    Those two watche's are insane!!! Love the way Omega assembled them to make them waterproof. Glad you have them and did a fantastic video on them. Being newer to the vintage world, I feel those are almost the holy grail of Omega.
    What great condition the dials are in and the cases for being 90 years old....
    Thanks for your time in doing this video, absolutely loved it.....

      You’re very welcome. The Marine is a holy grail watch to many Omega collectors. But the Marine Standard is a much better piece to own.

    My first vintage Omega watch was the Seamaster day/date followed by the Omega 55’ Constellation 18K gold

    Great video! I never really came across this watch casually in my watch travels. It always interested me peripherally- but not enough to seek it out as there is(were) so many great watches out there that vied for my attention. Love the script on the marine standards' dials. There's just something so elegant about those period dials. Thanks. I really appreciate this short informative video as it quite illuminating in that it increased my knowledge on a watch I knew very little about. Thanks.

      Thank you for the descriptive comment. I hope this video has opened up your eyes to other great options of the past. However, the Marine is more of a stored away collectible piece, whereas the Marine Standard is a collectible daily wearable piece.

    I did read somewhere that the first Rolex waterproof case was actually a Gruen patent that Rolex purchased,which makes some sense as both companies were supplied exclusively by the Aegler movement manufacturer at one point and owned shares in each others company for a while?

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  3 роки тому

      You maybe right about that. I know that Rolex and Gruen shared some of their movements and models.

    Every day is a school day! Thanks for sharing your watches. If i save up I might be able to afford a quartz marine chrono.

      @TimelessHistoryChannel  3 роки тому +1

      You’re welcome. I do not know much about vintage Quartz, but just make sure the Marine Chrono movement originally came with a 1.5v battery instead of the 1.3v mercury battery. Otherwise, using our modern day battery will not last very long

    love the seamaster model but not really interested in dive watches . my main interest is in a robust case and movement and something i can wear outdoors or around the ocean without the problem of water ingress . of course , a treasured vintage watch should not be exposed to water but its still nice to have WATERPROOF on the back of the case , even if the watch is no longer exactly waterproof .

      Stick to something from the 1950s onward. Tension ring crystal, gasket crown, and gasket case back.

    Love the video! I was always curious about the Marine, but didn’t know they had a re issue back in 2007. Could you also provide the improvement details that was on the re issue? Thanks!

    • @TimelessHistoryChannel
      @TimelessHistoryChannel  3 роки тому

      I never actually owned the re-issue myself so I would not know how it feels on hand. But from the photos it looks to be quite sturdy and with a better movement.

      After watching this video, I proceeded purchase a reissued version. It is very thick and heavy with a strap width of 22/18mm, the hand is well finished remaining me the vianney halter classic.

      Depending on what type of a collector or what sort of watches you’re looking for, any vintage watch can be considered as “collectible watches”. And if you’re in the market to own one you will learn how big the vintage watch market is and how people are buying them to wear on a daily basis. A lot of people whether they are collector or not, buy a vintage watch to wear. That’s the main purposes especially if you only have one watch. You’ll not going to buy it and store it away. Maybe that’s what you prefer to do which is by all mean your right and your personal preferences. But those I know will buy a vintage watch to wear them daily.

      @@TimelessHistoryChannel : i probably wouldnt buy a watch i didnt want to wear on a daily basis for fear of damaging or reducing its value . mind you , a favorite watch would probably not be on my wrist when im doing certain activities . i have plenty of sacrificial watches i can wear when i need a beater watch . i also have pocket watches that i carry as an alternative to wearing a good watch on wrist
