgregor about SW for 20 years now. Ian McDermott still shows up to cons. These actors (or at least their characters) will probably show up all over Star Wars media until the sun explodes.

I still remember being hyped up about the sequel trilogy. Sad to see they never really explored that further, much less even bothered to give him even some degree of respect as a character
Yeah his struggle pretty much ended with his escape with poe. Can't shoot random civilians but blasting down former comrades with a ship turret is fine... so much wasted potential
One of the most unique characters to come from that world. An ex stormtrooper paving a new path of redemption for himself... yet Rian Johnson or whoever shit on him by giving him a pointless side mission that hardly had a place in the last movie. Such a disappointment. I hope they redeem his character in the next one. And would be awesome if he is Force sensitive or something.
@@alphamad0216 Don't blame all on Johnson tho. Abrams fucked him in Force Awakens a good bit too. Abrams has nice ideas and is absolutely unable to dive in deep, he's a shallow screenwriter. Granted, Johnson is just the uninvited kid stealing the toys.
Even in The Force Awakens, he was slowly being written into the background to serve as Rey's sidekick. The original TFA script even killed Finn off entirely. The whole trilogy would have been SO much better if Finn had been the main character: a Stormtrooper becoming Force-sensitive and going on the run (possibly from one of the remaining fragments of the Empire, organically exploring the slowly-rebuilding/expanding Republic) to figure out what is happening to him? ShutUpAndTakeMyMoney.GIF I hope Boyega has a better experience with his future roles/endeavors.
I remember being so hyped about the Force Awakens thinking John Boyega was going to be the main character and potentially a relative of Mace Windu, only to discover that the path they took not only wrecked the movie but the ENTIRE trilogy. Yuck asf.
Finn was supposed to be one of the new main trio, but does his character honestly feel at the level of Luke, Han, Leia, Anakin, Padme, or Obi-Wan? No. They did not treat him like a man character and the entire trilogy suffers for it.
I will never forgive Disney for ruining finn. Easily one of the coolest characters in the universe and they dropped the ball so hard it bounced back up and they purposely let it fall back down
It does feel like they completely neglected him in episodes 8 and 9 and reduced him to a side character. A redeemed stormtrooper could've been such an interesting character but the lack of development of Finn's character somewhat makes you forget that he is that.
@@tyresehilton1593 he was supposed to be but they reduced his role because china didn’t want a black Jedi and many in china said they wouldn’t watch the film if he became one.

My favorite quote from John is “they could fly since the clone wars”. Goes to show how horrible the writers were.
Even then, we could see Boba Fett flying in the OG trilogy. It's not even a background thing, his jetpack is part of his costume and silhouette.
@@hyperion3145I’m guessing that the line was uttered since it was the first on-screen time where First Order troopers were seen fucking around in jetpacks - and these characters that utter the line weren’t even born when the clone wars was a thing (C3P0 being the sole exception)
But then again, Finn shouldn’t even be surprised since he was once part of the Order, and I’m certain a lot of in-between media like books and novels have shown the soldiers using jetpacks already
@ryon5174 that's how I took it as well, that it was the first time since the Empire that flying troopers were seen (which is odd in and of itself), but they could have worded it differently. Someone on a different video suggested something similar to the following:

The idea of Finn leading a storm trooper rebellion was one of the most exciting plots I heard and it’s such a massive waste of an opportunity.
@@liamdalemon1525 Damn! That would have been epic. Reminds me of Cap's speech in the Winter Soldier.

Maybe him getting his revenge on the first order leaders and perhaps him leading a rebellion. Instead we got basically nothing.

@@tragedyplustime8271 While I understand where you're coming from, he did not write any scenes. Imagine this for the trilogy:
Finn was a force sensitive storm trooper who rebels and becomes Luke's apprentice.
How can fans can up with better stories/character arcs than professional writers?

Remember when we will all hoped he would be side by side with Rey holding lightsabers? Yea, that was only a dream y’all.

I definitely agree, I think Kylo Ren had so much potential and Adam Driver was so good but the writing just got worse and worse.
It's a lot like how people got on Hayden Christensen's case for his portrayal of Anakin. I don’t understand the way people talk about these actors and these characters like we’ll never see them again. This is Star Wars we’re talking about.
