You really don’t necessarily need to remove to both drives if you don’t have 2 enclosures. Install everything on your legion then use this software to clone it to the new drive connected to it this way is also faster

i just upgraded my legion go by myself and i haven't done anything like this ever. so i was kinds scared of breaking someting. but i did it, thanks to this video. unfortunatly i did not find a 2242. but i did find a 2230. so i had to buy a extender for it aswell. but everything works. now to find out witch games i want to instal on it. ive been playing cyberpunk 2077 on it for the past week. and i love that it can play it. even though it is on low settings. but still. pretty awesome. as a truckdriver i am away from home alot. so i cant really play on my pc. this lenovo legion go is one of my best purchases i did. also, i live in the netherlands and we don't have any micro centers here. so i had to do it myself. also my to go tech company did not want to do it for me, even they said is was to risky.

Should've watched this all the way through, as you call out the fact that the first boot with the new SSD takes a while. I was doing it step with the video and thought I'd borked my legion go when I booted it up the first time - great tutorial though, really helpful, thanks.

Gives clear service and safety instructions for opening device and removing the SSD. 3.teaches you how to clone your disk without jumping any steps. 4.shows how to put back the device in tells you why you should use provided stickers. 5.shows the device working again. 6.shits on call of duty on goes out. 10/10 video it's a masterpiece.
LOL I made the EXACT same mistake @5:45. The first go around I had skipped through parts of the video thinking I knew better. When I put it all together I noticed my HDD space was only 512GB!! Couldn't move it, and didn't want to pay $50 to a third party to fix it... so I Had to reopen the case, take the drive out, and start all over!
Picked mine up today, and went with the 2 TB option since it was cheaper than getting the 512 and doing it myself . It's an amazing device, just a heads up to put the Software keyboard option in the taskbar for easier access to it.

@@aliceweiss6711 I don't have an Ally, so I really can't compare the 2. The Legion Go , I haven't had any problems with it as of yet. Check the reviews to decide which one fits best for you. If you're into D-I-Y you could buy the cheapest Steam Deck and do the 2TB SSD Upgrade , and replace the Sticks with Hall Effect Kit, and put Windows on it for about $100-$200 cheaper than either the Go or the Ally, and have comparable performance, but the SteamDeck is the least powerful of the 3
@@aliceweiss6711they have the same processor so the performance is literally almost the same. It’s just the screen resolution, size and frame rate are different. Also the legion go has a built in stand and removable controllers. Those are the few reasons why I went with the legion go. I wish I went with the 2TB though because man did I fill the 512gb so quick.
I just followed these steps and it was very easy, thanks for such a detailed video. I bought 2 USB-C enclosures to do the job and managed to clone the full 512GB SSD in 44 minutes. Including the clone, it took just over an hour to do it.
Its nice that they offer this and show how. But it feels a step backwards from the steam deck image download, and the rog auto cloud download for a new image.
@@Cemruto There is no room inside for a 2280 like the rog ally. The only way to fit a 2280 inside the legion go would be cutting a hole in the backplate basically destroying the device... if you're going to do that, just get an external SSD.
@@ViXoZuDo You might be correct, we'll have to see if someone comes up with something. It really depends on how much clearance there is between the back panel and the battery. If you could fit a right-angled m.2 extender, then in theory could fit a 2280. But we just don't know yet. Or maybe someone will start selling a backplate that is 2mm thicker and allows for the m.2 extension. We'll see. The reason we might want this over an external NVME, is because of a couple of reasons. 1-portability is better. 2-eGPU support would rely on the USB4 slot as it only has one.
I would LOVE a MicroCentwr near me in South Korea. It would do so well here. Possibly also consider international shipping. I was able to buy the upgraded legion go from you guys I would, and then have it shipped to South Korea.
I need urgent help :/. My friend did it for me we didn't clone. had to install windows on my usb and my friend done something to boot it upwith the usb plugged in that had windows from my pc on it. Then it worked after a while. But now the touch screen doesn't work? Also I had to redownload legion space. The touch screen isn't working at all :/ please help

this seems more painful than what it was for the Rog Ally.... is running games off a 1TB micro sd card a bad idea? Obviously they won't run as fast, but the sd card could be damaged by overheating too much
I am not close to Micro Center in Tustin, so I contacted Micro center through online chat and was informed that they would not build a 2 tb Legion Go and send it to me. I was informed even if I came into the shop in Tustin, they could not guarantee that they would build it.
I found a legit 2tb micro sd and i already bought the Legion go with 2tb ssd from micro Center so i have 4tb! And boy it's hella fast, I test it against my friends legion go 512 gb by conparing game loads and other things and boy what a difference.
@The0Advent you can also buy a 1tb SD card at Micro center and see if they will clone it to 2tb! I hear that is possible but wasn't aware of it before I bought my 2tb sd card.
Thanks for the Macrium tips, very helpful. You can do it with one USB drive though. I just connected my new drive directly to the legion go, installed macrium on there, and cloned it. Took 12 minutes.

This a huge issue when the rog ally just does everything through cloud recovery I have used it many times to fix issues they better release a recovery image very quickly or they will have major issues this cloning method isn’t good what if your original image is messed up cloning it will clone the issues
Cloud recovery is horrible 😢! What if the cloud is down and lose all your data? I never trust cloud recovery. If the cloning image is messed up, it can be recloned
I have a question about the micro SD cards. I did not experience this issue on my Steam Deck, but for some reason when installing games from Steam it takes a really long time to allocate space on the drive. I am using a fast 190mb micro sd card. I don't get it. Any thoughts?
Does anyone have the same problem? Mine suddenly turn off when playing game about 10 or 15 minutes but if I am using turbo fan speed. it's not suddenly turn off again
They will do it, but the charge s much higher. There is a breakdown of the fees on their website, around $150 just the labor. Maybe the local store can offer better pricing than the website.
@@KainOfNosgoth I got mine done and was charged about $300. $189 for the 2tb ssd and $100 for labor...they were going back and forth on if they were even still allowed to do it.

First of all thank you for the video and the explanation! Instead of selecting "shrink or extend to fill the target disk" option on the cloning proces, is it ok if I use the other option and create a new independent partition with the rest of the new space? I would like to have a partition independent from the OS to store data.

there is no space for a 2280 mod...
you can have a sidemounted spacer. which allows it to sit over the battery @@ViXoZuDo

Good tutorial. Alternatively you can get a few 1TB SD cards (A2) and you’ll be fine. You’ll have to keep switching but it’s a good workaround.

Or installed the cloning software directly on the Legion Go, it only took me 30 mins cloning the drive to a new 2TB M.2 in the USB C M.2 enclosure .
